One day I was at a kids baseball game, and this kid didn't know how to swing, throw, or catch. It was 45 minutes before the game and i saw him warming up. And I thought in my head, this kid needs some help. So I walked over to him and I told him “hey man what's up”, he said “hey”. I told him “it looks like your struggling a little bit at a few things.” he said “what”, I told him “you look like you like baseball, I was just going to give you a few tips.” So I took him to the batting cage first and I started giving him tips on how to improve his swing. About 15 minutes later he started getting the idea. So I threw him another bucket of baseballs, by then he started doing a lot better. Then I took him to the field and started hitting ground
It was the beginning of a new softball season, and I couldn't wait to get out there with my team. At our first practice I remember feeling back at home on the field. Just when I thought this was going to be our teams best season, my parents moved me to a private school. Leaving what I was familiar with was not an easy task, and deciding if I would continue my passion of softball with a different team was even more difficult.
One day a few kids were walking down the road so I thought it would be cool if I told him to jump into a river, I even knew that he could swim, so he did. When he started to drown I realized that he could die so I jumped in and got him out. He forgot that I told him to do it and was thanking me for saving him.
It’s a Sunday afternoon and the whole family is over at grandmother’s house playing a fun game of pickup baseball until they realize they do not know how to hit a baseball. Luckily it is a rather simple process that can easily be taught and learned.
Support: One session I was in a slump and I was having a hard time making contact with the ball but when i did it would go far, they called players like me power hitters. So what I did was practice more and go to the batting cages more often.
My senior year of baseball was quickly coming to an end. I knew the only games we had left were the playoff games. It was the first round of the state playoffs. We were the fourth seed, so we had to play a number one seed. I knew it was going to put our team to the test, but I knew we had a chance to beat them. We had a good last practice before game day, and I felt confident in my team and felt like we were ready for the game.
Hitting a baseball is a task that is learned through trial and error, which makes changing a batter’s swing extremely difficult. Once that batter finds their comfort zone and makes contact they will do the same thing until it fails them once again. Perfecting the mechanics of that swing won’t create an exceptional hitter, but it will create a swing that consistently incr...
Developing my swing is the first step I use in preparing for the upcoming season. There are a few different techniques I use to work on my swing. The first way is to take hitting lessons. I learn much of my knowledge about hitting from taking hitting lessons. My usual routine consists of taking lessons three times a week. This allows me to be evaluated by a professional. I took hitting lessons from the same coach for five straight years. His teachings have helped me become a much better hitter. Another way I develop my swing is by practicing daily. Even though I take hitting lessons, I still need more work. I am lucky enough to have access to a facility that has hitting cages. This allows me to work in the winter and during inclimate weather. By going to work on my swing on my own, I am able to work on the skills that my hitting instructor has taught me. This seems like it would take a long time, but it does not. I carefully plan out my time, and this allows me to use my time wisely. I allot times to work different aspects of my swing. By doing this, I am able to cover all aspects of my swing. I also videotape my swing, and this allows me to view myself afterwards. Since I videotape my practice sessions, I can go over my sessions afterwards. I have caught and fixed many mistakes my carefully watching my swing on the recordings. Developing my swing is the first of three main steps I use in preparing for the upcoming season.
It all began one day when I was six years old. My dad and I were playing catch at my grandparents house in the yard. I decided that I wanted to pitch so I told my dad to crouch down like a catcher. As I began to pitch I would try to imitate my favorite pitcher at the time, Cardinal starter, Chris Carpenter. My grandpa would sit in a chair by the window and watch me throw. After throwing a few pitches my grandpa decided that he wanted to come outside. With his walker, he made his slow walk outside to get a closer look at me. “I think we’ve got something here” he said to my dad as I continued to pitch. From that moment on, I always wanted to pitch in front of him just to listen to what he would have to say about me.
The process of becoming a great baseball player takes talent, hard work, and a ton of practice. Baseball, being the second hardest sport in the world is a hard sport to stay discipline at. As a player, he must make sure he works at all the drills everyday, boring or not. Also, he must have the mental mind set that he definitely wants to make it to the big leagues, if he doesn’t, then its ...
As I layed in my bed on a cold and windy Friday night, i could hear the roar from Fenway park across the street. The Red Sox had a game tonight against their long time rival the New York Yankees. Their games would always be so thrilling and so exciting to be at, i was a young 15 year old boy who like everyone else wanted to be a MLB baseball player. I had always dreamed about playing on that beautiful and playing against those Yankees. Living in Boston mostly everyone here absolutely hates the yankees. I was having a hard time going to bed so i looked outside and was looking at all the people outside walking outside the Ballpark.
Growing up, I have always had a passion for baseball. To me, it is much more than just a sport. There have been times when it has acted as an escape from many problems in my life, as I feel that when I am on the diamond, nothing can hurt me. I am aware that many people feel this way about the sport they love, but sadly their careers often come to an abrupt end due to injury. I have a personal connection to this experience. The summer before my fourth grade year I was attending a basketball camp at Davidson College, when in the final seconds of a scrimmage game, my ankle was kicked out from under me. I immediately fell to the ground in pain as my ankle rolled over on itself. Coaches aided me in limping off of the court and to the training room
Before the Bullpen was available Turner would have a small cage set up in his garage in the winter so we could still work on hitting. A couple other baseball players and I would go there and hit whenever we got the chance. This way we had a play to keep practicing for the season to come. Even during the season he allowed us to come hangout at his house if we wanted a place to chill out before a practice or a game. If we wanted to work on pitching or hitting he would take time out of his day, away from his family, to help us get better. With the help of Shane and Kat Akers they were able to create the Bullpen in Kat’s dance studio. We then could move from makeshift cage in Turner’s garage to a full blown indoor cage. There are two full cages, hitting tees, and even pitching mounds. If people want to hit he will go out of his way to open up the Bullpen for them. Turner has done this for me multiple times for me. There has even been times when he would stay late with me so I could work on my swing or work on pitches I wasn’t quite comfortable with. Turner has been helping me get better at baseball since the seventh grade. He has helped me become the baseball player I am today. Turner has been there for me for more than just
When I did travel softball, my coach wanted us to do a volunteer program and he came across a place called The Miracle League of Joliet. I had no idea what I was getting into but I was excited. When the day came, I fell in love. Miracle league of Joliet is a baseball program that allows disabled children and teens to play a baseball game with a non-disabled buddy, which was me. My first buddy was Johnny, he was older than me but his disability didn’t stop him from playing baseball. He was so open to me and nice, he made me smile the entire
I have been volunteering for the past few years as a “Buddy” for the Challenger division of Little League, in which student volunteers help special-needs children play baseball. This year, I was a “Buddy” for a 6th grade girl, Christina, who has a severe case of Down syndrome. She is nonverbal, has difficulty understanding things said to her, and loses focus very easily. When she arrived, none of the other volunteers wanted to be her buddy because of her extreme special needs. The organizers did not seem to know what to do about pairing her up with a buddy, and she was left alone sitting in the dugout staring into the distance. Although I was a little anxious, I felt sorry for her, and decided that I would be her buddy. I led her onto the field
One of the earliest memories I have of my father is when he would take me to the park and we would play baseball. My father was eager to teach me everything he knew about the game, and I was eager to learn. He took it easy on me at first, allowing me to overcome my fear of being hit by the ball. Each time we went back to the park he would throw the ball a little harder. It was not long before I could catch almost anything he threw at me. My father also used his knowledge of the game to teach me to hit a baseball. Eventually, I was skilled enough to play any position on a baseball team.
