It’s not very comfortable, lying here. The dirt on my face gets a little bit warm sometimes. I think it must be daytime, there must be sunlight. But underneath me it’s cold, and kind of wet, with things crawling around. (Pause) Maybe you think I shouldn’t talk about this, maybe you think you shouldn’t have to listen. Kids get killed all the time, what’s the big deal? (Laughs) Kids really do get killed all the time. I should know. (Pause) We’re supposed to have these happy childhoods, right? We’re supposed to have loving moms and dads and sweet neighborhoods and life is supposed to be clean and nice and everything. Nothing bad ever happens to us, right? Thats us. That's who we are. Kids of the next generation, nothing is supposed to touch us. …show more content…
When we were little we reminded them of something, maybe a time when they were little kids and everything was fine. But when we get older we start to get sexuaol and we start to want to drink. We don’t don't want to stay home as often and we don't need them as much. And they don’t seem to like that as much. The neighborhood doesn’t seem so nice, and all the people in it don't seem so sweet, and all the kids are older and hanging out together. (pause) Anyways. It turns out to be a world where people get killed. Like I did. (pause) I mean, i already knew some kids who got killed before me, in Glendale, these parents had their kids in a daycare center, and this man just walks in and shoots all of them, every one of them, and their teacher, and the person who made their lunch. She was a spanish woman, she didn't even speak english, but he shot
Everyone deserves a second chance; no one is perfect in this world.Certainly teens who may now be adults have come to realization that what they did was morally wrong but they have to be given the possibility to redeem themselves. To demonstrate that the heinous crime they committed does not necessarily make or mark them as harsh and insensitive human-beings.Occasionally the circumstances are what cause juveniles to behave a certain way. Moreover, it 's important to take in consideration that kids are considerably more impulsive and emotionally volatile than adults.Their brains don 't function and aren 't fully developed the way an adults brain is, their actually more reactive to stress. If you have no faults of your own;which is quite unlikely
The sentencing of underage criminals has remained a logistical and moral issue in the world for a very long time. The issue is brought to our perspective in the documentary Making a Murderer and the audio podcast Serial. When trying to overcome this issue, we ask ourselves, “When should juveniles receive life sentences?” or “Should young inmates be housed with adults?” or “Was the Supreme Court right to make it illegal to sentence a minor to death?”. There are multiple answers to these questions, and it’s necessary to either take a moral or logical approach to the problem.
Mass murder is defined by the FBI as the killing of three or more people in a single event or in the same day (Petersen & Farrington, 2007). Mass murderers are complex and can be examined by the many factors that regularly appear among them, such as violence precipitating events, weapon of choice, and mental illnesses. The motivations and methods for committing mass murder are easily broken down into specific groups, and through the examination of these definitions and specific cases there is much to learn about the mind of a mass murderer.
“Most of the research on youth’s perceptions of violence, however, is based on topics and questions defined by researchers. Few studies provide a format that allows youth to express their ideas about youth violence in their own voices. Rather, they report youth’s responses to closed-ended questions about issues in which the researcher is interested. The unique contribution of this study is that it is based on youth’s perspectives on violence in their own words” (Zimmerman et al., 2004). The cause of violence could be for many reasons including peer pressure, family problems, physical and mental health problems as well.
A juvenile is defined as “physiologically immature or undeveloped” in the Merriam Webster dictionary. Throughout the years, laws have changed and teenagers who commit crimes are going to be tried as adults. This is a very big issue because many people have different opinions. Juveniles who commit adult crimes should be given a proper sentence based on the level of their crime because of the goals of the criminal justice system and the teen’s level of competency.
... More lives have been lost in the 21st century then in any century before; therefore foreshadowing that in the years to come we probably should not be so hopeful for real peace. Maybe those heart broken mothers an fathers should not expect to see their children’s deaths as useful. Maybe those orphaned babies should not be given false hope that one day they will be able to go to school without hearing gun shots as if birds were chirping.
