Healthcare is an evolving industry with a business side that equally compliments its human side. In recent years hospitals across the country have been shifting gears to meet deadlines and health measures predetermined by governing bodies. Often enough these targets are focused on profitability rather than the health of patients. One hospital that stands out amidst these controversies is Pennsylvania Hospital, known as the nation’s first hospital it has stood strong and has lead for generations. With a mission statement to “…improve the health and well-being of people through research, education, clinical care and community service.” (pennmedicine.org) the expectation to deliver the best car for patient and community are of highest importance. It is no surprise that when other hospitals across the country look to excel and innovate they turn to Pennsylvania Hospital to set standards in excellence. Pennsylvania Hospital prides itself staff volunteer rates, outreach programs as well as in their community events where its staff members are encouraged to donate their time to improve the health of all. Community events are held all year long including health fairs for women’s health, providing eye exams and eyeglasses for youths, charity events to raise awareness for many disease and outreach programs in area schools. The many resources and opportunities Pennsylvania Hospital provides honors its mission statement. Furthermore, Pennsylvania Hospital has been a leader in medical advances with numerous award for Cancer Center Excellence, Heart and Kidney Transplant awards and the Magnet Award for Nursing, the highest honor in nursing
