I turned the car off and tossed the keys in the cup holder beside me. I jumped out of the car, and all it took was two beeps the locks slid down faster than I could realize that the car was now unaccessible. The key sat in the cup holder sparkling from the mid-day sunlight. Unfortunately, the keys were not the only thing locked inside the boiling car. This past summer, I went to Lake Martin with a family I regularly nanny for. With four kids all under the age of 8 and a baby on board, I always had my hands full. I was taking Bess, the baby, back to the cabin for her nap while the mom stayed at the pool with the other three kids. To avoid the hassle of moving the car seat from her car to mine, she gave me her keys, and I drove her car back. …show more content…
The second I didn’t have the air conditioning on full blast, sweat would drip from my forehead. When we got to the cabin, I turned the car off and placed the keys in the cup holder beside me. I shut my door and proceeded to the baby’s door, and two steps later I hear “beep beep.” The tahoe’s locks slid into place. My heart sank. It didn’t take long to put the pieces together that the keys and the baby were both locked into a suffocating car. I immediately called the mom, and she did not answer. I tried the dad, but he did not pick up either. I left them both messages, but I knew I didn’t have much time to wait. I ran inside, not knowing what to look for or where to look, but I came across a knife and a coat hanger. I had watched shows and figured if a criminal can pick a lock, why can’t I? However, it isn’t as easy as they make it look. Frustrated with myself, I screamed to the neighbors for help. Evidently I was hard to understand- one because I was crying, and two because they were about 300 feet away. Once I got the message across, I saw them hustling to come help me. I constantly was checking on the baby putting my face up to the glass. She remained conscious, free from many tears. About 10 minutes had
On a cold and rainy day of October in 2013, my mom and I were on our way to shop for Halloween. On our way to the store, we saw this bitter, fragile, and brisk homeless man in front of the store. In the store my mom bought a new sweater and told me ,“Go outside and give that man this sweater.” When i gave him the sweater, my mom walked out and said “may god bless you.” This made me realize how nice and generous our parents are.
...e from the Angel Tree through the Salvation Army and provide Christmas for a needy child. She would say “I can’t think of a thing that I really need.” All of us were in agreement and enjoyed the experience and fulfillment of making sure a child was not forgotten on Christmas.
I had just gotten off a plane to visit my grandmother in Florida and an elderly woman had been a passenger on the same plane. In this specific airport, there are small subway trains that take the passengers to the baggage area. All seats had been filled by the time this woman made it to the subway train. She looked around and found that no seats were available, but a young man behind her stood up and offered his seat to her. She gave the young man a big smile and thanked him for such a nice act of kindness. The fact that he was willing to stand so this woman could sit down was very polite and not only made the woman happy, but I had a smile on my face,
“Sit down” the cop said to my father, as my father sat down on the curb of the street. People surrounding the seen trying to figure out ( why?, who?, when?). I told myself this wasn’t happening that this was all dream, when i walked out to see my dad in handcuffs. I was really worried on what was about to happen but, more so my mom she was tearing
I am an undocumented student at UC Davis. When I am asked a simple question such as, "describe your personal experiences", I ask myself: Where do I begin?
About 3 months ago I was sitting in my car thinking why am I here and how did I get here. I was all the way in Lake Charles, LA, about 6 hours from home. Earlier that day I had gotten so upset with everyone I got in the car and just started driving. I'm not one to let my emotions get to me or others but this had built up to the point where I was feeling tears rolling down my face uncontrollably and plunging down to my phone in my lap, I was having a breakdown. I pulled off the highway to get gas at this old dingy gas station where I saw two sheriffs searching this women's car. I dried my tears got out and tried to pay for my gas but the pump wasn’t reading my card and it started to irritate me. One of the sheriffs standing by the car noticed
Some people like to stay in control of their life and avoid any amount of extraordinary risk to protect their self-disclosure. Other people don’t shy away from challenges as they are confident that certain obstacles are nothing more than just another thing standing in their way from living life to the fullest extent. Through personal experience, I’ve realized that personal comfort is nothing more than a variety of fears that limit me from challenging myself.
