My First Day at School
I walked up the small hill towards the school with my parents. I breathed in the air and sighed. The air in Japan is so much cleaner than the air in Hong Kong, where there is a lot of pollution. I had my pencil case and lunch in my school bag like the email that had been sent to my parents had said. What am I going to do today? Is this school like my previous school in Hong Kong? Am I going to make any friends today? Did I chose the right school? Many questions in my head were waiting to be answered. I opened the door to my new school.
It took me a few minutes to find the fifth grade area, but I was able to get there on time. I was really scared. What if everybody hated me? I had never moved schools before, and I had no idea what it was like. Outside the classrooms, I saw some new people I saw on Orientation day like Telma, and Maria.
“Hi Maria and Telma, Are you nervous?” I asked.
“Yes,” they answered.
“I’m nervous too. I hope we are in the same class. I’ll be going to see which class I’m going to be in. Good luck for today” I walked towards the class...
I think I would be a good student at this school. I knew from visiting that the school itself held a warm, home-like feel to it. The academic and home-like environment seemed like a great place for me; I think I might be able to excel here. And here I was again, just a week later, except cold, sopping wet, and disoriented. Why was I even out in the rain? I wondered. I couldn’t seem to remember what I was doing before. My memory was foggy until the moment I stepped through the door.
In this first unit of The First Days of School, Harry Wong presents three characteristics of an effective teacher. The three characteristics are: has good classroom management skills, teaches for mastery, and has positive expectations for student success.
I had a good year in first grade. I became the best artist in the class. I started getting better at English. My first word was “bathroom.” I made two friends Michelle Sherman and Karen Calle. After that I started feeling better and actually liking this school. Everything felt better and worked out great!
Walking through the dark hallway, I struggled to find the light every day. Going into my classroom felt like opening the door to a pathway to hell. I cried each and every day hoping and praying I would go back to the place I loved my whole life, my school back in Ethiopia. As I walked into my old school, past memories and emotion came rushing back to me. I saw my old hiding place, I would go there to get away from all my problems. It was beside the cafeteria, where a small room was located. The walls were dusty and the floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for a year, but I didn’t care because that was my place where I can hide from the rest of the world. One day I heard a knock at the door, I thought who in their right mind would want to come here, but as it turned out that day was the day everything changed and I met my best friend there. My whole perspective about school changed that day. The ugly building I did not want to walk into became like my second home. I realized I was lucky to have a school to go to, and most people don’t have a chance to even go to school. Going to my classes became the best part of my day. Having my best friend beside me taught me that I can accomplish anything if I try my
Yet again, I was starting another school where I didn’t know anyone.I had to do it all over again, with the same thoughts going through my head, wondering what it was going to be like, always wondering if I was going to fit and make friends easily knowing how big it was. I decided that these next two years at this school were going to be focused on college and my school work, I wasn’t going to be in any clubs or sports. I thought to myself that joining a sport at a small school was very different and I didn’t want to know what it was like at a big school. I managed starting this school just like I managed starting high school. Good thing I am very outgoing so I enjoy meeting new people! I remember my first day of school there like it was yesterday. Walking in and seeing thousands of faces that I have never seen before. It was huge, 1500 in each grade. It was so big that they had two different campuses; one for the freshman and sophomores and another for the juniors and seniors. It was really hard making friends but I was lucky enough to be able to go to the Lake County Tech Campus associated with the College of Lake County and I made a lot of friends there in my nursing class. It was a very racial school, there wasn’t a majority of one race whereas Central was majority whites. I enjoyed all of my teachers that I ever had at Warren and I felt that I really learned a lot compared to feeling like I was ever
A little girl goes to school for the first time wearing a blue striped t-shirt, blue jean shorts, and a brand new pair of sneakers. She wakes up early, fearful, excited, but mostly giddy. For such a little girl, she is exceptionally intelligent. She is ready to learn and has been asking her Mommy when this day would come for what has felt like a life time in kid years. Her mother did her hair in pigtails for the occasion, her outfit was laid out a week ahead, and her backpack had been packed for weeks. Her first day would have been amazing. Her new teacher asked each student what they wanted to be when they grew up. The girl said, “I want to be a soldier.” She was proud of the soldiers, her Grandpa was a soldier. But something happened, the teacher said, “You can’t do that, pick something else. You’re just a girl.”
My first response of the school was why an elementary school does not have a big entrance door. After we went into the school, the president gave us a small introduction and assigned us to different classrooms. Justin and I were assigned to one class. I’m so excited when I heard that I was assigned to the kindergarten part of the school. Also, I was super nervous since I know nothing about American schools except university.
The first day of school was pretty nerve racking. I could tell who had been there for years, as well as the people who
I scarcely snoozed at all, the day before; incidentally, I felt insecure regarding the fact of what the unfamiliar tomorrow may bring and that was rather unnerving. After awakening from a practically restless slumber, I had a hefty breakfast expecting that by the conclusion of the day, all I wanted to do is go back home and sleep. Finally, after it was over, my dad gladly drove me to school; there, stood the place where I would spend my next four years of my life.
On the first day of college; my teachers said to me; Study hard and you 'll get a degree. The Course 's Enduring Understanding (EU) is ideas, habits, and general comprehension of what students should know or will soon find out. Over the course of my first semester I learned ideas such as studying, sceduding, and trying to fit all that into one week and 5 classes. I also learned habits such as reading, thinking, listening, presenting. We used all of those skills in the course of the whole semester and it kind of got me read for what the other courses where going to bring.
It was finally the first day of school; I was excited yet nervous. I hoped I would be able to make new friends. The first time I saw the schools name I thought it was the strangest name I’ve ever heard or read, therefore I found it hard to pronounce it in the beginning. The schools’ floors had painted black paw prints, which stood out on the white tiled floor. Once you walk through the doors the office is to the right. The office seemed a bit cramped, since it had so many rooms in such a small area. In the office I meet with a really nice, sweet secretary who helped me register into the school, giving me a small tour of the school, also helping me find
It was a gloomy Tuesday despite the fact that it was late August. I had missed the first day of school because I always hated the idea of introductions and forced social situations during those times. I hated my particular school ever since I started as a freshman the
I was so excited yet so terrified at the thought of my first day in
Fun, scaring, exciting are the feelings of my first week of school. This is a brand new experience of my life having to leave my friends and teachers in middle school behind. New school, new friends and new teachers are all part of this new school year. This one is different though, it’s the first week of high school.
I got up early that morning due to an improper sleep during the previous night. It was due to the anxiety to start fresh with my new life. I was determined to be the best in whatever it is that I do, so that I would have something to be proud of in the pages of my life. Due to the fear of reaching late during my first day, I reached one hour earlier than necessary and decided to spend some time at KTC (Kelapa gading Trade Center) which is located right beside the University. I was hoping that time would move a lot faster because I wanted to find out about what was going to happen next. But it is a common fact that if we are anxiously waiting for something, time would seem to crawl a lot slower. When it was finally the time to head back to the campus, I hoped for everything to go on smoothly, just as how I expected it. I braced myself and went to meet Sofia, who was responsible for the new students, to inquire about my classroom. After being instructed on which room to go to, I started walking towards the class, the mixture of excitement and nervousness start to fill within me. I started to feel like standard 1 all over again where I was a little kid who didn’,t know where to go. I didn’,t know anyone in the class except for Diksha who is my childhood friend.
