I am a teacher in the Detroit Public School system. Being a teacher did not start out being the profession of choice. However, I do enjoy teaching. Pedagogy is in fact an art and a science. Being a pedagogue is most rewarding. Thus, pedagogy has its own unique complications. Technology has revolutionized the art of teaching. This revolution has presented a strange dichotomy in the field of education. Whatever teaching may have evolved into; it is and will remain a dichotomous field. The dichotomous or two sided existence in teaching is due to human factor. We are social beings. There are ways in which we receive and process information. In our reading it talks about learning styles in pathways of learning. We do have different learning styles. Within this complexity is the basis of the dichotomy. On one side we have the ascent of technology. On the other side there is the way we learn. My personal goal is to be a teacher able to identify, understand, and without prejudice respect the various learning styles. Prejudice is also talked about in "Ethical Reasoning". I believe it is not possible to be successful at teaching without understanding various learning styles. Our learning styles are affected or influenced by social and economic conditions. I believe that University Of Phoenix has the program to equip me with much of what is needed to become a better educator. The conditions in which to apply pedagogy is extreme. Lets briefly examine some of the conditions in which teachers must prevail. In my conclusion I hope to have demonstrated what my personal goals are. As a teacher in the Detroit Public School System; there is a great deal of planning that must take place. Planning to utilize building space, room capacity, teacher assignments, curriculum, security, and parent involvement must all be planned. This planning occurs in the beginning of each year. The planning stage is a critical part of the school programs. Planning establish the academic and social direction, and tenor of the school for the entire year. The Detroit Public Schools are dramatically affected by social trends, economic changes, demographic changes, cultural and political changes. In the upcoming paragraphs I will briefly discuss the impact of these external factors. Thus, we will address some of the many internal factors. After describing many of the external factors, I will briefly introduce the plans to address these factors.
Connecting people to the success of the district is one matter, but asking them to support it financially is another. The district is growing in size and is in need of new facilities and internal academic structures to support the growth. As the district continues to grow she is challenged with ensuring that the schools continue to interact with each other and do not return to the independent silos they were when she arrived. Ms. Hall realizes that she is the internal and external face of the district. She takes that very seriously and therefore, tires to view challenges as opportunities and successes as building blocks and
So, with all of that being said, Detroit needs a societal change. Some might say it’s impossible, one group therapy session for 800,000 people, but something needs to change or society will continue do dive into a spiral that will further destroy the schooling system and eradicate any chance of a better future for Detroit. Just one third of all kids in Detroit are graduating high school, many of them joining gangs or taking the opportunity to make money as soon as they can in order to help their families survive. To reiterate, government funds need to be cut, or the government needs to be stricter in regards to who it is given to such as drug tests and weekly work requirements. It is not a solution to all of Detroit’s issues, but will surely attract teachers and educated bodies to the once restless city that is Detroit, Michigan.
Detroit is a story of a once flourishing city that has been on a long downslide for decades. There are miles of unoccupied homes and buildings, and crimes and unemployment are at an all-time high. Many aspects of the city are breaking down, including the school system. The Detroit Public School System has lost over eighty thousand students due to high enrollment in charter schools, the large economic decline, and the departure of residents. For many years no one has taken responsibility for the public school system. However, for Detroit to rise again, it is necessary for someone to take responsibility, make a plan, and make sure that children are safe, well cared for, and are receiving a high quality education when going to school each day. In 2016, schools are low-performing with poor test scores, are falling apart, and teachers and parents have decided to take a stand.
Collaborating with the school administration team, I was able to gain suffice information about the needs of the school as well as the needs from the community. I was given information about the academic needs of the students as well as the school’s improvement plan, which consists of the school needs assessment. Analyzing the needs assessment and test score data, there is a need for academic improvement is needed in the content areas of English-Language Arts and Math. The school is in need of strategies to improve scores in these areas, but the community can play an integral part in helping to provide the necessary resources, tools, and materials to enhance student learning in these areas. This could be established by community-school partnerships, if the school effectively communicates to the community their need for academic assistance. This can be achieved at PTO meetings, school activities, and local colleges or universities.
