Taking care of a child was something I thought was not so hard. I knew it required meeting the child’s basic needs like feeding, clothing, and attention. But after having my son in January of 2018, I had acknowledged it took more of those things I had listed. It took love, dedication and time to make sure that a child has the foundation of being mental, emotionally, and socially stable. Even though , I had previously worked with children in the past, it was hard to understand why children behave the way they are in any interactions with people. I had first had my experience with children when I was ten, I would babysit my four younger siblings. Later, I started babysitting for family friends and neighbors. During my elementary years, I
My first observation was at Head Start. I talked to Tracey Claflin about some of the principles they use in their program and how they use them. I wasn’t able to observe the children directly because my TB skin test results came up positive. Tracey explained to me that because my results were positive I couldn’t meet children or be in the same room as the children. Due to this, I had to make some arrangements to instead speak with Tracey about some principles she has seen and that they follow. I met with her for an hour discussing the principles and how they were used in the Head Start program. One of the principles she said was highly important for Head Start was principle number 2. She explained that when there is enough time and opportunities to spend time with a child individually the caregiver puts full attention on one child. She explained that they like to focus attention on a child throughout the day so that the child doesn’t feel left out. She says that alone time for a child with a caregiver is usually tummy time. They allow the infants and toddlers to roll around and look at the carpet designs. Tracey explained to me how they asses each child through this quality time that the caregiver and the child have alone. This quality time the caregiver has with the child is important,
Bringing a child into the world can be a very exciting moment, filled with lots of emotion. However, raising that child will come with many responsibilities and decision making. It can be stressful as parents go through the ups and downs of raising a child, but it can also be a memorable experience as we watch our child go through various stages of development. I thought that being a parent would come with its obstacles, but that it would be an exciting experience to raise a child to adulthood. Every child has a temperament and certain characteristics that we as parents, have to adapt to. My Virtual Child, Jill, at first, was difficult to soothe down when upset, mostly cautious and shy when around new people, and has a secure attachment (My Virtual Child). Raising Jill, I had to make several adjustments due to my personal relationship with my spouse and the economy always changing. This had an effect on Jill’s development, but I always did what I felt was best for her. Jill was a quick learner at a young age; she scored above average or average for skills such as gross motor,
It discusses how children are born with that needs to connect with individuals around them. Teachers and providers create positive relationship with children from birth through the early years. The foundation for that healthy social and emotional development because it affects her children see the world, express themselves, manages their emotions, in establishing a positive relationship with others. There were several areas of development that included social interactions that focus on the relationship that we share and include relationship with adults and peers. Emotional awareness recognized and understands your feelings and actions of other people, and self-regulation where you have that ability to express your thoughts, feelings, and behavior in a socially appropriate way. There were many tips that were listed when working with infants from talking and reading, having that warm, responsive, and consistent care, maintaining predictable routines, and getting to know each child while following their lead. The importance of supporting children and developing social skills is critical for learning, happiness, and long-term. This development begins during infancy and can be supported through simple social games, emotional role model, and imitating an infant's facial expression and sounds. The importance of social-emotional development and toddlers makes an impact in a child life when these skills are developed starting in infancy. Encouraging positive behaviors and using positive discipline practices that helped to develop the ability to make good choices as well as recognizing the confidence that is built when these behaviors are repeated. This is a process for young children to learn these behaviors always remembering that a patient response will help especially when the behaviors are
I have had the luck of being the oldest of my mothers’ seven children, and the pleasure of having three of my own, and one step-son. I’ve spent a lot of time changing diapers, wiping noses, and kissing ouchies. I’ve carried babies on my hip that I’ve seen off to kindergarten, helped dressed for the first school dance, attended their graduation, and even been there when they have had their first baby. I have spent a lot of time analyzing their behavior, moods, or lack thereof. I’ve concluded that there are 4 types of children, I have been blessed with one of each. The 4 different types are: The Superstar, The Kool Kat, The Lil’ Mama or Little Man (depending on the sex of the child), and The Rebel.
My heart was beating and my hands were sweating. My teacher asked me a question and I wanted to cry. I didn’t know how to say my response in English and was afraid of the other kids making fun of me because I thought my accent was too strong. All the students stared. “Just answer the question” one girl murmured. Every day I’d sit in the same seat without talking. And even though I had spent a month in the same classroom I felt uncomfortable being there. I moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic when I was twelve. I knew the word for “mariposa” was “butterfly,” and I knew how to introduce myself, but that was about all. Some people would even become frustrated due to the fact they couldn’t understand me, or the other way around. Knowing how they felt about me not being able to communicate made me want to shut myself off from them.
