Pediatrician Personal Statement

I was first introduced to medicine by my older cousin, who at the time wanted to be a pediatrician. Her love and dedication for the field of medicine inspired me to want to become a pediatrician as well. As time progressed, my passion for medicine grew, until I entered college. I contemplated if it was truly my calling. This was a time I struggled inside and outside of the classroom due to lack of drive and motivation to succeed. It was not until my senior year when I discovered that being in the medical field was still my destiny. This was the year I learned how to effectively communicate, show attentiveness, and have empathy for others. I became certified November 2015. This was the happiest day in my life because I was a step closer to being in the medical field. What made me even happier was the day I became employed. I worked as a CNA at Pettigrew Rehabilitation Center, and I loved it. I was excited to put on my scrubs every day, knowing my dreams would soon come true. From this experience I gained patience. I was taught that every patient cannot be treated the same due to individuality. I learned when it was best to work alone and when to work as a group. Although working as a CNA was a valuable experience, I resigned due to my focus on school, volunteer opportunities, community service, and a part time job I previously had. In addition, I had to complete shadowing requirements as a prerequisite for PA programs. I shadowed a wonderful PA that works in a private physician’s office. She taught me a lot about the daily activities of a PA and educated me on how to approach patients. Also she instructed me on how to effectively communicate with patients, whether giving positive or negative news. As a result, this PA has been a light in my life, and I truly appreciate her for guiding
