Being an American is not only being born here but it's also what characteristics you have to be an American. Being in America doesn't consider you to be an American it's the way you at towards other people and the lifestyle you are living and also the way you use the privileges that are given to you. The Unites States has past through so much for somebody to do disobey the law or make america look even worse. My way to define an American is with respect and proudness for the country. When living in the Unites States you interact with so many people from different races and countries. Showing respect to those people and the rough situations they've been through shows a lot of being an American. Racism is so common these days that
people will treat you with disrespect regarding your skin color or your language. An American will stand up for these people showing that color, gender or race has no borders in the United States. This truly defines an american as the way they are towards people and how they are proud that they came through the same struggles to be here in America. The lifestyle you live in America is the way how you are as a person. For example, whether you live in poverty or wealthiness defines how much you've been struggling to get there. If you live wealthy it shoes accomplishments and how much you've worked to get to that position. If you live in poverty either you've come from a different country and are looking to settle a life or you've lived here and threw it all away without education or knowledge. These struggles show how much you want to be living in the United States and how you want to succeed. Having a privilege means to do something somebody else can't or it can be a reward. The reason the United States gives this to us because in other countries they don't have the same rights as us. In other countries there is still a lot of violence and independence. We are lucky to live in America because we could have it worse in another country. Being privileged should not be taken advantage of it. Many should respect these privileges that are given to us because also many disobey it. Now in conclusion, being an American isn't just being born here it's the way you choose how to live here. Many people don't know what it means to be an American that's why there is so many tragedies here in America. Now my way of defining an American is a hard worker and respectful human being to a person. I am proud to be an American because not only was i born here but i also showed many traits that resemble to be an American.
To be an American is to be proud of your flag and country, to be willing to suffer for America, and to never be willing to give up.
People may be wondering about the point stated previously; well the meaning of being an American has a diversity of viewpoints. Constantly the Americans have face many challenges creating different point of view that could change the meaning of being and American; but the ability to improve common life, to have liberty, and to be a nonconformist with a rational thinking mind means to be an American as a previously being state in this argument. Discussing another point of view like Jonathan Edwards and Ralph Emersons have different from previous authors point of view. Jonathan Edwards is more like to a region person that life and dies for God at any cost because on his sermon he claim “But here you are in the land of the living and in the house
Americans are defined by the respect they have for their country and its government, in taking advantage of their freedoms and rights that they gain by showing respect through allegiance, pride, and loyalty.
America has always been looked at as “The New World” where people from all over come to fulfil their dreams. Their dreams may not have been exceptional, but only to have enough to survive, have a house where their children could be raised and feel free and protected. Now, according to Webster’s online dictionary Americanism is defined as a custom, trait, belief, etc., peculiar to the United States of America or its citizens, but to me it means so much more.
Americans can cherish their freedom of expression and are part of a diverse culture. An American is someone who would embrace freedom and liberty. Overall, to be an American, it is crucial to embrace the culture and become a part of it disregarding where you were born.
To be an American means more than just living in the country for a set amount of years. It means more than being granted citizenship, and more than just waving a Boy Scout American flag in your yard on Memorial Day. To be an American is to be free, and that is what we as Americans sometimes take for granted and forget. Being an American isn 't just living in the "greatest country in the world", there are plenty of other countries that say the same exact things. There are far less countries in this world, though, that are free, and have the American mindset. Not many countries employ so many freedoms and have the 'American dream '. The American mindset is not just something that

In conclusion, everyone has the chance for themselves to make their own definition what it means to be an American. Having the American Dream, otherwise being successful, you can choose how you view being American. As I have previously explained in this essay, I believe being American means that you are a proud patriot of your country and show some type of position in your country, having a voice in your country and using your liberties promised to you by the government. What is your definition of being an
An American is someone who is free to do whatever whenever he wants. He is someone who doesn't care about who judges him or what people think. All he cares about is his version of the American dream. His version may be different from everyone else's but an American has the freedom to be different in whatever way he wants to. This is what an American is.
Like any other country America has national symbols such as the American Flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the “Start Spangled Banner.” To be an American means that you support these things to fullest extent and hold them in the highest regard. This means that When the National Anthem is played or the Pledge of Allegiance is recited, it is our duty as Americans to stand, remove our hats and cover our hearts as a sign of the utmost respect. These symbols are a sign of our heritage. They stand for what we believe in, who we are, and where we come from. We are Americans. We believe in life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. True Americans speak the national language, English, and know that America is a one of a kind country that cannot be beat. We have worked hard over the years to become the wealthiest and the most prosperous country in the entire world. As Americans we have the right to drive a Hummers, the right to live in luxurious houses, because after all we’...
What does it mean to be an American? Over the years the answer to this question has varied so much, depending on the culture and influences of that particular time. Yet, I believe that what makes us truly an American is something that never changes with the decades. It isn’t like a fad, or the type of music that is most popular, being an American has to do with something so much deeper than that. So what makes a person American? I think that in order to properly answer this question we have to break it up into smaller, more easy questions to answer. So, let’s merely start with defining the word, American. According to Oxford Dictionaries as an adjective,
War, love, race, and the meaning of life all play huge roles in The Quiet American by Graham Greene and For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway. The depiction of Americans intertwined with the themes of war, love, race, and the meaning of life are quite similar, but at the same time very different. In Greene’s novel the depiction of Americans is seen through Alden Pyle who is young, inexperienced, naive, and careless. Alternatively Hemingway’s American character Robert Jordan is Pyle’s complete opposite being that he’s experienced and aware of the actions he does. Whereas Pyle fights against the native people; Jordan fights among the people. While both novels portray a similar idea of American 's self-righteous duty, through these two characters
The definition of an American, is someone who is a citizen of the United States. Many African Americans, and immigrants struggled to become actual Americans in their lifetimes, because others didn 't see them as actual people; and based it on the color of someone. In today 's world people who live in America consider themselves as Americans, but to me there is certain qualities that make a person an American. To me being a true American is not based off of what Country they were born in, or what race their parents are, or even if they were immigrated to the United States. People from all over the world would say that maybe people could base this off of someone 's family heritage, or where they were before they came to America. If you were asked what makes an American an American what would you base it off of? To me there are four specific characteristics that make a person a true American; those three things would be, freedom, individuality, belief in the country, and happiness.
Nationalism is extreme loyalty and devotion to one particular nation, and many Americans are nationalistic about their country. But even though they are loyal to America, defining what it means to be a true American is tricky. Being American is one complex thing, but the concept of being American can not be fully grasped. What it means to be American may in fact be one of the biggest mysteries of all time. Indeed, discovering what it means to be a true American could possibly take an entire lifetime. One thing, however about all true Americans is certain: we are all alike in that each one of us is different from the Americans in important ways. We are diverse in our backgrounds, races, and religions. Nevertheless, we are exactly identical in the we feel toward our country, even though we express our pride in a million different ways.
Being an American is more than just living in America, or being born in this country. Many people talk about being American’s and they aren't even in this country. Being an American is a way of life that people adapt into by seeing how we act. People all over the world eat the same things that we eat, so that can't really be a way of being an American. To me, being an American is embracing our ways of life, not fighting for the other guys, and loving our anthem and the flag.
