Have you heard the name Pep Guardiola before? Odds are you have if you’re a soccer fan. Pep Guardiola is one of the most influential soccer managers of the twenty first century. His long and successful career dates back to 1984, when he played for the soccer club FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona was and still is considered one of the prominent soccer clubs in the world. When Guardiola began playing at Barcelona he was only a teenager, he grew up around the club and would later made history at the club. When his playing days finally ended in 2006, he decided to try his hand in managing. One year after he retired as a player, Barcelona appointed him the head coach of Barcelona B, which is the reserve team for FC Barcelona. By 2008, he was promoted …show more content…
He said that he has to compensate for the lack in talent by hard work and sweat. One of his famous mottos that illustrates this is, “You don’t start out with talent, it only comes through education and training.” His goal to help shape players into the best versions of them self’s and to help them reach their full potential. He also plans each players role and the length of time they will play for, everything Guardiola does is calculated. Before big games Pep would have his team practice the strategies they had learned the week before. He assigns youth players to portray the oppositions players and then runs through drills were the first team players have to defend against the virtual rival team. I have never heard of a coach assigning players to opposition roles and telling them to demonstrate the abilities that the opposition players poses in order to have a better understanding of the threat that they pose and how to correctly defend against them. For me this is a very creative and in-depth idea and it demonstrate the amount of thinking and planning that Guardiola goes in to. I always thought that it can’t be that hard to manage these powerhouse teams. But it turns out in order to make them truly successful you have to be creative in your approach and have a lot of managerial abilities some of which we covered in class. The main one Pep uses is the ability to adapt. At Barcelona Guardiola primarily used a 4-3-3 formation, but at Bayern he proved to be flexible in his formation selection by not relying on a single formation. Pep also became well-known for changing the formation that he set his team up in based on his opponents' strengths and weaknesses. Within one season Bayern played using over 7 different formations. He also would change formation during the course of the match if he
In the video clip from the Remember the Titians shows how the coach at the very first stage forms a team by imposing them with certain rules and regulations so that they are so busy and focus on the daily activities and have a fear of loosing their position in the team which helped them to avoid various issues and conflicts with each other.
One example of this was that Super Bowl game against the Rams. It is hard to forget a game in which everyone was expecting an easy win for the Rams just like the game they won against the Patriots during the regular season. St Louis' team was a very good team. Their offence looked like it was flawless and unstoppable. However "Every offense has weaknesses" says Bill Belichick and for that Super Bowl game he definitely studied his lesson well. He made his defense concentrate on one player, Michael Faulk. On practice he chose someone from the scout team to be Faulk and made them run Ram's plays over and over again. In every play he kept yelling at his defense "Where is he? Where is he?" to encourage them to follow Faulk at all times. After a week of hearing the same yell before every play: "Where is he?" finally one of the defensive players turned around and yelled "Shut the fuck up" which even Belichick appreciated, because it meant they had it down.
I would describe Coach K as a great motivator. According to Daft in The Leadership Experience, motivation is defined as the forces either internal or external to a person that arouse enthusiasm and persistence to pursue a certain course of action. One would note Coach K’s ability to lead others to function at a high performance level and accomplish the goal. Moreover, you will find that Coach K’s goal is to meet the needs of his players first by treating them as a family member and encouraging his ...
If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, or go through it or work around it.” Michael Jordan. A simple quote, similar to the previous one, is what Rodrigo has to do in order to motivate his team to do whatever it takes to be two-time champions. The best model to win the championship will be the contingency model. First of all because Rodrigo already has the trust and admiration of his teammates because they chose him as the captain. Second, because the goal they are trying to achieve is straightforward; it can be summed up as WIN, WIN, WIN, there is no other way. Also because Rodrigo has legitimate, expertise, and referent power over his teammates, they will not doubt on trusting him as he has more experience that most of them, and he is such a role model to them that they don’t want to disappoint. (Spoiler alert: We won the national

