In the story Percy Jackson, the Lightning Thief, a boy named Percy Jackson has to face a conflict that decides if he and his father, Poseidon, survive Zeus' wrath. At the beginning, Percy finds that odd things are happening after he vaporizes his math teacher, Mrs. Dodd, at a museum right before summer. After this grueling experience, he went home to find his mom not at home and smelly Gabe, his step-father, sitting there playing poker. Minutes later, Sally, Percy's mother, walks in and declares that she and Percy would be taking a vacation that same day. Then, she and Percy drove to Long Island and settled down in their cabins to sleep. At that time it had started raining and at midnight Grover, Percy's friend, started banging on the door.
Percy stranded and lost, amnesiac, and running from the gorgons, finds Camp Jupiter, the roman camp for demigods. He makes friends with Frank and Hazel. Together, they win Capture the Flag for fifth Cohort. Mars then claims Frank as his son and issues a quest to save Thanatos, the greek god of death, from LAceonus, a giant born to oppose Pluto, and issues Frank as the quest leader.
The struggle for power relates to the lightning thief because in chapter 20 Percy battles Ares . Percy Jackson stated, “My body thought for me . The water seemed to push me into the air and i capluted over him, slashing as i came down “.I chose this quote because it was the moment that Percy uses his power . “ All that meant was my mom really had been squeezed into nothingness, dissovled into yellow light”.” I was alone. An orphan . I would have to live with … Smelly Gabe?”.

Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief is about a young boy (around the age of twelve) who finds out that he is the son of the greek god Poseidon. Percy (short for Perseus) faces troubling situations that the reader can relate to and gain a deeper connection to the book. “How old was I?” I asked. “I mean. . . when he left”(Riordan 38). This quote gives some readers of the novel a personal connection through parental problems the world faces today. Riordan shows the hardship of being a single mother. This situation can connect to Jane Eyre by showing a want that both Percy and Jane want...love. With the connection to the reader as a foundation to the novels importance, it still does not exhibit value. Horn Book Magazine says “The novel is packed with humorous allusions to Greek Mythology...among with rip snorting action sequences, this book really shines” (Horn Book Magazine). With what Horn Book said about the novel it gives educational support that is taught in schools. “Rick Riordan’s (2005) popular Percy Jackson series for middle school readers provides a substantial link to greek mythology, utilizing Homer’s Odyssey and Lliad to create a window into classical texts” (Bright). By combining two complex and merit-able reads Riordan creates a novel that creates a stepping stone into harder literature to read and analyze. “Riordan

Percy is immensely brave. He is not afraid to do anything if it meant he could save another's life, like he
Rick Riordan’s ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’ focuses on Greek mythology and interprets this into a children’s story. Throughout the story, there are many references and adaptations to mythological tales, and each one is portrayed in a different way. Riordan writes this story as though Hercules, Zeus and Poseidon were still around today, and this would be the effect they would have on people in this day and age.
It follows the story of Percy Jackson, a half mortal and half Greek god due to his father, Poseidon, being the god of the sea and his mother a mere mortal. Already travelled on various quests to rescue other demi-gods, Percy spent his summers at Camp Half-Blood, where he met Thalia, Annabeth and Grover, who become his best friends and accompanied him on every mission.
Percy, Annabeth, and Grover went to Hades, in The Underworld to get Zeus’s master bolt back, thinking Hades had stolen it. “Return my property!” Hades shouted. “But I don’t have your helm. I came for the master bolt.” “You came here with it, little fool, thinking you could threaten me!” Percy had Zeus’ bolt all along in his backpack that Ares had gave him earlier, and had realized that he was set up. He and his friends went back to earth to find the missing items. “The prophecy was right,” I said. “You shall go west and face the god who has turned.” It wasn’t Hades; Hades didn’t want war among the Big Three. Someone else pulled off the theft. Someone stole Zeus’s master bolt, and Hades’ helm, and framed Percy. “Hey, kid,” Ares said seeming
Percy, the hero, who is not happy in his ordinary world, attends Yancy Academy, a school in New York City for troubled kids. He only has one friend, Grover, the trickster. He does love his mother and the color blue; however, his stepfather, Gabe, is described as smelly, disgusting, and mean. After school dismisses for the summer, Percy and his mother travel to the beach where they come across the Minotaur. As his mother races Percy
The first reason of this is because history in the past shows it. One famous individual during the late 1800s affect people in positive ways all across the county because of his achievements, his name was Abraham Lincoln. Abraham used his knowledge and skills to make this country a better place for all of us. The main thing that he did was free the slaves in the south and north. This achievment affected people all across the country. Even though this didn't work out at first it soon came out as a good result for all of us. This man also benefited to the country because of his high achievment until his death. This man served Amercica with great posture and without him we would not be where we are today. Another man in history who benefited from his achievements is The First President of the United States, George Washington. He led our country in the great Revolutionary
The first novel of the series, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief , is where Percy’s Hero’s Journey begins, encompassing the first five stages. The Ordinary World, the first stage, is the introduction of the main hero. “The hero, uneasy, uncomfortable or unaware, is introduced sympathetically so the audience can identify with the situation or dilemma” (Campbell). Percy Jackson, a twelve year old diagnosed with both dyslexia and ADHD living in New York with his loving, over-worked mother and abusive stepfather, begins his story attending a boarding school for “troubled youth” and having a less than spectacular time being the new kid. Despite his good intentions of protecting his only friend Grover from a bully, Percy gets in trouble at school and is pulled aside by one of his teachers, whom is revealed to be the Fury Alecto, one of Hades’s servants in disguise. It is at this point in the story in which the second stage, The Call to Adventure, comes into play. Percy defeats the Fury with the help of a centaur named Chiron, t...
Starting off at a normal teenager, Percy Jackson meets his true fate and is shaped into the hero the Fates have foreseen. Slaying monsters and saving the world is a normal everyday form him and is brilliantly projected through the eyes of Rick Riordan. The book follows the Greek mythology path and is the main basis for the entire series. Halfbloods doing the God's wishes is a common thing that has been going on for centuries in the Percy Jackson universe and sets a clear setting on how crazy this book will become. In Percy's life, he faces death, love, and hate and with that all combined it leaves you wanting more and more pieces the plot and the future that is set out before Percy.
During this marking period, I have read seven amazing books. Through reading these books, I noticed prominent themes and character development. The first book I read was Percy Jackson and the Olympians : The Last Olympian. In this book, Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena and a camp of greek demigods from Camp Half-Blood is in dire need to defeat the evil Titan Kronos before he destroys New York, the Gods, and eventually the world with his evil ideas. Long before this book though, there was a prophecy given by an oracle that stated that upon their sixteenth birthday, a child of the Big-Three (Poseidon, Zeus and Hades) would decide that would preserve or destroy the Olympians and the world. As a child of the big
Three days later, he wakes up in Camp Half-Blood, where Grover and Mr. Brunner - who is Chiron, the camp director – tell him that he is a demigod - half-mortal, half-god - but his godly parent is unknown. For this reason, he is sent to the Hermes cabin, which receives all the unclaimed demigods. During his time there, he befriends Luke, the cabin leader and son of Hermes, becomes an acquaintance of Annabeth, a daughter of Athena, and an enemy of Clarisse, who is a daughter of Ares. Through a series of events during Percy’s stay at camp, Poseidon claims him. However, just as the trident that claimed him fades away, a hellhound bursts into camp and sends the campers into panic, as these monsters supposedly are unable to enter. To protect the camp, Chiron sends Percy on a
