In seventh grade I experienced a great tragedy: my guinea pig died suddenly. I had Mr. Fluffy for two year and I loved him dearly. After he died, I was heartbroken for a very long time. One day my mom told me we were going to visit her friend Peg”s farm. I didn’t feel like going out, but my mom insisted. So, we drove for 40 long minutes to this big farm out in the county. There were cows, goats, dogs, cats, and even a few horses. Peg gave us a little tour of the place. I didn’t understand why my mom insisted I come to this, It was just a regular farm. Finally we went to the main barn. The first thing I saw was this tiny white and gray kitten, sitting all by itself. When it saw me, it came over and made the squeakiest little meow. Peg
That particular day, I left my den to go on a nice hike through the woods. Then I met her. Little Red Riding Hood came wandering up the path. She told me she wanted to go to her grandmother’s house, which was just down the path, but she was lost, so I, being the kind wolf I am, gave her directions. She thanked me and skipped off happily.
were many more animals in the farm. The movie did not show many animals except
Finally at the end of my escape to "Bookland" (as dumb as it may sound), I decided to go back out to my parents. My mom called my dad, who, unbeknownst to me at that time, was at the car getting our family’s jackets. She told him that she was going to take me down the boardwalk further, and browse more stores. After she hung up, we headed down the long line of shops and restaurants, pausing occasionally to walk inside the quaint, snugly side-by-side stores and browse their individual items on sale. Eventually, my mom got tired, so we found a bench to sit on and patiently waited for my dad.
It was a beautiful sunny spring morning, and we were on are way to Springfield for our 4th grade field trip. The bus was very splendid with huge windows and T.V.s, and the 4th grade teachers had put on movies for us during our ride. I was so excited for our day,we were going to Abe Lincoln's house, The Lincoln museum, where Abe Lincoln was buried, and a log cabin town where Abe Lincoln lived when he was little.
When my mom and dad got married their first housewarming gift was a tiny puppy. Through the first months of their marriage, this dog was essentially their first child. Sitting on the couch, Spike the dog, as large as he became, insisted on sitting on top of them. On Spike’s birthday, he would have his very own hat and balloons which he would flaunt in around the yard. Later my parents had my oldest brother and Spike was not getting the attention he needed. Sadly, my parents gave away a piece of their hearts to family friends who lived far away. To them, it was like experiencing the death of memories and a family pet even though they knew it would be the best choice. In Of Mice and Men a novel by John Steinbeck, the writer displays how taking the life of someone suffering may sometimes be a respectable
It was an ordinary Friday afternoon at the Smith house. As usual, I walked in the door after school to the sweet essence of a meadow on a sunny day. My two kittens, Gasper and Gus greeted as soon as I set foot into our house. I continued in as I sealed the bulky door behind me. I pleasantly trotted into the living room to find my mother, father, sister, Jane, and my baby brother, Billy all sitting on the brown leather couch. My mother greeted me as I walked in with, “Hello Sara, how was your day?”
Seven years later, in the eighth grade, my three year old cousin nearly drowned on my watch. The moment I found him, blue and unconscious, at the bottom of the pool, it was as if all the life had been drained from me as well. The only other moment I remember was the split-second
... little white mouse with red eyes from being fed to the snake my dad was watching for his friend. Most of my family loves animals.
It was a beautiful summer morning in Sunnydale. The birds were chirping, and the butterflies were gracefully flying in the clear sky. My parents and I got in a fight, so it wasn't so great. I hit my mom, because she and my dad were yelling at me really loud. Then my mom gave me two choices: to leave the house or go to my room for a while; I decided to leave, because I don't want to be like Rapunzel in that terrible room.
She told me of the old WW1 veteran she had met, and how he had survived a plane crash and fought his way to safety with three other soldiers that had also survived. I made sure listen in with enthusiasm party because she knew when I was not paying attention, and partly because I love history. We stopped by Speedway gas-station and we both got our favorite flavors of tea. Kylee’s was half and half, mine was peach flavored. She did always love making fun of me for liking peach flavored tea “That’s what the girl is supposed to get idiot.” She would say. So we walked back toward our houses, but this time we stepped through the small field that sits between Tractor Supply and our street. This path way was home to an area of beat down grass that has always been used to hangout or meetup. The kids who had lived here before us had handed it down to us for whenever we might need to get
It was getting about time for lunch so we decided to make grilled sandwiches. I am not a cook so of course I didn’t know how to make a grilled sandwich like Abi and Makenzie. With assistance from Makenzie I know how to make a grilled sandwich but, that sandwich that I made that day for lunch was the ugliest and most horrific sandwich I have ever seen. It was horrible. After lunch we decided that since it was such a pretty day we would go get Pelican’s snow cones. On the way back to Makenzie’s house we saw a rainbow and so we stopped and admired it for awhile. When we got back to Makenzie’s house we pulled out Daisy the golf cart.
Before the age of ten, I already experienced more loss than any of my peers. My maternal grandmother, with whom I had a very close relationship, passed away from lung cancer when I was seven years old. My paternal grandfather followed her two months later, dying from the same disease. With their deaths, I lost two of the people who cared for me most and I struggled with the void left behind in my life with their passing.
There we were, walking downtown. It was one of the few days I was dressed like I wasn’t straight off the farm, I had a dress and heels on. My mom and I were shopping while my sister was at piano lessons. And then we got the call that would turn our day upside down, inside out, and backwards.
Their farm was two hundred acres of corn fields, cows, pigs, and, of course, chickens. No farm would be complete without chickens. At the southeast corner of the farm, behind the smaller corn field, was the brook with clear cold water that reached past my knees. On most weekends my family would go to visit our friends, the Tailors, who had at one time seven boys to keep them company. All of them were grown with their own lives to attend to, except for Dan, who stayed on at the farm to help keep up the crops. His younger brother Dave still came back to the farm, from the busy city, to visit and bring his children to see their grandparents. Even though they were about the same age as my brother and I, we did not play with them because they were greedy and didn't suit our playing qualifications by continuously changing rules and cheating. It was rare that we encountered them anyhow, and that suited us fine. Most of the time we would stay the whole weekend. Our parent's elected to sleep in a tent, while my brother and I slept in one of the many cozy bedrooms of the farmhouse. We loved it there and secretly both he and I wished that we could stay forever. There were separate reasons why we loved it there.
One day my cousin Ashly and I decided to go to Mankato, Minnesota, to get a few things for her son’s upcoming birthday party. We stopped at my cousin’s house before we went shopping and we decided to go out to eat with Ashly, Candi and her husband and their son, along with two of their friends. I went on January 9th at around 2:30 p.m to the China Buffet. I will talk about the food part of the restaurant experience.
