When I woke up the next morning, I realized that I was in Zaroff's comfortable bed. Where am I? Why am I here? I suddenly remembered. I had won. I was the first one to win the game. I had the island all to myself now, but what should I do? I spend the first few days, exploring the island all alone. It was beautiful, but also gave me goosebumps. That night, I thought, "I needed to leave this island as fast as possible. I need a plan. But how? The prisoners!" I decided that I would be departing this island along with the prisoners within the next two month. The next morning, I slowly sauntered down the stone, cold stairs to the dungeon. When I reached the towering, I shivered with fear. The black door at the bottom of the stairs, I carefully
That cheeky skeleton, you swear. Anyways, the two of you continued to progress with the journey. You sure hoped that the whole Underground wasn’t like this place. Sure, doing some silly “Junior Jumble” and running into all the interesting monsters were fun, not to mention hanging out with Sans. All of that was nice, but the cold, icy scenery...it gave you the chills. You couldn’t wait to find a home or maybe a fire.
How do you escape an island that doesn’t exist? In Lynne Matson’s novel Nil, most of the characters found themselves asking this question. As the novel progresses, the characters find themselves trying to escape numerous times from the island. With a 365 day limit, the battle for survival is overcome by compassion in this thrill seeking novel.
The island is the the place that they are all at. On page 11 they say, “We may stay here till we die.” They said this because they now very well that their chances of getting off this island are slim. This is important in the book because
But my very feelings changed to repulsion and terror when I saw the whole man slowly emerge from the window and begin to crawl down the castle wall over the dreadful abyss, face down with his cloak spreading out around him like great wings. At first I could not believe m...
At this point, I was determined to go back down, this had been the worst moment in my life. Somehow, all my friends had persuaded me to pursue and continued to go ahead of me. Once I had finally reached the top, the crater ,which I had thought to be beautiful, struck to be inundated land with tall grass. Disappointed and finding no point of this trip, I headed back down. The steep hills before me caused me to fall numerous times, and eventually a trip on a rock caused me to twist my ankle. I was in excruciating pain and was desperate to go home. However, home was far away. The volcano was on an island, and this island's only means of transportation was by boat. Steadily coming down the steep volcano, darkness started to come upon me. Looking in front of me, there were still two more hours to go. The only accompany I had were the sounds of insects, birds and my friends and guide that were barely able to be seen. Darkness filled my eyes with tears desperate for home. Finally reaching the base camp, I collapsed. My shoes were ready to be thrown into the garbage. Filled with mud and rips, it was impossible to wear again. Finally
...light arose, my eyes began to squint shut trying to block the sunlight drifting in. I failed and immediately woke up opening my red watery burning eyes. David ran through the rough edged sedimentary grey rocks and through the bright green leaves of the trees with an idea. “To get rescued we should make a large SOS sign with rocks so that the planes flying from above can see it” he said. I thought the idea was incredible, so we all came together placing rock after rock deeply in the wet sparkly sludge like sand. After a long hardworking 12 hours we were finally finished. As we waited anxiously day after day for rescue we finally received it. Fifteen days later a enormous smooth plane landed on the island. As the plane slowly lifted off the almond colored ground making a turbo noise, I felt that we all learned in any situation that we need to stick together to survive.
We will all work together”. We worked every night, sneaking out of our houses. We went over maps, old reports, and anything that could help us. Finally we formulated a plan. We were going to take a day tour to the island.
That made me feel lonely, anxious and scared. I started to explore the island to find any kind of human civilization. Questions were flashing by my brain as my feet continued to explore the Island. Where is this place? Are there any other survivors?
I sat up, and threw myself against the wall. I could hear pacing footsteps. I used my watch to shine light on all of the wall, and there was a door. The door was old, and didn’t have a knob. I pressed my ears against the door, as I took a deep breathe in and held it.
5-7. It was the quarter finals at the Mississippi State Championships for individual singles, and I had just lost the first set.
Large rats chased each other across the floor searching for food. This was no place for a queen. It was just past midnight and all was quiet except for the occasional movement of a chain. Through the heavy silence, a single set of footsteps echoed throughout the halls as someone climbed down the spiral steps into the dungeon.
In this Fall semester of 2017, I will have a higher chance of becoming more successfully than what I had not achieved in the previous spring semester this year. Due to the circumstances I had outside of school with revolving working and paying for my necessities, such as my school books, and my transportation fee for the MTA. Also my work schedule was very time consuming because it would take away my free time I had in the weekend to focus on my studies and assignments. From working 12 hour shifts on consecutive days, and to then have school the next morning at 8 a.m. Leaving me very fatigue not allowing me to perform at my best in the classroom. I had try to ask days off to give myself days to work on my assignments but no one was available
At the start of sixth grade, little ol’ I decided that it would be a magnificent idea, just the best idea I have ever came up with, to play the cello, still do not regret it yet. The only reason I wanted to play the cello, was my brother, he played the viola and was excellent at it. I always wanted to be like him, he is just a great person. I was going to play the same instrument, but he told me to play the cello, being little me I just agreed to everything he said. The one concern that I used to be always certain about when I started is that I would never like playing the cello or ever be at least acceptable, as I wanted to. It was the very first year of me learning how to even play it or what notes are, no matter how much I tired or played,
With urgency, I plunged back into the hole, and army crawled the way I had come. With more mastery, I swiftly exited the trap-door and rocketed out of the princess's room, turning right at the doorway. It was now darker than ever, no mute light filtering from underneath the doorways, I was practically blind. Feeling with my hands, I touched the cold stone walls and felt an opening. Walking through my foot rammed into a hard object--it was a stair step.
I slowly walked up the stairs and tried to be aware of what might happen but the crackling sound of each step i took totally took my attention away. As i arrived to front door i placed my ear against the prickling wood, i heard nothing. This house must’ve been like a hundred years old because the knocker on the door was one of those shoes you would place on a horse's foot. I knocked on the door with fear the size of Russia, i must’ve waited at least 20 minutes before i had the guts to open the bloody thing. After gaining the confidence i finally creeped through the front door, finding the place looking like a five star hotel.
