Throughout this course, we have been introduced to many specialization of jobs within psychology. While exploring, the two areas that I have the most interest in is counseling and social psychology. I have been drawn into these subfields because they both work directly with patients, allowing me to have a hands on experience. Also, I am looking at jobs that work with children in some way and these jobs have many jobs that would allow me to do this. Both fields are closely related, but deal with different types of patients. For counseling psychology, I would want to work with in the area of substance abuse or with abused children that deal with family problems at home. With substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors, I would only …show more content…
I could then become a child counseling psychologist, earning around $70,700 per year, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. I would be able to study children’s emotional and social processes through their behavior. I would do this by observing and analyzing sessions with them, trying to identify psychological issues. After finding issues, I’d then set up a treatment plan for them. Also with this job, I would be able to work in different environments, such as schools, hospitals, and juvenile detention centers. I like the idea of this job because I would have so many options of where to work and what kind of patients I’d work …show more content…
One job that interest me would be a school counselor. School counselors work in any level of education and aid students academically and socially, in trying to help them succeed in school. I would advise them on scheduling for their classes and help them monitor their grades. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics says the average yearly salary would be around $53,370 per year. Continuing onto a Master’s degree, I would be able to become a social worker and work with people to help them solve everyday problems, diagnose, and find solutions. I would be able to help families and kids improve their relationship with themselves and as well as other people. An average pay would be around $45,500 per year, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. There would be a wide variety of places to work at, such as mental health clinics, schools, hospitals, community development corporations, and private practices. Most social workers work full time, even on holidays and
Child Psychologists - I am very interested in the field of child psychologist, mainly because so many doctors, parents, and school officials only desire that children behave rather than wondering what is making them behave this way. I would love the opportunity to use my knowledge from health psychology, and other complimenting classes to help determine the reasoning behind behavior issues, social ineptness, and emotional needs that children with and without special circumstances deal with on a daily basis. I realize that in order to perform this type of job I have several more years of hard work and dedication ahead. However, I feel that the need is present and in our fast-paced world, it appears to be growing rather than leveling out.
One of my visions as a psychology practitioner scholar is becoming a clinical counselor. My purpose in psychology is to help people understand their life in a clear distinct way. I specifically want to target children and, help them grow and be more than they have the potential to be. I want to focus on the child development of children based on their environment. I want to be able understand children react the way they do in certain situations. Children have a way of not being able to express themselves fully so being able to help them understand their emotions.
A career in clinical psychology is one that will be promising for anyone seeking to pursue this career. A clinical psychologists’ educational training is a dead-ringer for success, if completed with a doctorate. A doctorate for a clinical psychologist is the best way to get ahead and have the upper hand in this field. A clinical psychologist’s salary is one that will be growing steadily along with the number of growing demands for psychologists. Anyone who chooses to pursue clinical psychology, that fits the profile for the job, will be set and secure. Clinical psychology is a bright career that I hope to someday enter into, following the pathway that my research has yielded; with that, I may begin my journey.
With basketball completely out of the equation, my quintessential career path would be to become some sort of counselor. Before jumping to conclusions assuming a counselor is someone who just sits back with a pen and notepad all day giving the occasional “how does that make you feel”, a lot of things need to be taken into consideration about how much time, and effort and strenuous work is required to pursue this career path. A counselor (depending on what field) is typically someone who uses therapeutic techniques to help patients strengthen existing qualities and skills used in everyday life. Ideally I would like to become a school counselor to begin coping with the minds of the youth, then hopefully move on from there. In order to do so I would need to complete 4 requirements. First I would have to get my masters degree and/or doctoral degree in counseling: While doing so I will need to minor in psychology. Second I’d have to take on some sort of internship and learn to deal with human stress and anxiety. Third, after my education and training I would need to pass the specific states exam. And finally I would have to apply for my professional counseling license.
The career field I picked was Child Psychology. Child psychology is the study of how children act and behave. In general, a childhood psychologist might work with children and their primary caregivers in order to research, assess, and possibly treat developmental issues. Depending on his preferred area of study, a child psychologist will often work with all sorts of children. Not every child that a child psychologist works with is considered to be abnormal. A child psychologist might work with so-called "normal" children for several reasons.
