I frequently find myself writing at work. I work at Intermountain Medical Center as a Patient Care Tech and as a Health Unit Coordinator. I often am writing for myself, writing to my coworkers, other departments and also to my boss. I write and chart in the computer and send a lot of E-mails and type on a lot of different documents. I have noticed that as I write the longer I have been in this current job the more comfortable I am with colleagues and boss. The writing situation really does have an influence on the texts I produce.
I write as a Patient Care Tech on the patient’s communication boards. I write the date, patient’s name, there diet order, there activity level, who there Registered Nurse is for the day, who there Patient Care
Tech is for the day, who the Charge Nurse is for the day, and patients family name and phone number. I also write on my brain or report sheet information about the patient. I write the patients room number , there name, age, nurse, code status, diagnosis, history, there genitourinary status, if they are a blood glucose check, diet, activity level, if they are on a heart or oxygen monitor, falls risk, aspiration precautions, when they need to be weighed, what specimens we need if any, if they have a blood pressure restriction, if there bed needs to be in a certain position, if they are on isolation, if they need to be turned every two hours, if they are bed alarmed, there intake and out put, there vital signs every four hours, and if they are on oxygen. As a Health Unit Coordinator I write various emails and update documents and spreadsheets on a daily basis. We have audits on Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections, Isolations, Patient Status Orders, and Patient Safety. I also use Skype Messaging as a way of communication with various departments such as Social Work, Pharmacy, and other unit coordinators. Email is another big part of my job, Emailing my Boss, or Social Work or my other colleagues on a daily basis. I participate in all of this writing because I love my job and caring for patients. Sure, it can be a lot and very stressful most days but at the end of the day I love the satisfaction I get of helping the patients out when they cant do it on there own. The situation I am writing in really influences the texts I produce. Here is an example, If I am writing on my patients communication board I am not going to write that there diet is a NDD3, ADA 75 Gram, Cardiac diet, I am going to write a soft diabetic diet with low salt. Also for there activity I’m not going to write up Ad Lib I am going to write Independent or can get up on own. When I give report to my night shift Patient Care Techs I am going to say that they are a NDD3, ADA 75 Gram, Cardiac diet because my night shift Patient Care Tech Understands those medical terms where a patient most likely will not know what that means. I was actually thinking the other day that the longer I have been at this job the more comfortable I feel around my coworkers and everyone in all the different departments in the hospital. So the more comfortable my writing seems as I am communicating to everyone.

Even though the majority of hospitals and health care facilities are computerized, the charge nurse has to communicate with a multitude of health care professionals during every shift. Society’s strong reliance on technology emphasizes the importance of electronic writing and communication for all nurses. Throughout the shift, the charge nurse will have to send urgent text messages and emails to their supervisor or coworkers to ensure everything is running smoothly on the floor. Even though email and text might be thought of as informal communication, writing skills must be professional when speaking with superiors and coworkers to maintain an appropriate appearance (Knab,
My desire to become a nurse is deeply-rooted in my aspiration to contribute to the well-being and improvement of the less privileged as well as my own personal ethical stance. My decision was made easy by the professional code of ethics of nursing, which correspond with my personal beliefs. One of my personal values that have shaped me into who I am today is honesty. It is important to provide patients with accurate information on procedures, diagnosis, treatment options, and possible outcomes. Although I am fallible, it is imperative to acknowledge and take responsibility of my own mistakes. These personal qualities would help propel me into my professional career.
As a nurse, I feel that at many times I am placed in a situation, where I need to use my leadership skills in order to provide efficient care by managing the limited time. According to CNO guideline, leadership is a process of influencing people to achieve common goals. It requires self-awareness and commitment towards profession, ability to delegate, manage time and to communicate effectively within the health care professionals.
Most people question whether to go into a career in the medical field, but what really drew my attention to the profession of a Registered Nurse is the fact that they help people in more than one place, they are higher up in the medical field, and they put in a lot of time and effort in to tending the needs of their patients. The profession of a registered nurse is one that requires us to care for the health of others.
Registered nurses get the opportunity to save lives and make a difference in the lives of others. The nature of a nursing career is appealing, because it is ever-changing. As technology advances, so does the field of nursing; therefore, there is a lifetime of learning and gaining new skills. Nursing is an intensive program. It takes a minimum of a two year associates degree to become an RN, also referred to as a Registered Nurse. Because I am someone who easily obtains boredom, this job field sparks my interest. Since my early childhood, I have wanted to pursue this career. My grandmother is a RN, and the opportunity to help someone in need is something I would like to take advantage of. Registered Nursing is a rewarding field that has job
I started my Nursing career in India and then I came to the United States and became an RN. I entered Nursing with the thinking that Nursing is a profession that will always allow me to have a job and all my patients will get better. However, from my experiences I understood that Nursing is more than just giving medications, and it requires clinical competence, cultural sensitivity, ethics, caring for others, and life-long learning about others and the evolving field of medicine. Florence Nightingale once said:
Writers from professional to elementary students suffer from writers block. Writers block is when you cannot think of anything to write. Writers block is usually caused by stress. The brain then has a reaction which disables its ability to put what it is thinking on to paper. As Patricia Huston describes it, “The right, or creative, side of the brain, seeks to create (in this case, write). This induces the left, or analytic, side of the brain to anticipate all the problems that this action could entail, causing it to go into "overdrive" and inhibit the ability to write.” (Paticia Huston)One knows if they have writers block if they are staring at a computer screen or piece of paper for a long period of time. You also know you have it if the writer just feels unwilling to write or is simply just disinterested in the topic. Avoiding writers block is almost impossible since almost everybody experiences it, but there are still many ways to help prevent or cure it.
As a team we it is vital that we demonstrate clear logical communication. We are required to document all activities and behaviours in a log book this is a legal document it must be accurate. When we are handing over information to the next shift it is important to have the log book up to date ,all appointments in the diary clear and concise a to do list any medications charted a documented ready for the next shift. We rely in communication to ensure all of our vulnerable young peoples need are met and to ensure we are all informed and on the same page in regards to delivering excellent care to our residents. Communicating via e-mail and constant communication to management via the phone is essential as our working conditions can change at any moment.
A good nurse needs to encourage their patients to confide specific and, at times, difficult knowledge about themselves or their situation. A seemingly more relaxed tone of writing can result in more complete medical history, and lead to a more accurate diagnosis. Texting is another form of casual writing prevalent in the modern medical industry. Some hospitals and large medical offices use texting to not only communicate amongst staff, but also to connect with their patients after
In this job, I have learned to read and understand things what typically “normal” people do not understand. There are many ways and tools that our nurses use to communicate with our clients such as oral, written, sign language, communication boards and machines, gestures, and other specialized communication objects.

The only writings I do these days, outside of school, are memos and proposals for my occupation. I work in an office for an interior design center. These memos and proposals are not personal and are not very thought provoking. Therefore, do not serve many purposes in helping me to become a better
Written words can be preserved for long periods of time and can be read by those who stumble upon the written work; however, I write only when I feel it is necessary or is asked of me. I seldom feel the urge to get out of bed to write my thoughts of paper. A smaller form of writing that I choose to use every day is when I am messaging someone on my phone or I am making notes for something I have to do later.