Everyone in the United States of America has an opinion on gun control regardless of their age, race, or religion. From within those opinions arguments are formed. People are arguing about gun control at their jobs, at their schools, and sometimes at their places of worship. On one side of things there are the people that support gun control like certain politicians or political organizations, teachers, police officers, and so on. On the other side of things there are the people that are against gun control, people such as hunters and various types of criminals. When it comes down to sensitive topics like gun control, there are very few people that do not choose a side. The Second Amendment, like all Amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights, is not absolute. There are vague legal boundaries that have been set down thus far which answers some questions, but leave many more open (Sanders).
It is not a shocker that a book about people living “the good life”, high on happy pills all the time, and not having a care in the world was written. The people wanted to be happy, and when a book about everyone being happy came out, it excelled. This new society was suppose to be a utopia, where everyone was happy, but once you’ve read it, you’ll know that is not the case. The world these people are living in is not good, because people are walking around in a haze. It’s the kind of book that makes you happy about what you’ve got.
"There is a feeling that if you commit murder, you can get away with it." (Filkins 2) There are several thoughts about murder, mainly discussed is the question why? "Rather than rehabilitating juveniles who have gone astray, the system often seems to release hardened criminals." (Glazer 1) One consideration on headlines worldwide was discussed by Sarah Glazer is Children killing Children.
The death penalty should not apply to juveniles because young offenders should be given a second chance, it is considered cruel and unusual punishment and many juveniles are still too young to comprehend the consequences of their actions. They don’t think about the decision they make now may have a big impact on their lives ahead of them. Juveniles are offenders who committed their crimes before tuning eighteen. Juveniles tend to live in the present. There have been many court cases with the controversy on whether the death penalty for juveniles is constitutional or not.
In the twenty first century there have been many cases of kids committing murder, whether it is the relationships they hold at home or the video games they play, the environment a child is exposed to will affect their developmental process. Children are supposed to be innocent and pure without the desire to kill, yet in the last 50 years official statistics on Listverse.com suggest that over 1,100 kids have been found guilty of murder in England alone. The average age of a child that kills is just about fourteen years old. These kids are usually brought up in an environment that does not teach them right from wrong.
The media has been focusing a lot of youth crime, which appears me to be on the rise. To explore this I have chosen to do research on this and focus on my main question, “What causes a youth to engage in criminal activity?” the main focus of this essay will be on the background of crime and how youth crime has changed, the major factors of what causes youth to engage in criminal activity, media use and perceptions.
Throughout history a lot of expects have tried to understand why some people feel the need to commit crimes, even though there have been harsh laws inforced for thouse who commit crimes. These people have come up with theories as to why people commit crimes. in order to understand these theories we have to understand what a crime is and also understand the definition of theories.
Michael Sanders, a Professor at Harvard University, gave a lecture titled “Justice: What’s The Right Thing To Do? The Moral Side of Murder” to nearly a thousand student’s in attendance. The lecture touched on two contrasting philosophies of morality. The first philosophy of morality discussed in the lecture is called Consequentialism. This is the view that "the consequences of one 's conduct are the ultimate basis for any judgment about the rightness or wrongness of that conduct.” (Consequentialism) This type of moral thinking became known as utilitarianism and was formulated by Jeremy Bentham who basically argues that the most moral thing to do is to bring the greatest amount of happiness to the greatest number of people possible.
In today’s generation there are many children and teens that commit crimes to satisfy their self being. Every day we see in the news about the reasons why children or teens commit crimes like murder or homicide. Sentencing juveniles to life in prison is not a right response to prevent homicide and serious murder, because their brains are not fully develop and the bad environment they live in. Teenagers or children need to be remain unformed of preventing crimes in today’s society. With this said, juvenile’s mental brains, backgrounds and growth are the reasons why they are not proficient to maintain themselves in a prison cell.
