Researching topics and journals is only the start of a foundation of what lies ahead for a doctoral student regardless of the type of degree. When conducting research, the student should look for scholarly articles and journals that are peer reviewed. I prefer to use Ebsco since that is what I started with when I began my journey. Effective research will blend in with the point you are trying to relay. When conducting research ensure your authority is truly a scholar with credentials to back the writing up. A respectable source is someone who also took the time and done research to back their opinions or theories.
When writing make drafts and barnstorm ideas onto the paper which can be revised as you go. When gathering information and journals to back the work compiled ensure that the latest and most current articles are used for reference. One can always be objective towards to topics being researched try to have an open mind and remain unbiased in order to let the facts dictate the outcome.

When writing papers ensure the information you present has relevance towards the topic at hand. Who is the Historian?, a book written by Dr. Nigel A. Raab on how historians go about “doing history” is separated in the many aspects that make up the art of history. In Chapter two titled “The Sources We Use”, Dr. Raab goes into detail on what types of sources are used in historical research, and why they are used. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the historiography of when and how types of formats were discovered and utilized in the Context of applying it to historical research. Whatever sources historians need to be objective and search any bias that my lie within it.
Scholarly writing is no different from all other writing, except, beside it having a purpose and having an audience like any other writings, scholarly writing is evidence-based (Laureate Education, 2012). In this manuscript, my quest is to address the questions cited above. As a scholar-practitioner, I am learning the sequence of properly researching a particular topic will add substance and creditability to any project I undertake. Considering scientists may choose to reference my work in the future, I am ethically responsible to adhere to specific codes of ethics and select the proper research tools which will do the best job of producing the data which best answers the research question at hand. In the book On Being a Scientist: A Guide to Responsible Conduct in Research (2009), the authors assume colleagues have meticulously gathered data, have utilized the best suited research techniques, have taken measures to present authentic findings and have given proper respect to the work of other scientists. Reynolds (2007) offers in his text mankind desires scientific knowledge to provide foresight for the future, understanding of historical events, and a comprehensive understanding of motives of past occurrences. With this information in mind it is my hope that any of my research efforts, the process of infusing new discoveries, would place an indelible mark on science and society.
