Personal Narrative: A Career As A Photographers

Traveling and seeing new cultures and capturing every moment of it. Photography has to do with creativity and the practice of taking and processing photos. I chose photography because it matched my personality and all of the things I wanted in a career. Photography is the best career choice based on the work environment, education and training, important qualities needed, salary, and job outlook.

Work Environment

Photographers have many responsibilities in order to be successful. Photographers must know how to make little kids smile for the camera, they do this for all age groups. They do this by possibly making a silly face or placing a mirror in front of them etc.I think that this is important because if the kids or anyone didn’t smile for the camera, then the photos wouldn’t create a positive feeling. Photographers also need to know when to use the right lighting and when to and not to use the flash. They need to know this or else the pictures they take wouldn’t be as high quality. Another thing photographers need to do is create backgrounds for photo shoots. If photographers didn’t do this, then the background of every picture taken would be plain. To be successful, photographers have many responsibilities to take care of.

Most photographers must travel while

others stay in their office. Most photographers have to travel around the world to capture the setting they are looking for. Photographers have to travel because they need new inspiration. I think that it is interesting that photographers get to travel around the word to be inspired. Although most photographers travel, some stay behind to edit photos. If these people didn’t behind to edit these then photos wouldn’t turn out as well as they do. I think that it is good to have editors so they can preview the photo before printing it. While other photographers are taking photos, others are editing them.

Education and Training
Although not a lot of education is required, there is some training needed in order to be a photographer.

Not a lot of education is needed for photography but many take classes. This is because there is not a lot of everything everyone needs to know about photography can be taught in fewer classes. I think that it’s nice that photography doesn’t require as much education as other careers. For training, people need to be able to take good photos. It takes years to perfect the picture taking. I don’t like this part of the job because I never knew that it took years to take a good photo. Even though there is more training required there is barely any education needed for

photography.
Important Qualities
There is very little things to do in order to be a successful photographer. The only main traits people need for photography is to have the ability to take good photos and have a creative mind. If they weren’t able to turn photos, then they wouldn’t turn out as well and if a person didn’t have a creative mind, then the pictures wouldn’t be as clever. I these traits are important because if anyone didn’t have these traits, they wouldn’t be successful. Also, photographers don’t need any kind of education. This is because small classes are taken instead. I think it is better to take small classes for photography because there isn’t much to know about it. Although photography doesn’t require much, everyone need everything that is required.
My career clusters don’t match and neither do my work values. My clusters and my work values don’t match because photography isn’t a common job many people do. I think it is normal that neither of my work values or career clusters match because only 4% of people get a job as a photographer. My career clusters and my work values don’t match.

The people in the lowest 10% are probably people new to photography or don’t have enough education to excel further. If this chart is accurate, then I will not make good money at first. But If I continue to work hard, then by the end I will earn good money.

According to this chart, It will be hard to get a job as a photographer. This is because the percentage is so low to get a job. Hopefully by the time I will try to get a job to be a photographer, the percentage will go up.

Reflection
After researching the work environment, education and training, important qualities needed, salary and job outlook, photography is the best career choice for me. I still have an interest in my career because photographers get to capture every moment of everything, and that’s what I want to do. The next steps for me is to continue to researching photography and learn more about it. I have researched other careers while doing this, but none of them have met everything I want in a job, but photography does. So I am planning to do more research with photography and keep learning more about it.
