Personal Narrative- Becoming a Good Loser
During my childhood I learned a number of valuable and important lessons. Each as varied as the next. Several years ago, however, I was taught a lesson that forever altered my outlook on life.
I was seven years old and I’d already proven to my two sisters that I was a force to be reckoned with. In the mood for a little fun I decided to partake in a game of Candy land. The object of the game was to make it to Candy Castle before my two worthy opponents. The game lasted for less than an hour, but I would remember it for the rest of my life.
Under my mother’s almond surveillance we orchestrated the game with little, if any glitches. I was in the lead by five dusty, rainbow colored spaces and wallowing in my success. But then something stran...
To begin with, one lesson this short story taught me is that no matter how much we don 't want to admit it….
Failure isn’t always something you have control of or have the ability to predict. Failure seems to happen at the worst of times; however we need to accept it, because you cannot always win. My greatest failure would be tearing my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), my junior year in a lacrosse game, through no fault of my own in which my body physically failed me, but it truly changed my aspect of life in multiple ways.
Failure leads to disappointments but sometimes it can result in great lessons and successes. People can go through hard times, but if they stick it out and see it through, the failures and hard times can lead to success. This happened to me recently involving soccer. It was our second game of the high school season, and we were playing Northeastern. I had started the game and after the national anthem and the announcing of our names, the game whistle had blown, singling the start of the game. The first half went by slow it seemed to never end. With the end of the first half we were tied 0-0. The halftime talk was not very positive, understandably, considering we weren't playing well. Then the whistles blew again and we took the field to start
Launched by Jeff Bezos, the Amazon.com website started in 1995 and is today considered as one of the most prominent retail website on the internet with a record turnover of US$ 14.87 billion in 2007. Jeff Bezos’s intention was to create an internet based company with the most dedicated product portfolio on the internet where customers could find anything they might want. Amazon’s success is based on technology, services and products (Jens et al., 2003).
When I think about my past experiences of when I failed many scenarios come to mind. Us as humans beings are bound to fail at one point in life but its how you learn from them that makes it a fundamental. I came to a realization that all my past failures have played a huge role in my life, all of which have been either a lesson or an eye opener. The most vital scenario is when I failed to make the grade point average (GPA) required by my school to run track my first year entering high school. This event played a major role in my high school life.
Amazon is a company that is a tremendous help to students, parents, company’s, businesses and any other entity that would require their services. By the creativity of one man, he changed lives and the business market forever. Amazon is used for many purposes such as books, clothing, shoes, medicine, hardware, and just about anything else you could name. Before the analysis of the company, the history and management must be explained.
I would tell myself to be more competitive. Not with others, as I believe the best way to grow to be a more tolerant and knowledgeable person is by actively seeking out and working with peers, but instead to be more competitive with myself. I would tell myself to never be satisfied with my current limits and to find joy in striving to end each day as a better and more erudite person than I was when I woke up.
With very humble roots, Amazon.com grew itself from a tiny garage start up in 1994 into a multibillion dollar corporation in just twenty one years. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon transformed a modest book selling website into the largest online retailer of all products which survived a giant collapse in the economy and the dot com bubble, helping Amazon start its own agenda. Amazon was vastly different than many other dot com startups due to its realistic, long term, and growth focused agenda, which greatly differed from the unrealistic, quick online startups whom mostly disappeared during the decade. Amazon has been one of the frontrunners in the new digital world, by displaying a progressive business model that builds for growth, and creating a positive future for
Throughout life we come across many people, some who influence us in negative ways, and those who influence in good ways, often changing our complete outlook on life. For me, it took the struggle of one of my best friends to open my eyes. I only wish it wasn't too late to thank her.
The day started off normal I was at school and it was almost time for recess. 3rd grade recess we would literally be running around playing football whether it was tackle or just touch. We end up being released outside and as my friends got the football and started running around I went and stretched. Eventually I joined them and started playing and tackling people. Then I got the ball and was running and juking everyone out. At that moment I felt invincible until
When Amazon.com first began in 1995, as strictly a book retailer, Bezos knew he had discovered an excellent company. After all, a physical bookstore cannot stock anywhere close to the number of books Amazon can offer online. Within a year, the company had a customer base of approximately 340,000 consumers and daily site visits were huge as well. But Bezos wanted to expand the company to offer music and DVDs, because he realized there was little or no barrier of entry. In the next years Amazon would emerge as a marketplace, expanding the company globally offering products from toys to kitchenware. Because of the relatively cheap prices Amazon was offering and also the growing number of online shoppers, the company was doing tremendous amounts of sales and creating profits.
One of the main reasons motivation and morale tend to decrease during any type of change is because humans are naturally resistant to change (Resistance to Change). People often tend to find a comfort zone in their jobs or company and are uncomfortable when any change is made to it. People like the feeling of being safe and protected and change often does not let them feel this way. It forces people out of their comfort zone and requires them to look at things differently. It can appear in many forms in the workplace and may be public or private (Craemer, 2011). People also have a parochial self-interest and will resist change if they believe they stand to loose something if change takes place. They will focus on how the change affects them and not on the overall outcome (Ferguson, 2004). Managers and change agents need to understand that resistance to change is natural.
is a global company that offers internet retail shopping services. Amazon was an online book retailer established 21 years ago during the 1994s, and has grown exponentially in sales and size as the years have gone by. Jeffrey P. Bezos started it in July 1994 and has led to its success. It was possible because of the strategies Amazon used. Emerging of online banking on the internet gave rise to the idea of online shopping. Amazon positions itself as a low-cost retailer and offers a wide range of products and services via online which is unique in the internet retail business. Amazon competes healthily and preserves its competitive advantages as it constantly upgrades itself in the dynamic market. It also shows that Amazon can continue to grow and achieve it mission and vision of being "earth's most customer centric
Everyone in life experiences failure. It can affect people positively or negatively and that all depends on how they react to the experience. If one lets their failure overcome their dreams, it will lead them in the wrong path. But if one views their failures as a motive to succeed and grow, then they are on their way to becoming successful. For me, I let my failures in life help build onto my character and define the person I am today. My childhood injury is my example as I let this moment affect the outcome of my dreams I had then.
I WON THE GAME!!! No, not that game. The game of Life! No, not the colorful board game either. I won a game I did not even know I was playing. Born a girl in rural China, I laid flat on my back for eleven months in an orphanage. I was malnourished and learned to rock myself to sleep at night. In the end, I won the lottery and found myself in an American family.
