I have always wondered how the world works and who thinks of ways to do something easier. Mechanical engineering is a hands-on field of designing to installing. What interested me the most was all the opportunities that can come from engineering. I searched the Occupational Outlook Handbook and conducted a personal interview with Richard Schmidt. While conducting this research; I discovered mechanical engineer is perfect for me because of the job duties, work environment, pay, and education. The first reason mechanical engineering is prefect for me is because it allows me to explore my many options throughout industry and the world. “Like other engineers, mechanical engineers use computers extensively. Mechanical engineers are routinely responsible …show more content…
“Mechanical engineers generally work in offices. They may occasionally visit worksites where a problem or piece of equipment needs their personal attention. In most settings, they work with other engineers, engineering technicians, and other professionals as part of a team” (Work Environment). For example, this fits me because it is hard for me to sit in one place for too long. This also gives me the option to do what I think is most curial for my time. Working in groups also lets people bounce ideas off each other to find the best way to go about something. By allowing me to switch between ideas on different projects this offers me job diversity throughout the day. Staying in a changing environment has been introduced in several industries to decrease worker fatigue, and enable workers to become fluent throughout the work place. This just shows one of many reasons why engineering is a great fit for me by letting me grow with an ever-changing job and enable me to advance in technology and …show more content…
The pay can be one of the most vital factors in considering a career path. “The median annual wage for mechanical engineers was $84,190 in May 2016. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $54,420, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $131,350” (Pay). For example, when you start thinking of how you will make it in life, money often comes to mind. Mechanical engineering will offer a wide aspect of life and what you can really do with it. This would allow me to be self-sufficient and I could provide for a future family. Making a salary of at least $85,000 will sanction me to have a comfortable life and be able to enjoy it. With the current rate of mechanization of industry, I could expect to make far more soon and at the rate more students are going to college engineering will grow at a fast
...hanical engineering because I find it the most appealing. I participate in an architecture, construction, and engineering program at school called the ACE Mentor program and I have spoken to several mechanical engineers and gained insightful exposure. In this program, I also worked together with other students, teachers, and mentors to design and create a realistic model of a hotel which we then formally presented at a conference. This year we are building a research facility and interactive museum, which helps me decide which facet of engineering I want to explore. Although, I remain open minded, I prefer mechanical engineering because the work can help make advancements in robotics, medicine, and computers. No engineer works alone and I believe that if I pursue my interests in this field, I will have the opportunity to make contributions to a vast array of fields.
During my interview, I spoke with Keven Carpenter, founder of Porticos. Porticos is a mechanical engineering firm which specializes in product development. From attending this interview, I learned that mechanical engineering can be both rewarding and devastating. For example, most of the time, mechanical engineers in product development do not get patents and projects are often discarded. However, there are instances where a project became implemented in everyday technology and becomes patented. According to Kevin, this is an overwhelming rewarding experience, that many engineers and unable to participate
I want to go to college because I know without a college degree, I would be going nowhere in my life. I want to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering; I have been dreaming about working as a marine surveyor since I was eleven years old. There are many reasons why I want to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. One reason why I want to become a marine surveyor, marine surveying is my dream job; another reason is as a kid growing up I have always found it fascinating to create things and inspect things. As a kid growing up, because of my interest in inspecting and creating things pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering is be perfect for me. I would be the first person in my family to go to college. College is my opportunity to make something of myself and actually get by and be happy with the knowledge. Also, I want to be a role model for my smaller brother, so he can see that a college education is important. My mother has big part in my choice of me want to go to college. I want to go to college so I can be able to be proud of me; to build a stable foundation, to achieve my goal of being a college graduate, and to prepare myself for the world.

Anybody and everybody can become an industrial machinery mechanic; especially, those who are passionate about getting their hands plastered in motor oil, grease, and other mechanical lubricants. These people will more than likely be ecstatic about getting into industrial machinery mechanics. They need to be able to put in one hundred ten percent of their effort into becoming an industrial machinery mechanic. An industrial machinery mechanic’s overall objective on the job is to stop a mechanical error before it happens. An industrial machinery mechanics are often caught repairing, maintaining, and fabricating machinery. They will be required to have certain education and training as well as some on the job training or complete an apprenticeship program. They will receive many benefits for working in this particular field.
