At first, I never thought me being good at something would get me in so much trouble. Doing the things you are good at can be dangerous and mess you up big time on whatever other things you are good at. This was basically me on my freshman year of high school, I was so hooked into auto mechanics that I was losing track of everything that was going around me. I was spending so much time everyday working outside in cars, that I almost didn’t have time at all to do school related work or things that I was responsible for. That’s exactly what I like the most of automotive mechanics, when I start to work on a car, you basically forget about everything that is going around you; you are in your own world. However, I had to learn this the …show more content…
hard way, I went down by a 50% on my first semester grades, and I almost lost my job for not being there on time. I had a really hard trying to get up the rest of that school year. Being able to spend time on the things I like to work on, and to spend time with family members, is a huge reason why automotive mechanics fit me perfectly; this is the only way I get to spend quality time with my dad.
That really means a lot for me. Last year my grandmother passed away. It was not easy having to digest something that big, having to say goodbye to someone who had been around you for the most part of your life. When things like this happen, your life changes drastically, and your perspective of life is much different. Here’s when you start to question yourself if you should keep on going or not. As to be expected I fell into a somewhat deep depression, and things just didn’t look like they did before. Such event made a lot of things change, school, work, family, and the perspective on how things were supposed to be in life. However, there was a huge turning point that made things a bit better. My dad bought me a 1996 SN95 mustang v6. This was a huge thing for me because I’m a huge mustang fan. Having such an old car meant that, it needed some work; and that was basically the best part of it. Being able to work on a car, doing the things I like to do the most, was really helpful back at that time, to make me forget about all the crazy events that were
happening. Weeks passed, the mustang started to look good, and my depression was pretty much gone. I then realized, how big of an impact auto mechanics makes in my life. This is exactly what I’m looking for, I’m looking for a career that makes an impact in my own personal life, a career Which I can enjoy going to work and that makes my life better. Automotive mechanics have done a lot for me at this point, such as making me more responsible when managing the things, I’m responsible for, improving my relationship with my dad, and also to give me motivation to continue on in life whenever things start to get ugly. The automotive world has done things for me that I never thought a hobby would offer, having in mind how little I have been involved in the three years I have been working on cars; I can’t imagine how drastically my life could change if I get to work on cars the rest of my life.
A vast majority of our population find operating a manual transmission, or stick shift, to be extremely difficult. However, in actuality all it takes is some serious practice and devotion to make driving a stick shift like second nature. For successful driving, the same steps must be followed each time the car is driven.
A very significant milestone that occurred in my life was the purchase of my first car with my own money. I know some might think that buying a car isn’t that serious or such an achievement, but to me it was. It was important to me because not only did I work hard to save up enough money but I also payed for my car in full. Now this wasn’t easy. I had to discipline myself to not go shopping on the weekends & to only spend money when I really needed to. Knowing that no one helped me to get my car and that I no longer had to depend on anyone gave me a feeling of independence and freedom. That freedom was something that I longed to experience ever since I received my
Finding out about my grandmothers death was the saddest moment in my life . I didn't understand . I didn't expect it to happen , not to me . I wondered why god had taken an important person away from my life , ad for that i felt confused and miserable . I cried for hours that day . Nothing could have brought me joy that day but the presence of my grandmother , but she was gone and i found it hard to overcome the situation.
I know how this experience feels. My first car was a blue 1994 Hyundai Elantra GLS. I loved that car. I would pamper it with the best gas, the best oil; and I would wash it once a week. I would go everywhere with my car.

How to Drive a Manual Transmission According the to LA Times less than 3% of all cars sold in the U.S. have manual transmissions. Manual cars ,also known as “stickshifts”, were the first type of transmissions used in automobiles and gradually have been fazed out for automatics over the past few decades. One of the major reasons for the lack of manual cars is there is less of a demand for them. An abundance of people do not know how to drive manuals therefore the demand for them is diminishing.
I am applying for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Solid Mechanics to expand on my study of and experience with materials. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Materials Science and Engineering as an undergraduate at UCLA. I now look forward to moving into graduate study in a field of engineering with a related, but different perspective. Materials Science and Engineering has allowed me to explore both materials and other fields within engineering, contributing to my strong interest in combining my study of Materials Science and Engineering with Mechanical Engineering. I have completed basic coursework in most areas of engineering, learning statics, thermodynamics, basic programming, and circuit design. This has provided a strong foundation to continue graduate study in other engineering disciplines. I

I was having a weekend getaway with my cousins when, at midnight, we were told that we had to return immediately. I was unaware of the gravity of why I had to come back home so soon, but I knew that it was severe. When I arrived to the hospital, I found out my brother had suffered a heart attack and passed away. I was numb and didn’t know how to process that information. He was my guiding light on my journey going back to school and coping with the death of my first brother. Instead of crying hysterically, all I could think of was “situations like this need to be prevented.” It could have been easy to give up but perseverance and resilience were my only options. Giving up on my dreams had never crossed my mind but my fortitude grew stronger with every wrench thrown my
Something that I really struggled with was the passing of my Grandmother. She was a strong woman and an inspiration to everybody in my family. I think that I struggled with it because she was a great human being, I kind of looked up to her a bit, and of course she was part of my family. I think that along with her passing, I struggled with the fact that she died when I thought that she did nothing wrong in her entire life and did not deserve to die. Mainly the fact that she was a really good person and she just died like that.
Because of what I learned from hitting this “hurdle” in life, I have decided to make the most out of the life I have been given. Overcoming the adversity of losing a loved one has not only challenged me, but has given me a perspective and wisdom that most people are only able to learn through challenges like this one. Life is unpredictable. Like hurdles, life evokes fear, strength, and courage. Life is often like a race, everyone is forced to face their own obstacles, however, like Nelson Mandela once said, “Our greatest glory lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” Throughout life, everyone is bound to face their own set of hurdles, however, the important part is learning to get up, keep moving, and apply what was learned from the experience to overcoming the next
Everyone has milestone days in his/her life that change the direction of his/her life for better or worse. Let me tell you one of my experiences that I will never forget from when I was 12 years old.
I lived with my father for my entire life, but due to his work I did not spend much time with him. My father worked at a different city; and thus he comes home only a few times a month. My father is a mechanic. He works at a company that is distant from our home. This was due to the company being the only one and the first where cars were being assembled in Ethiopia. Sometimes on the weekends I used to go to his work place. He would give me a trip of the place; the station was filled with vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles. It was separated by sections. In each section there were only one type of vehicle and the assembly process was shown step by step. From a fuse to large engine of the car, components were getting attached.