When you think of the typical 6 year old little girl you probably think of an energetic, fun-loving, care-free child. I was all of that and more right up to the moment that a single spot on my right knee, to the right of center on my knee cap, stopped me dead in my tracks and left me scared for my life. At around the age of 6 I was having fun with my best friend and neighbor while spending spring break at my aunts beach house down in Panama City, Florida. I can remember the moment like it was yesterday. I was standing in the living room ready to go out and swim in the pool because I loved, and still love, swimming, and also because it was night and I loved how the pool lights made the whole backyard glow. The only thing holding me back from jumping in the pool was an extreme pain in my knee accompanied with a bump that I had not noticed before.
Unfortunately, not all memorable events are pleasant. Although most people immediately think of a positive experience when asked, "What is your most memorable event?" The typical responses are happy thoughts, however; that is not the case at hand. By definition, bittersweet means both pleasant and painful; two emotions: sadness and happiness, endured at the same time. Hell with a silver lining describes it just as well, I believe.
I first learned how to drive when I was fifteen years old. I am now twenty-one years old and extremely grateful to have the privilege of driving my own vehicle. My experiences of learning how to drive were quite easy, but challenging at the same time. I first got behind the wheel of my father’s Chevy Silverado pickup truck parked on the curb of our neighborhood, with my father in the passenger side. As I buckled up my seat belt, my palms sweating and my heart racing because I was so nervous yet excited to finally get the chance to learn how to drive. It was time to put the vehicle on D-drive, when I pressed on the gas a little too much so the truck wanted to take off, but my father had yelled, “wait!” and I had slammed on the brakes. “Yikes”
This weekend my mom, me, Ann, and Ann's boys are going to minnesota's largest candy store. I can not wait to go because we get so much candy and drinks there. We go there every year and always end up spending more money than we did last year. We also went to the Granite City Speedway it is a dirt track it is so much fun. I always help out there I work on the cars and even get food for the guys. I love to work there even if I do not get payed it is still fun. I work with a racer named Shane Sabraski. We know him because he use to work with my grandpa. We proceed to go to almost every race of his. Shane almost won 12,000 dollars for a big race he was in. Sadly in the last lap the race car behind him passed him, so he only got 5,000 dollars.
I have been deceived many times personally, academically, and professionally, unfortunately. About a month ago, I hit a curb while driving to work. After hitting the curb my car began making a seriously bad sound and shake as I increased speed. My fiancé and I, neither one of us car mechanics, decided to take my car to a local shop and get a full body checkup to determine what maintenance was required to fix the sound and shakiness. Afterwards, we were told my car needed roughly $2,500 of work to “hopefully” fix the problem. Knowing we didn’t have $2,500, we decided to have a friend look at it. In the end, I had a dented rim, about a $60 fix. Although it was good to see what maintenance things we needed to improve the quality of my car,
It is surprising, but true that motivation for people comes from money, power, and fame. Not quite for me, I was motivated by my loving grandmother. She instilled in me to “Stay Gold”, work hard and be honest always. When you combine those together you can’t put a limit on what you’ll be able to do in life.
Excited. Nervous. Determined. Those three words perfectly describe how I was feeling my first day of college. The enrollment process was rigorous for me, but with the encouragement and support from my boyfriend, I was able to finish submitting the required paperwork by the school's deadline. After all of that was over with, I could finally begin a whole new chapter of my life that I had never visioned for myself. None of my family members have attended college, I was going to be the first one. This means, I was showing up for my first class completely mentally unprepared. I was unaware of what to expect for my first semester at Ocean County College.
Growing up we always have someone in our life who looks after us until we reach an age when we need less supervision. This person is also someone who we often enough look to in stressful times. For me this person is my dad. My dad and I do not always see eye to eye but we have a strong relationship that we can fall back on. The relationship has been tested at times. Things that are tested in it are disagreements, changes in view, or when I do something he thinks isn’t right. One time my dad and I took a fishing trip to Baucus Minnesota. Over this trip we had many fun times. One day we were on the boat and it was midafternoon the fish weren’t biting like they were earlier that morning. My dad wanted to leave. But I wanted to stay and fish a little while longer. He said “what’s the point of fishing if the fish aren’t biting” I responded with “what would we be doing if we were not fishing right now. I finally gave in and we got off the lake and then went to a nice restaurant and at the end of it my dad was right and we had a good day.
I spent my sixteenth birthday paralyzed, wondering if I would have to crawl to the bathroom.
When I was younger, I firmly believe that if someone was smiling they were happy. At this time I was around the age six. I held this belief because I was always around people who seemed happy. There was always laughter, smiles, and hugs. T.V. shows that I watch were filled with smiling faces and laughing groups of people joking around with each other. The people in my life were always so positive around me. But as I got older I grew a better understanding of what was going on.
