My close friend was going on a trip to California to get his senior pictures taken. He asked me to go and of course I said yes. The flight took off in Grand Rapids and landed in Texas. We got onto a different plane there and we were on our way to Cali. The first night we were there it was really late, so we just went to bed. The next day we walked down to the kitchen and were introduced to everyone in the house. Another family that I didn’t know about and I met them. The oldest was Turner, who became a really good friend after this adventure, and Carmen who was younger. The house we stayed in was in an extremely nice neighborhood, and had a lot of bedrooms and bathrooms. With 3 stories, a big front yard, a backyard pool, and a hot tub, it …show more content…
was safe to say this house has it all. Me and my friend that I flew in with stayed in the downstairs bedroom, while the rest of the people slept upstairs. One night everyone was hanging around outside by the pool and the hot tub and i’m not sure how it happened, but all the kids went to the top floor and took turns jumping off the balcony into the pool. It was a really fun experience and I think it helped us all bond together. The next day we made a plan to go to the beach and learn how to surfboard. Everyone hopped into the big van bus with 4th row seats, and awaited our arrival. Myself never coming in contact with the ocean or a surfboard was a bit sceptical at first. “I don’t know if i’m gunna be able to do this.” I thought to myself. But I don’t want to look like a goof, so I go ahead and follow the group into the water. One girl there was really good at this kind of stuff, so she basically taught us all how to do it. The waves weren’t that big, so we couldn’t get going very far or fast, but it was enough to stand up on the board and feel like you’re doing it. It took a few tries and a few wipeouts. But after a while, I could finally do it. My favorite part of the squad trip to the beach was that the beach and the town around it was really cool looking and it was cool to just walk around and see the different views. We stayed late enough to see the sunset, and it was a lot different seeing it set over the ocean. The time we went to Hollywood was also filled with a ton of different and unique views as well. The day started off like any other, we woke up, ate breakfast as a big happy family, and lounged around the house for a while.
We we’re on the subject of Hollywood movies, and one of the parents suggested that we go see what’s up in Hollywood. Once again we piled into the van and headed for the highway for a long trip to Hollywood. We arrived and parked the van by the big mall in the center of the area we were in. We began walking down the Hollywood walk of fame. which is the street with all the famous people’s names inside a star on each individual section of the sidewalk. which was cool, and then after that we went and browsed around some stores that were selling basically anything you would need for really cheap prices. One of the stores had a lot of Longboards for sale and Turner was considering buying one, which he did end up doing. And when I told him I was unsure about buying one, he said: “Buy a Longboard or i’ll beat you up.” Which was good enough convincing for me, so I purchased it. We headed for the huge outdoor and indoor mall. we went up a few levels to about the top to a gigantic chocolate store. They had all sorts of candy and toys, and best of all. Fudge. We got to try a ton of free samples to see which flavor we liked the best, then we got a piece of it for the road. Right outside of that store was a huge glass bridge that on one side, looked over the city which looked really nice, and on the other side was the Hollywood sign in the distance. spot for a lot of cool pictures and views. It was a really fun experience with many cool views, but not as cool as the senior pictures. The senior pictures were taken at Laguna Beach, which is also where he got his baby pictures taken.
So it had a pretty big significance. I can’t even begin to describe what the setting looked like for the pictures. There was a really nice resort on the beach with green grass that turned right into ocean front sand. There were green bushes and tall trees in the background, we took a few pictures in that area some with just himself, and others with people joining him. Then we headed down the staircase to the beach. A little ways out there were these large rocks that you could walk out onto and some on the beach as well. In one of his baby pictures he was sitting on one of the rocks looking out into the ocean, so we looked for that exact rock and recreated the picture of him now. It turned out really good and overall the trip was a huge success. Over the course of the trip to Cali, it really opened my eyes to the world outside of Michigan because I have only been out of state a handful of times, and most of them weren’t to such a breathtaking place like California. I can truly say that traveling to a different place has really made me think about my future and made me understand that traveling is good for you and can open your eyes to different parts of the
world.
