The thing about peer pressure is that it is not real. Or at least not in the way you’re probably thinking of it to be. Movies about high school overdramatize peer pressure as if it is the biggest threat to every teenager. These type of movies have peer pressure so backwards it is absurd. The movie “A Walk to Remember” presents kids that give into peer pressure as brainless. The characters act as if there is no escaping peer pressure and they want you to think it is the only thing to blame. Peer pressure in real life is much different than it is in movies.
Teenagers that give into peer pressure in movies are helpless, but teenagers that give into peer pressure in real life know better.

“Smoke this cigarette and you’ll be cool”. “Everyone drinks alcohol, don’t be lame”.
Teens today mock this this type of peer pressure. Its comical to them because they all grew up hearing these same cliches. Teens are far more educated on peer pressure now than ever before. This is due to the education systems and the many movies that were released on peer pressure. Teens are trained and ready to be in a stereotypical situation where they get offered some type of bad substance that is classified as “cool” by their classmates. Then, by script, they refuse and walk away feeling proud of their decision thinking that they passed the test.
However, when kids are old enough to face a situation like this, it doesn’t go the way they expect. As teenagers are trying to grow up, they want to discover the world because they are curious about it. They want to try things and they want freedom. If they find out someone they know is taking apart of some illegal matter. They might be a little surprised at first, but after a while it becomes accepted in their mind.