A career in psychology is one that offers a wide variety of paths in which you can pursuit it. When one decides that they want to accomplish a degree in psychology, the next step is to decide what specific path you are willing to take. In the beginning we might feel overwhelmed, unsure and scared by having all these choices, and not knowing which one to turn to, or if were even making the right choice. Exploring the different paths in the career can help us narrow down the alternatives that we are exposed to. I have decided to major in psychology and work in a field with kids, and have decided to explore the following jobs in the field of psychology: clinical psychology, developmental psychology,
The field of psychology includes many different organizations in the fields of psychology. The American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association help promote professional research and resources for counselors in the field. Degrees are available through the doctorate level and two types of programs tend to be offered. Both Clinical and Counseling psychology programs are common, though they offer different theoretical models of instruction and practice.
Almost in every career psychology is used therefore it becomes important to be able to link it to the career path. As a psychiatric nurse there are numerous topics that tie in to this career choice. This is probably one of the most demanding fields where the knowledge of psychology is essential. Law and psychology, schizophrenia is significant topics that connect to my career.
When I grow up I want to be a counselor. I want to be a middle school counselor because I love to hang out and talk with middle schoolers! I feel like this is an appropriate career for me because in 99% of the things I do everyday I interact with people and enjoy talking, A LOT! I am really good with talking to people about their problems and solving them to. These reasons make me feel like this is a right career choice for me.
As a beginner psychologist, I would be making at least $64,000 or more per year depending on where I choose to live. It would slightly increase
I have seen a lot of marriages falling apart, because they don't go to talk to a professional. So much pain and suffering a family will go through, especially when they have children. Parents believe that everything will be okay and if they bottled everything inside it will go away. People don't realize that talking things out and seeking help can resolve many issues, it can even safe a family from being torn apart. If someone really loved each other they will do anything to figure out what is causing all these issues. My cousin is a marriage and family therapist, she has helped many people get back together and be happy again. I want to do that, I want to help people get their happy endings, we all deserve one. As a therapist who is doing
A Counseling Psychologist is someone who listens to their client’s problems and tries to find ways to help them or direct them to other people that can help them. I chose Counseling Psychologist because I know how to listen to what is bothering other people and try to find a way to help
The economy is getting better but it’s still rough. I know it’s still rough because everyone has two jobs. Let me give you an example, I ordered food from this place one time and it took an hour for the food to get delivered. An hour. That’s pretty standard somehow for internet delivery, and it was ok, because the food was delicious. But the second time, the second time that I ordered from them, the delivery took over two hours. Two hours. When you order food, you are already hungry, and I can handle an hour but two hours? Two hours? Let’s just say I was a little bit upset. So finally, after two hours, the guy gets to the door and he doesn’t hand me my food and leave, no, he holds onto to it. He’s standing in my doorway, looking past me, at
When I was in middle school, I had a rough time. I was emotionally distraught and confused about myself and where I fit in the world. My parents divorced when I was eleven, and my Dad diagnosed with PTSD was in and out of the picture. My mother tried to help but she was at a loss. Finally our family Doctor gave her the name of a child therapist. This woman was amazing! She listened without judgment and offered solutions to help soothe my raging emotions. Furthermore she helped me realize it was acceptable to be who I was. She validated my feelings, and she ultimately changed my life. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be a counselor.
Whenever i was working this summer we had someone not show up just because he didn't want to. He didn't call to tell anyone he wasn’t gonna be there and we had to close down the place i was working because someone decided not to come into work. We had another person who wouldn’t show up on time and would leave before it was closing time everyday and each day he made up excuses to leave and why he was late. If I was a boss or manager of a department and i had someone constantly doing something like this I wouldn't let my employ do that either he gets on time and stays till closing or he leaves and that is it. Everyday I would get there 15-20 minutes before i was scheduled so i can get everything cleaned from the previous worker the day before
