I would like to pursue a career in pediatric occupational therapy with a double major in Spanish. I enjoy helping others through community service all over the world and want to combine all my interests together. Being able to travel around the globe to help those in need of occupational therapy is one of my major goals. I want to make the world a better place little by little and would be honored to offer my expertise to those in need, that don't have the resources or money to seek an occupational therapist. I have always been interested in working with children. Becoming a teacher has always been a potential career path for me; however, I recently discovered the position of a child life specialist which has further broadened my interest for a future career. Although they are not educators in school, they are extremely important since they are the educators for children and their families to help overcome difficult and/or challenging life events. As a child life specialist I will be teaching children and families in hospitals how to cope with their diagnoses, how a surgery day will go, how certain lifestyles will have to change, and much more.
Becoming an Occupational Therapy Assistant has been an ambition of mine for several years now. After researching, job shadowing, and talking to professionals, I have decided to make Occupation Therapy my career. My passion is to help patients by participating and assisting them in their recovery from injuries and disabilities. My compassionate and caring attitude will be vital assets in pursuing this career. After training in Occupational Therapy, it is motivating for me to know that I will be a part of assisting patients to gain back their independence. Helping others is something that I am passionate about in my career and in my spare time. I have been on several mission trips to Haiti and other places which I have provided care for others in a medical setting.

Some of these different populations can include different types of backgrounds, genders, ages, economic statuses, ethnicities, and more. While working with these populations, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistances have to be aware of different types of influences that can not only affect the client, but the client’s occupations as well. To utilize theory effectively, it is essential to differentiate between generic and specific theory as knowledge of the core theory helps to form OT identity and action as a practicing practitioner. Occupational therapy has a multifaceted nature providing endless opportunities to serve a wide range of people within many environments, which is just one of the reasons I love this occupation. A goal I have acquired in my life is pursuing a career in the medical field, particularly becoming an Emergency room registered nurse. As a young child, I always have had the interest of not only human anatomy and the disorders of the human body but caring for people in desperate need. I loved the gratitude from helping people and I desire to be able to make a good difference in people’s life and help them on in life.
I’ve always wanted to work with children, but I never knew what my choice was going to be, because there are so many professions. I believe a Pediatric Nurse is a good choice. Growing up I have always had an interest in kids, especially infants. I’m just so fascinated about how something so small can grow inside of a woman and become an adult one day. I know there is so much more I can learn from the world. One day I would love to travel and help the children all over the world. I was born and raised in Bacolod City, Philippines. Since May 2002, I have been practicing as a licensed physical therapist in the State of New York. During my first five years as a licensed physical therapist, I was assigned to various outpatient clinics for I was under an employment/staffing agency. After I finished my contract with them, I worked in a skilled nursing facility/sub-acute rehabilitation/long-term acute care hospital for three years. Now, I have been working in an acute care hospital where we rotate to different areas such as cardiopulmonary, acute rehabilitation, cardiac ICU, medical and surgical ICU, neurology, orthopedics, vascular, oncology, medical and surgical floors, pediatrics, and outpatient.

In the nursing atmosphere, you get to deal with many numerous aspects of patient care ensuring variety and the opportunity to juggle more than just one kind of task. I feel strongly that this type of work would be extremely satisfying for me.
