Pedophilia. It is another form of child abuse which has always been an issue and now has increased in the last decade; as bad as it is, I am more interested in the why more than anything. What lifestyle and childhood did they have as a child that may have created the horrid sexual preference in children and is there any likeness they can change. I will be taking a look into the minds of pedophiles everywhere using pathos and logos. Maybe dive in a bit deeper into the minds of a pediophile using the information I have collected from articles I have read. There is a possibility something was missed, trying a new tactical strategy will be trying to approach the issue sympathetically in the hopes of better understanding them. Pedophilia is first
Megan 's Law is a law that was passed for kids being molested. “Child abuse laws exist on the federal, state and local levels. Legislation serves to keep children free from exploitation, harm, and danger. The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), passed by the federal government in 1974 and reauthorized in 2010 is the largest body of legislation with regard to the fair, ethical and legal treatment of children and is intended to keep them free from all forms of abuse including physical, sexual, emotional and psychological..As of March 2012, there are also 18 states whose laws require all citizens with knowledge or suspicion of abuse to report it the proper authorities. The law also states the penalties for failing to report abuse.
Child sexual abuse is an umbrella term describing offenses in which an adult engages in sexual activity with a minor or exploits a minor for the purpose of sexual gratification (NSPCC, 2016). The American Psychiatric Association states that "children cannot consent to sexual activity with adults," and condemns any such action by an adult as "a criminal and immoral act which never can be considered normal or socially acceptable behaviour" (American Psychological Association, 2016). Only at the beginning of the 1900s did Western society begin to value children as persons who’s "creative and intellectual potential require fostering" rather than "cheap labour" (Heller, 2012).
Pedophilia is defined as “an ongoing sexual attraction toward prepubescent children” (Tenbergen et al., 2015, p. 1). People with pedophilia are often described as a dangerous criminal. People among this category were considered as a category of offenders, by the criminal justice system, among the highest priority for the system to manage and maintain (Lynch, 2002). The differing views between psychologists and the criminal justice system has been a long drawn out debate. Pedophilia is considered a disorder in the DSM V, but by the criminal justice system it is viewed as one of the worst crimes a human being could commit, needing the most severe punishment.
Children who grow up being abused physically or mentally will develop problems and the response by children to abuse and neglect could manifest in behaviors of delinquency such as dropping out of school, drugs, alcohol abuse, sexual promiscuity, prostitution, self-mutilation, stealing and other crimes and offenses. It does not matter whether you are born into a wealthy, middle class or poor family; children who are abused commit most of the same acts of delinquency.
People who sexually abuse adolescents should not only be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but also be terminated from all children, even their own; because it robs the adolescent of their adulthood and their precious quality of youth, which not only causes them to grow up faster, but also causes damage to their physical and mental conditions. Sexual abuse is unwanted sexual abuse. There are different types of sexual abuse. Most people think rape is the only type of sexual abuse but the truth is there are different kinds but the kinds that will be discussed are molestation and rape.
On June 28, 1990, Mark E. Jones, a public school teacher from California, was charged with twenty-eight counts of lewd (lustful) conduct with four boys under the age of fourteen. Two of those boys, Sammy and Bobby, were his adopted sons and the other two boys, Andrew and Kenny, resided in the same neighborhood as him. Jones had oral intercourses with these children for two years before being arrested. In his trial, Jones denied the allegations and said that his two sons and Andrew were trying to accuse him of the molestation because he caught them performing the acts on each other (Jones). At the end of the trial, Jones was found guilty on twelve counts of lewd conduct, found not guilty of twelve counts, hung jury on three counts, and one count was dismissed before the trial. Jones was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Has your child admitted that someone in their life has sexually abused them, and you aren’t sure where to turn? It doesn’t matter if the abuser was a public caretaker or figure, or if the incident happened privately, you need legal protection and a legal consultation right away.
1. Define pedophilic disorder, being sure to describe the “typical” individual with this disorder. Second, describe a form of therapy that has been used with pedophiles.