Once Upon A Time is primarily a television series about various enchanted lands with actual people. Many of these enchanted lands have magic, giants and fairy tale characters known from stories viewers read and heard while growing up. Unlike the stories, these situations are really happening. Unlike in the stories we remember, these fairytale characters struggle to keep their "happily ever after." While the stories viewers heard growing up ended, the stories in “Once Upon A Time” are continuous. Rumplestiltskin, called Rumple, is one of the central villains in Once Upon A Time. The television show showed him plotting to cast a dark curse over the land called Enchanted Forest to try to reunite himself with his son, Baelfire (also called Bae). Enchanted Forest is tied to the newer town of Storybrooke. Rumple demonstrates various psychological and personality traits that will help us understand him as a villain. Rumple demonstrates narcissistic traits by being persuasive and constantly plotting. He displays selfish behavior, need for respect, and lack of sympathy for others sacrifices (Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders: DSM-IV., 1994, p. 661). This diagnostic list for Narcissistic Personality Disorder lists the main villain’s personality traits. I will reveal how Rumple’s actions fit this, and other, personality disorders.
As I have asserted, coaching is far more than winning or losing. A coach is an essential cog in shaping qualities such as sportsmanship, competitiveness, self discipline, and work ethic. A quality coach can build a player up while a bad coach can tear them down. My goal as a coach was to always leave the player striving to be the best they could be. A good coach
Having the opportunity to live with G.M. for a year now has made me observe her actions, the way she thinks, feels and acts. Her mind is very interesting in a way that she thinks quickly and has a positive overview on every aspect of life. She observes everyone in a particular manner and states what is on her mind at all times. If she thinks of something she will express her feelings and won’t hold back. She arranges her words in a way where she doesn’t want to hurt the other party’s feeling. She tends to interact with friends, family and colleagues in a friendly manner and never wants to leave any one out of the conversation. Her train of thought is very quick, she comes up with new ideas and demonstrates great intellect. She always

Throughout the book “Leading with the Heart,” I read about prime examples of the following leadership theories: transformational leadership, trait theory, behavioral theory, and situational leadership. He recommended that leaders begin with the trait theory when beginning the selection process when starting his or her organization. In chapter one and as well as chapter two, Coach K refers to coachable players. Meaning, players or members that do not mind being taught and learning; willing to take a back seat to someone else in charge. Establish right away in the first meeting the only rule for the team: “Don’t do anything that’s detrimental to yourself, because if it is detrimental to you, it will be detrimental to our program (Krzyzewski, 2000, p.4). He reiterates that leaders must be very selective in this process, because the people you select represent you as the leader, and your company. In some cases leaders must sacrifice some skill and talent for people who have outstanding character. “Character and respect will outlast talent when talent can’t see past themselves.” Krzyzewski mentions that he will sign a kid who has the character of a leader and train them to gain the skill necessary down the road. I believe that this is why the Duke Men’s basketball program is very successful because he picks
A proper coaching philosophy contains principles which improve character development, teach step by step tactical and technical skills, form proper progressive physical training regimens, and carefully utilize team management to handle and control problems with administrative issues. A coach with a sound philosophy should mold a team with strong cohesion, and he should treat players not only as teammates, but as family and friends who are encouraged to develop communication and lifelong learning of skills through positive support and role modeling from the coach (Mergelsberg, 14-15). The philosophy should also contain written documents of implemented strategies and techniques, so that the coach will know what to improve upon season by season

Any type of sporting coach could use individualized consideration factor of Bass’ Transformational Leadership Theory. While they need the team to work together to achieve a win, they also look at each individual player to help them get better and set higher goals for themselves.
Barcelona needed a spark. Something or someone that could rejuvenated the bruised and battered team. Many fans were hoping for a brighter future, and the newly elected FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, had promised it in the form of the world class midfielder, David Beckham. Laporta was not the favorite in the election, but the Beckham promise swung the vote in his favor. The only problem was, Laporta knew that Beckham had already agreed to sign with Real
