After taking PED 116, I learned a lot about myself and how to properly take care of my body. The most interesting lesson we did in lecture was the PowerPoint about nutrition. It was really eye opening to me seeing the number of calories and fat in most restaurant meals. This class has made me more aware of the things I eat. What I though was healthy, like a salad, could have just as many calories as a hamburger when you add dressing and other toppings to it. As a college student, it is sometimes hard for me to go for the healthy food options. Sometimes I am so busy, I would go to the drive thru instead of planning ahead and packing an apple in the morning. What I learned about myself is that my eating habits during the weekend are significantly
When it comes to the topic of eating healthy, most of us will readily agree that we all need to. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the question of how and why. Whereas some are convinced that we don’t need to all be eating healthy foods that are over priced to stay healthy, and others maintain that there is no other way. Bill Gifford talks about a proper diet throughout the book, but one chapter in particular really stands out when it comes to how diet affects our bodies and ultimately our heath. In the chapter Phil Vs. Fat, Gifford tells a story about a man who beats all odds when it comes to changing his life. Our new friend Phil was morbidly obese and had become highly diabetic. Through exercise and eating a more refined diet, he was able to completely reverse his body and his health. Gifford continues to emphasis on Phil’s great feat when he writes, “The doctor was astonished: Bruno’s insulin resistance was gone, his blood values
Ranked third by U.S. News and World Report on the list of “Best Health Care Jobs of 2017”, the Physician Assistant career has a 96 percent job-satisfaction rate, and represents one of the fastest growing jobs in the nation. Created as a position to relieve the job shortage of primary care physicians, Physician Assistants first came to be in the mid-1960s. Since then, the number of PAs in practice has just about doubled with every decade helping to improve health care not just nationally, but on a global level as well. Physician Assistants are licensed to practice medicine, prescribe medication, treat chronic illnesses, and assist in surgery in all 50 states under supervision of a physician. Although some medical practitioners perceive the role
Nutrition, I have learned plays a big part in our life. To be honest I was clueless about how much nutrition affected our everyday lives. I love going to the gym working out, now that I know what should go into my diet I think I will see a lot more improvement. I occasionally follow the latest diet fads because I believed it would be better for my health, but in turn it really hurt more than it helped! This Diet Analysis project has been extremely useful course because I can personally relate to it and can use much of the information learned to my daily routines. The Diet Analysis project was a real eye opener because it let me see what exactly I was putting into my diet.
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are the extremely traumatic events that take place in an individual’s childhood that negatively affect their future attempts to succeed in life. ACEs include enduring physical and verbal abuse, living in dysfunction and over exposure to violent and criminal behavior. It was determined that children who are in the child welfare system are more likely to suffer ACEs and develop physical and mental health issues as well as engage in risky behavior (Brown & Shillington, 2017); children who suffer ACEs also have lower self-efficacy than other children. In all of the research prior to this study, much of the focus was on the psychological and behavioral outcomes of ACEs and what children were more susceptible to them. The problem that the researchers in this study have identified is that in no prior research has anyone

Abraham and Mira warnes in 1988 that health educators and health professionals should weigh up carefully the benefits of weight loss against the risks of inducing psychological disturbances such as eating disorders and adverse physiological side effects such as dieting and severe weight loss…(37)(ajn).