The knowledge acquired in schools and colleges, I believe is not an education, but the means to it. It is this belief that made me a student to the end of my days, the obvious direction being curiosity to wards exploration.
Engineering has been a key interest of mine since childhood. While still in grade school I enjoyed listening to my father, an electrical engineer, teach me about advances in technology, and was always eager to hear more. I was introduced to my first computer at the age of five, and have loved interacting with them ever since. My decision to study engineering as a career was no surprise to those who knew me.
I am applying for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Solid Mechanics to expand on my study of and experience with materials. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Materials Science and Engineering as an undergraduate at UCLA. I now look forward to moving into graduate study in a field of engineering with a related, but different perspective. Materials Science and Engineering has allowed me to explore both materials and other fields within engineering, contributing to my strong interest in combining my study of Materials Science and Engineering with Mechanical Engineering. I have completed basic coursework in most areas of engineering, learning statics, thermodynamics, basic programming, and circuit design. This has provided a strong foundation to continue graduate study in other engineering disciplines. I
An ambition to learn and grow and having passion for engineering have prompted me to go in for graduate studies. Chasing my Dreams! While growing up at a young age I was always intrigued by objects that produced mechanical work and energy be it prime movers such as automobiles, construction and mining equipment, turbo machinery such as jet engines, space shuttles or complex mechanisms of mechanical watches, I used to spend a lot of time trying to learn and figure out their basis and propositions, it was necessary for me to explore my inner conscience to understand my fascination towards machines and their ingenuity, Mechanical engineering seemed a direct consequence of my convictions. I have always admired my father as a civil engineer and his hard work and struggles throughout his life; He has always been a role model for me. He motivated me to pursue my dreams so I decided to pursue my undergraduate study in Mechanical Engineering
According to occupational outlook handbook the annual pay was $83,060 as of May 2014. The highest amount earned was $126,430 and the lowest was $53,210. Although the consequent is that most engineers have to work full time and work about 40 hours a
It contains many possibilities, and unforgettable moments. Through engineering, one could easily obtain the satisfaction and joy. Thus, engineering has many lifetime opportunities. My top three lists would be self-esteem, social impact and the creative thinking. These three lists are unique and rare to find today. By becoming an engineer, these aspects can be achieved and I would take pride in so doing. First of all, self-esteem can be regarded as an important factor in every aspect of life (Landis 2013, pp. 57). It reflects the actions and feelings when dealing with people. The process is a self-evaluation, where a person can analyze his or her worthiness and capability through emotional means. The experience will be gained and the mature decisions can be made. This allows a person to be assured with most of the tasks. Hence, an engineer should be confident and experienced, which today’s society is in
Everyone wants to be something from a doctor to a stylist, I want to be a mechanical engineer. This is something I have always wanted to do in my life, the opportunities that exist in this field can lead to anything. Mechanical engineers are able to do many tasks in the job environment from designing, to developing, and also building. In addition, as new companies are starting up they will need mechanical engineers to help them develop their product. All of the engineering fields have great pay, that is able to support my family and also my parents. In the work environment of a mechanical engineer, they usually are around an office and sometimes where their product is being used at. To be able to apply for a mechanical engineering job you
Engineers are valuable assets to any company because they think analytically. Engineers may advance to become technical specialists or to supervise a staff or team of engineers and technicians. Some eventually become engineering managers or enter other managerial or sales jobs.
Mechanical engineering is a type of engineering which applies principles of physics and material science for the purpose of analyzing, designing, manufacturing and maintaining of mechanical systems (Gorp, 2005). It is involved with the production and usage of mechanical power in the operation of various machines and tools. Mechanical engineering is considered to be the most diverse engineering and has its breadth derived from the need to design tools and manufacture products which range from small individual parts to large systems. Mechanical engineering, as thought of by scholars, is related to Aerospace engineering, Manufacturing and Mechanical engineering (Van et al, 2011).
It has taken a very long time for me to decide on the path that I wanted to take for my career. I have almost always known that I wanted to be an engineer. I was always more interested in applying my knowledge to solve problems rather than just research and understand the world. However, I had little to no inkling as to which field of engineering I wanted to go in to. I had always been a dabbler, involving myself in a large variety of activities with the interest of learning about how stuff works. I started out learning how to use the tools in the shed outback, making pinewood derby cars and model rockets. I would help my dad with home improvement and repair projects around the house. As time went on, my ability learns and apply