According to Washington Statue ??Abuse or neglect? means sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or injury of a child by any person under circumstances which cause harm to the child?s health, welfare, or safety? or the negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child by a person responsible for or providing care to the child.? (N/A,2016). The signs of possible child abuse include, but are not limited to, sudden behavior change, untreated medical issues, difficulties in school, lack of adult attention, the child making excuses to stay away from home. Parents can also show signs, in the form of, showing little interest in the child, blaming the child for the child?s problems. The parent could ask the teacher to use severe punishment on a child and find harsh treatment acceptable and teacher must be aware of all the signs and must act. As a teacher, you are required by law to report child abuse. According to the Department of Social and Health Services (2016), here are some steps to follow when reporting child abuse.
In life, there are many crimes people can commit, but one of the worst ones is child molestation. It is seen as one of the worst crimes even to murders and psychopaths in prisons. World Childhood Foundation has created an unsettling image to show the public what these monsters see and what a gruesome crime it is. Childhood is meant to fun and full of encouragement, but when a child is molested it scares them for life.
As a child, there are a lot of things you look forward to. As a child I never had a worry in the world and most of my friends didn’t either. No one ever considers the fact that their child could ever be sexually abused, because most of the time there are no signs to it. A child can be abused in many ways but in my opinion I think sexual abuse is the worst. Child sexual abuse will effects a child for the rest of their lives.
One national study found that approximately 10% of the population experiences child sexual abuse; with 75% percent of that number coming from female victims (Perez-Fuentes, Olfson, Villegas, Morcillo, Wang, & Blanco, 2013). The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimated that 1 in 4 under-aged girls and 1 in 6 under-aged boys had been sexually abuse (Canadian Centre for Child Protection Inc, 2012). In 2013, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: Administration for Children and Families division reported that out of 52 states, 678,932 children were victims of CSA (Heisler, 2013). In other words, 9.1 children experienced CSA per 1,000 children; and 3,956 cases were in California alone (Heisler, 2013). Unfortunately, these are only estimates, as the rates could be much higher due to unreported cases (Perez,Fuentes, Olfon, Villega, Morcillo, Wang, & Blanco, 2013; Canadian Centre for Child Protection Inc, 2012; Heisler, 2013). Community resources in local churches are limited in order for victims to experience healing from the effects of sexual abuse (Bielefeld, & Cleveland, 2013; Vieth, Tchividjian, Walker, & Knodel, 2012). Many women look to their local church for assistance with dealing with issues of sexual abuse (Blake, 2011). But most churches are not able to provide sexual abuse support groups and do not have well-equipped leadership who are trained to provide such support (Bielefeld, & Cleveland, 2013; Vieth, Tchividjian, Walker, & Knodel, 2012).
I know they will judge him, but I want someone out there to realize that my brother was scared and did the only thing he knew how to. My brother was just as badly raped and tortured as the other girls he had raped. My father sexually and physically abused my brother. I shared a room with my brother and I know for a fact what my brother had endured growing up. I know my father tied my brother up, beat him with belts, burned him and anything else you can think of that qualifies as torture I'm pretty sure covers it. I just turned seven two months ago and my brother had just turned eleven a week ago. My brother came into the bathroom, but he was very quiet. I think the only thing he said to me was, "I'm going to have sex with you tonight." This shocked me and scared me, because from what my brother had told me, sex hurt the first time. Well after my bath my brother got me dressed and carried me to our room. He sat me on the bed and told me to strip. I was a bit shy but, nonetheless I stripped (Anonymous. 2011).
Your past affects your future, that is one idea that most people can agree upon. Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse develop symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and are unable to form positive working relationships. Having direct experience with Childhood Sexual Abuse survivors has caused reason to question developmental traits that occur initially after the abuse as well as the long term effects the abuse has on the victim. Please consider that all samples, case studies and other research used in this essay come from victims of CSA that have self-identified as being either survivor or an abuser. According to The National Center For Victims of Crime, nearly 30 percent of children between the ages of fourteen and seventeen have been victims
Did you know it is more likely for a child in the United States to be victimized in their own home than on the streets (The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault)? Child abuse is an issue that is often swept under the rug, but it is in indeed a very serious concern for growing teens in America. In the United States alone, one out of five girls and one out of eight boys have been reported either sexually or physically abused (The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault). Child abuse is detrimental to growing teenagers because it can cause increased risk of mental disorders, damage growth for developing brains, and it can even take the lives of teens if not stopped. Teens who suffer from child abuse will resolve this issue and
