“If it doesn't challenge then it dont change you”, Fred Devito. My personal accomplishments and failures helps me see how I need to change and how I have changed. I had a lot of opportunities in my life some I took and some I didn't. One of them was going to middle school on the NC State University campus. At that school. It was really like an early high school experience atmosphere. It was a STEM school so the curriculum was hard and it was common core so math was even harder. We even got to meet the NC state basketball, football, soccer players. Another accomplishment is that I help kids who are in transition from homeless have school supplies and food for my community service. I had faced a lot of challenges and a lot
Many service projects have had an impact on my life, but the significant one is the time that our group put together Blessing Bags. The Blessing Bags were bags put together for homeless people. This project had an impact on my life because at one point in time, my family struggled. We did not have a stable home and we had to continue movie because of the living expenses. It is very difficult to buy many products that are needed for personal hygiene, especially if someone does not have a stable home. There are many people that live in the streets and it breaks my heart. Whenever I see homeless people, I give them what I can. Although my family did not become homeless, I could not imagine living in the streets without any food, clothing, or products
Q. Have you completed any community service or volunteer work? Where? What did you do?
developed a passion to emulate my grandmother’s desire to serve others. I volunteered at Church, visited
Involving in a national level campaign such as Pulse Polio Campaigns, in charge of arranging and dispensing the vaccines helped to reach a larger population. Coordinating and working as a team with different healthcare people helped to deliver a comprehensive care for my patients. Being the team leader for the non-profit charity providing financial help with free medications, and food helped me understand my patients beyond just the medical diagnosis, but the complex web of multiple factors in their overall health. I hope to use my experiences to continue working with community into my residency and also in my
One of the biggest accomplishments that I feel I have achieved is being a captain for my soccer team when I was in grade 9 (overseas). Back when I was in Ethiopia, soccer was one of the biggest things we loved growing up. Soccer was the only thing available as a sport in our school, so being a captain of a team was kind of a big deal. My time as a captain taught me a lot of things about what being in a position of power means.
When I reached high school I developed an Improv group by the name of The Stray Dogs in order to raise money for our hometown non-kill animal shelter, Lake County Animal Shelter. The shelter had recently made a statement how they were low on funds and unable to take in any more animals due to their supplies were almost nonexistent. Through putting on Improv shows a few peers and I were able to raise over $8,000 dollars and scout countless volunteers for the shelter throughout the course of four years. All of the money we made throughout doing four years worth of shows went directly to the shelter in order to empower, support, and strengthen the wellbeing of the animals and
In addition to my work experience, I have completed a 14 day trip to Malaysian Borneo to carry out aid work. This involved helping the local community to build clean water tanks and refurbish their homes. I was able to build relationships with members of the team to reach our common goal. This gave me a positive belief in my own ability while operating in an unfamiliar environment. This experience also helped me to foster my ambition to help
Something's that I went through that changed me and made me into the person I am today were some bad times and good times. Growing up I lived on Warren and I played football for the Detroit Titans. I had a stepsister and stepbrother that lived with me as siblings of my home. We did everything together as if we were blood. Playing football taught me to never give up no matter what the case was.
Last year I took part in an active community outreach at a shelter for five hours in Skid Row slum in Los Angeles. This helped me to connect with the people in the area and learn their way of living, understand their immediate needs and the problems that they face in their living environment.
As a child, I grew up in quite a unique environment, that involved suicide, an alcoholic parent, and eventually divorced parents. However, instead of allowing these things to hold me back from being successful I used it to my advantage. For example, I have lost a loved one to suicide which increased my emotional intelligence and made me become more humanitarian. I have been known to be one who is always there for others and giving back to our community through volunteering. My selflessness allowed me to become captain of my soccer and dance team because I was understanding when it came to others. I put others first no matter what because despite who it was I loved them as if they were family. Since the day I lost my uncle to suicide I have never let anyone walk away from me knowing they felt alone or they weren’t
One personal accomplishment that I am proud of is the fact that I fostered a baby some time ago. The baby had the fetal alcohol syndrome and with the help of my wife, I was able to make a positive impact in someone’s life and be there for the child when he needed me the most. The process of becoming a foster parent was not in my plans, but due to the need to keep this baby within the family, I stepped in and became certified as a foster parent. The process was long and sometimes it was challenging to meet the demands of the Department of Children and Families; such as classes, interviews, and homework while working two jobs. At the end, the reward of having the chance to be helpful to a person in need made it all worth it.
I became an official ambassador for the youth volunteer program. I worked with the WTA to introduce other students to the program and coordinated trailwork parties in my community forestlands. During my senior year of high school I acted as president of the Green Club, our school’s environmentally focused organization. As president, I worked with the members of the club, the community, and faculty to organize a rain-garden installation in our town. The project took a long time and a lot of footwork, but was finished due to the hard work of everyone
...ng student council at my school. We never had a productive student council until I came. When I came the first thing I wanted to do was to give back to the community like my idol, the person I look up to. I started a toy drive and wanted to raise five hundred toys for the needy children so they have a selection. I reached my goal and more, I received 786 brand new toys, and $100 dollars in donations to buy more toys. I had so much Triumph in my heart from my accomplishments because I know I did this in the likeness of God and followed in the footsteps of a righteous man.
As I went through camp I also did my requirements to move up in rank. Eventually after four years I got my Eagle Scout. To do this I had to complete many requirements, although the biggest project was my Eagle Scout project. This is an extensive community service project. I had already done countless hours of community service by helper other scouts with their projects, but it was finally my turn to have my own. Being in baseball throughout high school I decided to repaint all of the baseball dugouts. It took _____ many hours, but it was well worth
Throughout my high school career, I have been through many different activities, in and out of school. An activity outside of school in which I have been a part of was, having the opportunity to volunteer at the Cedar Bluff Branch public library. When I volunteered at the library, I had a leadership role for the first time of my life. My responsibility as a leader was making sure the books were straightened and nothing was out of order. Volunteering was a great experience for me, since it allowed me to become who I am today.
