THE SUCCESS TRAP Success in our society is often defined by money, fame, social status and admiration from doing a respected job, an attractive spouse, expensive car or a big house. If you are lucky to get these things our society deems you a success. But if you fall for that perception of success, you will only be leading yourself into being unhappy and miserable. How come? If you define success this way, you are setting up a goal-oriented life and you are always aiming for the next goal, be it more money, losing even more weight, greater social status, an even larger house, greater respect etc. Therefore in order to be successful, you must win the game, close the sale, attract a mate, get a bigger promotion or achieve the degree. …show more content…
Your self-worth relies upon your productivity . That is definitely unstable footing since it is not possible to win every time. LIVING BY YOUR VALUES Here is a challenge for you, how about redefining success? Why not live by your values? When you do this, life becomes much easier since you are totally controlling how you live by your values and you can decide how to act on them. This is very useful if your goal happens to be well in the future. You can live a successful life today by living your values, you don't have to delay success until you reach your goal. Just live your values. If you use this definition, a career woman that leaves her career to pursue her values of love, nurturing and caring to stay at home with her children, has more success than a CEO who rakes in millions but isn't living her values of spending valuable time with her family. Albert Einstein once said, "Try not to be a man of success, but rather try to become a man of
Generally speaking, success isn’t just about what you accomplish in life, it’s how you accomplished it and the impact you
I agree with Gladwell that hard work can lead to success. Too often we think success happens because someone has money or gets lucky. This is wrong. Success takes hard work, imagination, and motivation. “Success is not a random act. It arises out of a predictable and powerful set of circumstances and opportunities.” (Gladwell 52) If you assert yourself and use your mind and imagination, you can create those
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
´´ If one advances confident in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. ’’ These words were spoken by Henry David Thoreau.Success is within the mind of the individual. A large portion of one´s life is spent working to become successful. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and achieve all of their dreams. But success takes many different forms. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. It does not matter how related they are to each other in certain áreas they always have a different point of view of what success really is. For some success is measured by social status and wealth
This brings up another point on the negative side of having the desire to wanting to become successful. One must be willing to sacrifice the things of present wants and at certain times even things that are needs. To accumulate the knowledge needed to ac...

The Myth of Money and Success will be defined by the components of happiness such as betterment of self, role in a community, and personal relationships.
It is quite obvious what current society associates with success: material wealth and high status. This perspective is seemingly obvious since having lots of money simply makes it easier to live. Rather than spending time worrying over missed payments and meeting deadlines for jobs, having money readily available makes it easier to enjoy oneself in times of leisure. Although high status has no monetary price tag, being of high status opens many doors. Along with this, high status, usually attained with money, also plays a part in making life a lot more easier and enjoyable.
Accomplishing your aim or purpose can be the true definition of success. You must want to achieve your goals at hand. You must want to earn everything. You really should put in the effort needed to become a successful person. Becoming a successful person requires you to be an extraordinary character. This means you have to be a very self-disciplined, competent, and trustworthy person. That allows you to become more trusted within the community and earn more respect. Learning from your mistakes is essential to your success. Every time you fail you become more knowledgeable on a subject. You can fail as many times as you want but eventually you will learn what is right from wrong. This will lead to you to become open minded and achieve success. You will have to put in the time and effort. Planning ahead allows you to have a schedule so you won’t be behind. If you have a plethora of skills, you will have a higher chance of success than other people. Skills allow you to qualify for certain positions and allow you to excel in what you need to. You can have time to achieve your goals and predict what else you need to do. Success can come in many ways including family, money, fame, respect, and achieving your goals. There are many ways to achieve success but these are only a few ways. Only you can decide who you want to be and determine your own goals. You’re the only person who can judge your
Is there someone you know that is wealthy and prominent? Do they demonstrate the characteristics of a successful person in today’s society? Media today has effectively convinced our society into accepting an untrue, even possibly hazardous definition of success. Even though Webster’s dictionary defines success as “achieving wealth, respect, and fame,” the definition of success is different for everyone. Society wants us to accept that having money, having big house, and owning multiple cars is the key to happiness, and henceforth, success. This is a lie; success is not having a large amount of money nor does it have to deal with fame.
The American Dream is a large house, expensive car, and financial freedom. For some, it includes other luxuries that they believe other people will define them by. However, another definition of success doesn’t list any of this. Success is not solely based on material goods but is rather tied to broader concepts. True success requires respect, appreciation, integrity, and patience—all of which are traits that are difficult to attain.
Until people learn how to differentiate the idea of success and being successful, they will continue to strive for success in order to feel the euphoria. Once people learn how to be happy in every aspect of their life, success will be part of their morals, therefore it will no longer be part of peoples goals but they live. Surround yourself with happiness and you will be happy. Soon you find that success is not what makes you happy. Success is just the feeling after you become happy with yourself. A smile is contagious and so is happiness. People will soon find that the key to success is being happy.
Meaning of success has become confusing. We live in the world that tells us that it is important to be rich rather than be happy. We all know examples of people who are famous and rich, but are very unhappy. For example comedian Dave Chappelle had his own TV show and became a famous and a rich person. Yet underneath he was very unhappy; He was so unhappy that he had to stop his show because he had a nervous breakdown from the pressure of being
Regardless of the fact that we have different goals and we have different definitions of success, there are common principles which if we employ, can lead us all to success.