Have you ever looked off a gigantic cliff? Now imagine traveling 30 miles per hour on a bike with curvy roads with enormous cliffs on your side with no rails. This is exactly what I did with my family when we went to Colorado. From the hotel we drove to a bike tour place to take us to the summit of Pikes Peak. After we arrived at the building we saw pictures of how massive the cliffs were, but what terrified me was the fact they had no side rails. This observation was thrilling as well as terrifying. It was an odd mix of emotions, but I loved the adrenaline rush it gave me. My dad whispered to me, “ This will be absolutely horrifying”.
In 2009, my parents and I decided to travel to San Antonio, Texas for vacation. My parents and I have traveled there before, but we enjoyed it so much that we decided to go back. With many places to see and do; my parents thought that we should go to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It was at this theme park, where something happened that I would never forget.
As my father and I finally fit the statue of the little Virgin Mary in the back of the car, it was time to get on the road. I could already taste the guavas from my great grandfather’s ranch. Feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. The smell of my aunt’s cooking. Hearing the excitement of my great grandmother’s voice. I wanted to be there already, be in the beautiful country of Mexico. My thoughts wandered as we left my house. How much welcome, love, and the sadness of leaving was going to happen. It was too soon to find out.
I wonder if I should I start calling Las Vegas, Nevada home now. I’ve traveled back and forth from California to Las Vegas since I was a child. I can remember at the age of thirteen my family and I would take family weekend trips very often. By the age of seventeen I was forced to move to Vegas for 6 months right before my senior year of high school started. Since it was my last year of high school my parents decided to let me go back to California for the last three months and graduate with my friends. Since I wasn’t eighteen yet, I forced to go back to Las Vegas right the day after graduation.
Because of some of the circumstances that make me who I am, it is hard to say I have any one definitive home. Instead, I have had two true homes, ever since I was a young child. What makes this even more of a conundrum is that my homes have always had little in common, even though they are only a few hundred miles apart. Between the big city of Houston, Texas, and the small town of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, I have grown up in two very different towns that relate to one another only in the sense that they have both raised me.
I wake up to the sun shining through the window and the faint laughter from my family downstairs. It's the first day of our annual trip to Rhode Island. I lie in bed for a few moments and think about one thing. Rhode Island. I wouldn’t rather be anywhere else than here. I glance at the clock and it is only eight in the morning, but everybody is already up, enjoying breakfast, and getting ready to head to the beach. It's not supposed to rain until later in the day, so hopefully we can enjoy our day at the beach before it rains. I eventually make my way out of bed and tiptoe across the frigid wood floors and join my family downstairs. Everybody is up except my brother, Thomas.
We started our travels down in Columbus Ohio. The week leading up to the big move we spent at Deer Creek State park, for a family reunion, where my dad and step mom, had the chance to see everyone again, before the journey began. Over all we had taken nine days to get to our destination. First stop, Saint Louis, Missouri, we stopped to see the Gateway Arch. It was a lot bigger than I thought it would be, so of course I was pretty amazed. The first few days were our longest driving days, but sense we broke up the days, our longest day was eight hours. The second day was the worst, Oklahoma is so boring to drive through, and nothing but flat crop farms, and wind turbines everywhere you look. We drove till we got about seventy five miles from the boarder of New Mexico, And Oklahoma. We got up early and began a shorter dive to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where we went to Petroglyph National Monument, yeah it was interesting, but after you see a few hundred, they all start to look the same. The next morning we took a beautiful hike and took many pictures to capture the moment. Other than getting there, my favorite part of the trip, was Arizona, where we stayed four days in Flagstaff, one day in Holbrook, and one day in Phoenix. I wouldn’t mind if I lived in Arizona, it’s a very beautiful state. My family and I stopped by the Petrified Forest National Park, and I
During that time I went to go visit family in Reno, but For what I think it was a good experience visiting my relatives Who I’ve never even met yet. We went to go to nevada in the early morning, it was a tiring trip but we made it all the way but with a couple stops on the way, but we made there. The relatives I’ve met were my Uncles, Aunties, and couple of cousins I’ve never met But my mom were happy to meet again in such a long time we’ve never seen them.
