Emma Watson once said “It is time that we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals. We should stop defining each other by what we are not, and start defining ourselves by who we are.” Society tends to separate men and women into categories but the truth is we’re not. To have the world evolve and the future to be bright for generations to come changes must be made. Women and men need to be equal. In order to make women equal to men women should be given the same rights and respect as them.

Despite the plans a women has workplaces assume that they will have children at some point in life. “Even young women and women who have no intention of having children feel the labor market effects that result for uneven divisions of household labor.” (Cunningham-Parmeter 5) Some women have absolutely no intention of having children for whatever reason. Other women simply cannot have children even if they want them due to medical complications. Women and men can earn close to the same amount of money as long as the woman doesn’t have children. As soon as a woman has children the pay gap between men and women becomes wider due to childcare, parental leave and career advantage converge. (Cunningham-Parmeter 10) Women are already paid less than men but then it gets worse when they do what they are biologically meant to do. There is no reason for that. Men and women need equal pay due to the fact sometimes the woman is the one supporting the family. “If women received special protection for the unique burdens placed upon them by pregnancy, for example, sameness feminists feared that such legislation would only fragilize women and reinforce existing biases against them.” (Cunningham-Parmeter 21) Women need to have some protection for when they have children. But with the protection comes more biases against them. If men could have children the protection would be in place already but with the fact that most men think women are weak and need the protection because of that women won’t get it until the genders are