After reading the book “Perspectives on Learning” I have gained an enormous amount of knowledge on not only how to become a teacher, but what it takes in order to become a successful teacher. The biggest message I gained from the reading is that there is more than just one type of learning style. This book has taught me many theories, strategies, and skills that are useful in the teaching field. The book gave multiple perspectives on learning and encouraged different types of facilitated learning. Every student learns a different way and there is not one way that works best for everyone. I feel prepared when it comes to understanding students mindsets and the different styles of learning kids may

In my quest to find a school for my kids, I was disappointed by what my options were. Being that my kids and I are a low-income family we also have limited housing options, were there are the better schools. I decided to give the local area schools the benefit of the doubt and enroll my two kids, Mikkayla and Pharoah. Over the school years I made notes on the things that I saw and learned about the schools and my neighborhood. My goals are to establish ways to improve the school system and help bring about change in the school’s neighborhood.

The number one thing that drives our facility planning is data; particularly population and program growth. Likewise, the number one goal that is incorporated within this plan is the importance of our schools being places that promote learning and growing.
Being proactive is key in the success of any venture. “But all things should be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40 ESV). When planning for the new school year, creating a filing system to store policy handbooks, school communications, and other pertinent documents is ideal. Proactively developing classroom procedures that are simple and easily followed is essential, as consistency will aid in a positive classroom environment. Becoming familiar with school policies and procedures is another integral part of being prepared prior to the start of school. With an array of students in today’s classroom celebrating their cultures can be fun. Therefore, knowing what is permitted is definitely essential. Starting school can be overwhelming
Ethics is basically a set of moral values and principles of one’s own or an organization. It is diagnosticating between right and wrong matter. Ethics is derived from a Greek word ‘ethos’ which means character or habits. ”Ethics is not definable, it is not implementable, because it is not conscious, it involves not only our thinking, but also our feeling.(Setzar 1709-1784)”.However, ethical values could be different among different individuals or personalities as everyone has their own precedence in life and also they have different cultures, religion , nation and nurturing according to which they prioritize their values. Moreover, these ethical values play a vast role in attaining certain goals in life either personal or professional. Goal is basically a result or achievement that one tends to acquire in life. But one shouldn’t earn his/ her goal on the cost of their ethical values. I believe that everyone should have specific plans to achieve desired goals in life but one should always emphasize on his/her own ethical values while making these plans to achieve goals. Many people however set a certain time limit to fetch their goal. I have various goals in my life that I wish to accomplish in my life. First of all I would like to discuss my personal goals. Personal goals are really important in one’s life to have a happy present and pleasant future. Personal goals are what one wants to see himself/ herself in person. My Personal goals are firstly to fulfill all the promises that I have made with my family. My family is in first place for me. I want to make my family proud of me. My father is my ideal as he is a very kind person a very good husband, a very good son and the best father on this earth. I really want to be like my...
As a child, I learned many things about myself including which movies, sports, people, etc. that I liked and disliked. Through learning experiences, I discovered what was truly important to me, and I realized what I needed to do to do to make my dreams come true. Most importantly, I decided that I should attend a prestigious university like Georgia Institute of Technology and play Major League Baseball. Throughout high school, I have worked diligently both academically and athletically, and through this journey, I developed a strong Christian faith, participated in several clubs and sports, and pursued a couple enjoyable hobbies.
Thought out our lives, we are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these experiences have made a better impact than others. This can be attributed to everyone’s different multiple intelligences or learning styles. A persons learning style is the method though which they gain information about their environment. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know these styles, so we can reach each of our students and use all of the necessary methods.
“The only thing constant in life is change”. French author Francois de la Rochefouchauld captures the essence of change so well in that quote. Considering how often we must handle changes, the educational community struggles. When looking at a district it is easy to find all of the areas that could use improvement. Creating focus and a plan for a specific change requires careful consideration and a lot of time to manage the change. In the Spring-Ford Area School District, there is so much that is going right, despite the need for a significant curriculum updates and adjustments as well as a comprehensive professional development plan.
As a result, the most challenging aspect of teaching is teaching the curriculum in a manner that all students can understand. Universities often require professors to conform to set standard, goals and outcomes, and implies that all students are the same- that they all have similar needs and wants and in fact can reach similar academic ends (Kanpol, 1999). But not all students are the same, their learning styles differ as much as their social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Feldman (as cited in Akhar, 2011) states that our learning style reflects our preferred manner of acquiring: using and thinking about knowledge. A person comes across different situations in his life. It’s his learning style, which determines how he perceives, organizes and responds to handle the situation (Akhtar, 2011). Teachers have to be able to assess the learning styles quickly in order to adjust their teaching style to produce the greatest learning outcomes. Understanding how a student views the communication in the classroom also critical to learning; communication is intuitive, involving feelings, attitudes, general knowledge and social understanding. The process develops from experiences and our impression of a speaker. This is communicated by dress, manner, posture,