When I was seventeen years old and going into my senior year of high school I was given the opportunity to go on a trip to Spain with my school. It was a two week trip during the summer, visiting different cities and historical sites throughout the country. While we where there we went to see a Flamenco dance show in Seville which is about an hour and a half outside of Madrid, the city where we were staying. It was a Wednesday around one o’clock when we left and the ride up there was really beautiful. We were driving through the country side passing some small villages on the side of the road. We arrived there around 3:30 and sat down for the show. It was really cool they had all the ladies with their bright dresses and fruit in their hair dance around while we ate lunch. And the show ended around five and we started to head home. On the way home we were driving through the countryside along side a small village when all of a sudden we heard a loud bang and the bus started slowing down. After a couple of ...
“What should I do? Maybe if I tell them I really don’t want to move to California they’ll change their minds? Maybe it’s too late to change minds since we're already here? Why did we have to move so far?” All these thoughts were popping through my head as I stepped onto the plane, “We’re we really doing this? Were we moving to California?” I keep on thinking about all these things. “What was gonna happen tomorrow at school?” My thoughts were like a highway. The cars were each of my thoughts and the cars were zooming by me over and over again. All I think about is what lies ahead. Tomorrow was my first day at school and I felt like I was gonna puke.
Dad tried to give the guard twenty dollars, but he refused. Dad shook his hand and thanked him several times. I could go on and on about the rest of our trip but it would take another twenty pages. Unfortunately this was not the last outburst my father had at Disney World. I can tell you one more thing. Through the chaos Dad finally made it to It’s a Small World with his family. It was the biggest smile he showed through the whole trip, but it wasn’t his last. We have been to Disney World twice since then. We still always ride It’s a Small World and I always bring cotton balls for my ears. The cotton keeps my arms from getting tired.
There are two main states that I would like to include on my map, California and Texas. These two places mean a lot to me in many ways. Texas is a place where I spend most my summers and other vacations at. I don't visit there regularly just because, I visit because I have most of my family from both my mom’s and dad's side. That is why I decided to put a quote about family instead of drawing out my whole family. Around it I drew a picture of the famous Texas star which lays on a mountain and looks really nice at night. In the top right corner I drew a picture of UTEP which stands for University of Texas in El Paso which is the university I wish to attend.
Four bedrooms, five baths, a full kitchen and huge living room, this used to be what I called home. Eighteen years later however, home has become a twelve by ten foot college dorm room. What was once a huge house has become a one bedroom dorm which also doubles as a living room and kitchen area. In comparing these two homes there is more then meets the eye. Obviously living conditions change, however with careful preparation you can still keep that “home” feeling.
We met with many cousins and relatives. They came to visit us. It was exciting for me because, we haven't seen them a long time. They have been stayed here about sixteen years. When I was child they came to the United States.
The world is full of wonders and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, that we take advantage of. Traveling is the ultimate education and it never fails as a teacher. It teaches you things no class can about the world and yourself. Seeing a historical spot and being in the environment it is in teaches you what no text book can. Most people hear about what is happening in the world through the bias not understanding media. However, if you are a traveler the real world influences you in a way the media will never be able to. We understand how the world works with its many cultures and lifestyles. Being a part of and experiencing different cultures broadens your views of the world and changing’s what you think of the world. Having expanded knowledge and understanding about culture is not the only thing travelers have. Finding your true self and learning about who you are is the best thing about being a traveler. There is no better way to find yourself because when you travel you open yourself up to millions of opportunities. Without travel you may be completely unaware of your true persona. Your limits are tested and you are completely out of your comfort zone when traveling. Getting out of the comfort zone helps you grow as a person and see your potential. I have experienced many different cultures that have personally changed myself and my outlook of the world. Traveling has given me the greatest education I know more about the world, cultures, and myself. Being a traveler is a huge blessing in my life I am so glad I am able to travel and see the world. Nothing can take away the memories that traveling and being a traveler has brought me. Get out there and see this beautiful world for yourself and become a traveler, you will not regret
