Nationwide, approximately 50 percent of all children will be bitten by a dog before they reach the age of twelve (DeIorio, “Have a Dog-Bite-Free Summer”). In Marion County, Florida, aggressive and dangerous breads of dogs are a “serious issue” for the community according to Marion County Commissioner Jim Payton (Thompson, “County drops '1 free kill'”). Responsible dog owners seem to be unaware of the problem but area residents who have been victims of these attacks have turned to the Marion County Board of Commissioners for help. The local County Commissioners have been wrestling with this issue since October of 2009 when a widow from Ocklawaha, Patricia McBee, had three of her dogs euthanized after they allegedly killed her neighbor’s cat (Thompson, “County drops ‘1 free kill’”). The need for change moved even faster after a 3-year-old little girl was attacked and killed by a dog that was chained to a tree outside her house in Citra (Lee, “Girl, 3, mauled”).

For owning a dog that wasn’t registered or not obeying with the rules once it is registered by keeping it on a leash and muzzled when in public as well as in a car resulted in the dog being destroyed. There were no other options that were available to the courts. The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 is the greatest proof that the principles of democracy and justice have been unashamedly ignored. Parents and children were left in tears with their dogs being taken away from them for months and kept in kennels in secret locations.

Previous to moving his dogs to the Pet Bath House, the owner of the dogs boarded them at a facility in Valley Springs where they stayed for 18 months. According to police, he visited the dogs on a regular basis, but in Mid-June, he was advised that the dogs were showing signs of “kennel stress” and would have to be moved.
A few days ago, while walking my dog, I decided to run with him but with the leash in my hand, so that way he could be free to stop and sniff wherever he wanted. This experience was very good for the dog because he was not tied to the limits that I provided, but he was always by my side running. A couple of minutes after being “free” a policeman showed up. To my surprise he was upset with me and said that having a dog without control was a big misdemeanor. Then, he proceed to take my information and gave me a citation to the Municipal Court of The Colony, while my dog was still trying to sniff around, like nothing different was happening. Afterwards, I looked for places or parks that were dog-friendly in order to take my dog, and that wa...
None of our concerns for their health and well being were taken into consideration. Photos with text about their drinking habits were not looked at and the text about the big dog hard to handle and photo of Montano black eye she got from the dog shows how powerful it is. With her health problems she would not be able to keep them safe from harm. When having to tell the children they were going to have to go with Montano they all said No. Our oldest son got very concern about the big dog. An hour later he began to vomit, no fever. He got so nervous and upset about it.
On February 21, my mom’s friend Julie told my family that her dog Jayden had 8 puppies. Julie knew my dad liked Pit bulls and asked if we would be interested in looking at the puppies. So my parents thought about it for a week or so because the puppies were too young to take home at that moment. When the puppies were 8 weeks old my family had decided that we would love to have one of the puppies. There were 2 puppies that looked exactly the same. We chose one of the females and brought her home over Spring Break.
On 08/03/17, at approximately 2:54pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian with Franklin County Animal Care and Control (FCACC) was dispatched to 38 S Wheatland Ave on an injury-possible dangerous or vicious dog. I arrived at the location and saw a small terrier mix (black/brown) loose on the front porch of that location. I approached the location. I slowly approached the front porch, where I placed a leash on the small terrier mix. I knocked on the door. Caller Lisa Vanskle came outside and I asked if this was the dog that bite someone. She stated it was. I advised her that I would return after I placed the small terrier mix in my vehicle. I returned to the above location and spoke to Ms. Vanskle and her son (victim) Travis Vanskle. I asked
While on patrol Eastbound on Northeast 50th Street from Northeast 10th avenue, I was dispatched to a traffic complaint/hazard coming West from near the Sedgwick County line. The vehicle in question was driving East on US Highway 54 without any lights on the back half of the vehicle. Dispatch relayed to me that the vehicle only had operable headlights. After I made my way to NE 40th Avenue and traveled South, I approached the on-ramp to US Highway 54.
This weekend we had let them go outside to let their curiosity genes explore. However, once they went back and forth between our house and outside many times, they had stayed outside to the point where we had lost them. At first my family had thought the cats had went downstairs, but when it had reached the time where the sun went, we couldn't find them anywhere around the house. My brothers, dad, and I scavenged everywhere outside to find them, but we ended up unlucky. I'm the type of person who doesn't think brightly of the idea of change, so the thought of never seeing my cats again brought my eyes to tears. Then, PumkinHead was spotted by the backyard porch, looking for away back instead our cozy home. My dad then ran to the door to let
As a kid, I fell in love with the idea of getting a puppy for Christmas. Wrapped in a small box with a bow on top sitting under the tree just like the movies and tv shows I had seen. I can remember making a Christmas list of all the things I wanted that year, and every year the same thing that I wanted had said “puppy” with it underlined so that my mother knew which was my favorite on the list. Every year no surprise, I didn’t find a dog. I never understood why I never received one. When the kids at school talked about the few dogs they had at home made me so jealous, but I hoped that one day it would be me to have my own best friend at home.
"Honey," my mom yelled to me one sunny afternoon, "Go out and feed Sugar." Sugar was our dog, a big, husky lap dog. I went to our kitchen, and got some food. Then I stepped outside, into the warm, fresh August air, looking for Sugar. I glanced to where I kept Sugar, and couldn't believe my eyes. Sugar was not there. I ran to the place where Sugar slept, I saw that the leash was elegantly coiled up. I knew that Sugar could not have run away. I thought that she must have chased a deer or another animal. Then a disturbing thought hit me, Sugar might have been abducted. As I tried to push that thought out of my mind, I thought that my mom could have put Sugar out in the garage. I went to the garage to check, but unfortunately Sugar wasn?t there. ?Mom,? I cried after a couple of seconds, ?Do you know where Sugar is??