I wanted to get a PS4 for Christmas but instead I just got money. However, I got almost enough money to buy one. I was only short by $20. Luckily, my brother offered me $20 to buy it. This moment is a moment I will always cherish because of the fact that he helped me instead of me helping him.
Someone just broke into Jake's home. He is on a business trip for his job, and his wife and two kids are at home asleep. The intruders, one armed with an AR-15 assault rifle, and the other with a handgun enter the home. Jake's wife hears the door get kicked in, runs to get the kids and goes to the closet. She dials 911, cops are on the way, but the two men are already in the bedroom, the only thing between Jake's family and two armed men is a thin door. The 8-month old baby screams, alerting the two intruders. The man with the handgun, startled to hear someone home, kicks down the closet door, revealing his helpless wife and kids. The Wife covers up the kids and sits in front of them, hoping to protect them from any harm. The man with the
How often is it that we are late for work or school because we could not find our keys? On how many occasions have we humans been locked out of our dorms or houses and yet have our keys remain warm and cozy inside?
An older lady sat next to me and noticed how jittery I was so she decided to switch seats with me. I had games to play and all kinds of snacks to eat yet I still focused on the plane ride instead of the bigger picture, which was I was going to be able to see my mom and I hadn't saw her in maybe two weeks. The lady that sat next to me was very pleasant, she played all of my games and even some of her games with me. She did everything that she could to ease my worries. She gave me gum because my ears were popping as the plane flew higher and higher into the sky.
I am by myself wearing my blue jeans and an old flannel shirt. It is cool outside but I decided to leave my gloves at home, feeling comfortable with my warm shirt and my sturdy boots.
As a child, the event that I remember most was an evening at the park with my siblings and dad. Although my dad spent numerous days and nights working, he would always find a way to fit in time to spend with his kids. It was a lovely spring evening in Cathedral City when my siblings and I wanted to go to the nearby Panorama Park. My dad didn’t hesitate and the next thing I remember was packing our new bikes into the trunk of his truck. We quickly rushed over as the sun was setting and as soon as we arrived it was nowhere to be seen but we were determined to play for as long as possible. Before we left, we begged my dad to play one round of hide-and-go-seek in the unlit park and soon enough we were running around like chickens without their heads. Many rounds passed and my dad found each of us every time until he could no longer catch his own breath. As children, most of us don’t want the newest toy or the shiniest jewelry but instead memories like these that will forever stay with us. Not only have events like these brought me joy, but people do as well. About two years ago, I started my first job as a host for a Mexican Restaurant named Pueblo Viejo Grill in Palm Desert. This first job experience made me appreciate people and realized how much joy they bring into my life. Of course, as an employee of a restaurant, there will be those customers that make it their hobby to complain as much as they can just because
I have encountered the quote,” Easy Does It, Sun” in my life. for example, I was in the Woodland summer camp in 4th grade and they were holding an egg drop in competition. I imprudently forgot to work on it beforehand. Therefore, I woke up really early the day it was due to start my project because I really wanted to win the competition. My mind was racing with many ideas I was putting together in my brain. As I ran hastily down the stairs, I mistakenly slipped and fell. Then, my parents, Grandparents, and sister rushed after me to see if I was okay. I suddenly had lost consciousness and was unresponsive. my mom called 911 and my sister prepared to give me CPR. It was a very frightening moment for everyone. Luckily, my sister had
...e gas station man handed me a little black box. He told me to get a spare key made and put it into that box. It was magnetized on one side so that it would cling to the outside of the vehicle under the wheel well in case this ever happened again. I thanked them both again for their kind gestures. The man from the grocery store replied "no big deal, think of it as a Christmas present from me to you."