Nutrition and physical activity are important aspects as they improve health and reduce chronic diseases. In June of this year my family physician placed me on a doctor assisted weight loss program that enabled me to eat my favorite foods but in appropriate proportions and in heathier ways. The best part about Supertracker is that it gives me wonderful tools to support me in understanding and meeting my goals. Once I created a profile through Supertracker I was provided a personal plan to follow including the amount of grains, vegetables, fruits, and protein I needed to be successful. For three consecutive days, I entered my food and activity intake into Supertracker and was able to analyze the excesses and deficiencies
Throughout this position paper there are some key recommendations made by The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics about how to improve the diets and nutritional status by specifically using the total diet approach.1 One key recommendation is that nutrition messages tend to be more effective when they are focused on positive ways to make changes overtime, opposed to listing specific foods that are to be avoided completely.1 Foods should also not be labeled “good” or “bad” because it can result in negative attitudes and poor judgments.1 Instead of having people cut certain foods out of their diets completely it is more effective to teach the concepts of moderation and proportionality.1 This position paper also mentions programs that already support the total diet approach such as MyPlate, the White House’s Let’s Move campaign, Nutrition Facts labels, nutrients intake recommendations, and Healthy People
...e completely healthy attempting to avoid my punishment and then there were days where I ultimately caved and failed at eating well. On those days, I followed the rules I set in place and worked out as I said I would that evening. Part of the time my boyfriend would inevitably cause me to falter by cooking a nice fattening meal, but I don’t blame him at all considering it was up to me to make the decision to refrain from eating it. I probably didn’t do as well as I could have around lunch time or dinner but I’m glad at the fact that I did keep away from sweets and snacks throughout the entire week. I was really intrigued with getting good results for this project so I tried my hardest to actually follow the program set. Even if I don’t keep with this change after the project it’s very comforting to know I CAN eat healthy when I want and I CAN workout if I need too.
Padre Pio, also known as Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, was a very humble Capuchin. A capuchin is someone who gives priority in their ministries to the two loves of St. Francis’s life, which are serving the poor and preaching the gospel. Through life we have many different stages to where we are either settling down for a nice home cooked meal or we are constantly on the go, running around our hectic lives, eating very unhealthy foods. Especially in our college years, students are always on the go running to and from class grabbing a burger and fries from a campus restaurant or eating the microwaveable foods like ramen. Many people try to eat healthy, but always succumb to the stereotype that eating healthy is expensive and takes too much time. This is a common misconception because there are ways in which anyone can eat healthy and on a budget as long as they eat proper portions, eat the right kind of foods, and excessive.
As a full-time student, full-time worker, and a young mother of three years old daughter, I don’t have time for myself. I spend all my daytime at work, and then I am taking classes at night time. I don’t pay attention to the nutrition much because I have lacked time to prepare it, so my favorite foods are fast foods. My spare is only to only do my assignments. I have never gone exercise, and I usually sleep less than seven hours for the day. Therefore, having a lack of sleeping totally affects to my energy, so I cannot focus on working as well as being in class. Therefore, after reading this required text book, I understood the importance of nutrition, sleep, and exercise are to maintain my health, so I changed my mind. Next semester, I will take only two classes at Pacific Oaks College, and I will spend more time to learn and cook healthy food. When I have time, I will go exercising with my daughter. Therefore, these new concepts are helping me to change my life
I feel it is very important to take care of yourself and a true responsibility to strive to be healthy. It is certainly something very personal, and that is what I really like about working towards this goal. There are not many short cuts and what you accomplish is usually measured in nothing more than hard work and proper habits. These habits are either natural to you or often times they are things that you have to acquire along the way. This is what this class did for me in many ways, it focused on important lifestyle techniques that I either already have or ones that I need to work on and try to incorporate into my everyday life.
College; it can be a scary, yet exciting journey. While intimating, it can provide a chance to get out of one’s comfort zone, and through the experiences one can be slowly pulled out of their hometown bubble. For example, living with a new roommate, navigating through campus, or dealing with time management all contribute to a challenging adjustment. However, one of the biggest concerns college students experience is the struggle of maintaining one’s health. While staying fit throughout college is an arduous and demanding task, it is vital for students to be conscious of the dangers of inadequate fitness and personal wellbeing. The problem of poor health in college students can be overcome by the general
Being a nurse, mother, and a Pre-med student has impacted my health to a degree that falls on the negative side of wellness. A personal goal that needs to bring about change in my personal daily routine is the adding of fruits and vegetables to my snacks every day. This new food plan will included two double size portions of vegetables and on double size portion of fruit. The required need for this change in daily food routine has come about due to the noticeable change in lack of energy, concentration, and overall health.
