It was a normal day at Paul Wilson Public School. The grade four French-immersion class was in the middle of their second period, which was math class. They were all very bored because they were doing their times tables, and their teacher was making them do it over and over. How do I know? I was in that class! Normally, I could hear the kindergarten class playing outside, but today it was very quiet. Suddenly, I heard the principal’s voice on the announcements. “Attention, students,” he said. “I’m afraid that Waterloo is in danger of being—well . . . of being hit by a meteorite. Buttt . . . as long as we stay inside, we will be okay.” As soon as everyone heard that, there was total panic. People started to worry about their homes and parents.
In Concord, Massachusetts, Eddy Hall, an eighth grader, on his birthday got a new bike. He left it on his front porch through the night. Next morning the bike had vanished, this disappointed Eddy because he knew that his aunt and uncle could not afford to buy another bike. Eddy wanted to find out who did this. While he was at school, his aunt received a box from India. It had an old bike that once Eddy looked at he rejected right away. A couple of days later he decided to look at his bike from his distant uncle. He looked at its speedometer, but it was not one, it was a clock. Then by his characteristic of curiosity, he looks closer on to the clock and finds two dials that say: DAYS and YEARS. He looked at the tag on the bike and he noticed it said “The Time Bike.” Next Eddy shows the theme of the story by trying to take the easy way out and jump finals week so he can graduate 8th grade. Then he finds out that he fails every class, which then makes him go to summer school.
At 9:30 am, observation last 10 minutes. Kevin was in the sink area. He just finished washing his hands. The teacher called Kevin to go sit in circle time. All the other children were already sitting down in the carpet area.
January 12, 1888, a blizzard covered the northwest part of North America that claimed many lives. This blizzard was considered to be the worst blizzard of all time, and was dubbed the “the Schoolchildren’s Blizzard”, for claiming the lives of so many school children on their way home. The death toll of this murderous blizzard rose, because of lack of preparation and being uninformed. During this time, many farmers and families were unprepared to survive a blizzard of this magnitude, by the lack of clothing they wore. Forecasters were not as accurate enough to inform people on the weather conditions. Also, shelter was a major factor in protecting themselves from the winter storms, but the shelter was not stable
The organization I work for is a nursing home management company. That’s the simple definition. Health Services Management Group manages of the operations of eleven (11) skilled nursing facilities (SNF), and three (3) home health agencies (HHA). Each of the SNFs and HHAs are operated/licensed by a single purpose entity. Of these long term care providers, one (1) SNF and two (2) HHAs are operated as non-profit organizations. The purpose of the non-profit providers, ultimately, is to fund The Trousdale School. “Trousdale School serves high functioning adults with intellectual disabilities, providing academics and life skills for the purpose of learning independence.” 1
6th grade was not all that bad. That is before the incident however. Going to school was fun for the most part, the classes were difficult, friends were plenteous, and the food was good. Life at Lancaster Country Day School was swell, again, before the incident. Now, said issue somewhat killed my image at the school and saved it at the same time; it also made me question others. Were my friends really my friends? Or did they use me to as a sick and twisted way to formulate drama? I had a friend. I had many friends really, I was friends with the whole 50 people in my grade. But this friend, this friend was different. Her name Mady Gosselin. Yes, the Mady Gosselin from Kate Plus 8. We had been close, I talked to her almost every day. However,
Ms. Ferenzci is an odd person, because she sits with Tommy’s class instead of sitting with other teachers, and ate unusual food. She said during math class that six times eleven is sixty eight.(pg.47, l.158-176.)

The most pressing issue in today's urban public school system is the decayed state of the environment in which students are forced to learn. The scenes are nightmarish, "One would not have thought that children in America would ever...
In Jane Tompkins, A Life in School: What the Teacher Learned, Jane uncovers flaws in the American education system and how poorly formal education prepares pupils for careers after schooling. She describes how her teachers at P.S. 98 used authority to form the person she is now, teaching at Duke. Her experience dabbling in alternative teaching methods established the path she took throughout her career. Although Tompkins experience is atypical of most students, I agree with her argument about how fear is a successful means of motivation for those that can succumb to it, but alternatives exist that have been demonstrated and are successful.
The School by Donald Barthelme is a short story that proposes the significance of life in front of its reader in the most absurd way possible. Fiction is a story that is not true whereas non-fiction is a tale based on real time. But what genre would best suit this short story by Donald? A fiction because it seems so unrealistic and depressing or a nonfiction because it conveys the true message of life through unusual occurrences of the deaths and life. The School should be considered a non-fiction because it states death is inevitable, life is unpredictable and love is all we need.
When I got home that afternoon, I turned on the television to see if there was anything on the newsMany of the local news stations were at the school, and they reported that there had been a bombthreat. This scared me. It had been only a mere ten months since the tragedy in Littleton, Colorado atColumbine High School. Even though I knew that it was most likely somebody just playing games, I stillhad to think of the worst. We were allowed to return to the school that evening to pick up our cars.
The sounds of the news is constant for students trying to keep track of the meteor. More annoying than anything in college. The meteor will hit the school, so? It’s not an extinction level event...Ok, it might but I’m not running just yet we still have five months of school so that means by the last day of school it will hit.
In the distance, the ringing of a phone can be heard as fog drifts over the playground. Through the mist and fog, a boy can be seen climbing onto a roof, collecting his ball. He climbs as sure-footed as a cat and ignores the warnings from his peers. Hurried scampering is seen, as students scurry into the building hoping for warmth and shelter. There are some, though, who brave the conditions and continue to go about their business like warriors.
A storm was current and a loud, booming sound was fructifying. Students were being corrupted with anxious thought of their homes being destroyed by the lightning. “Sit down in your seats!” the teacher exclaimed, as a school administrator wheeled in an old television on a cart.
My school day treated me well and I was beyond ready to go home and play with my friends at the park. But, I just HAD to make one of the biggest mistakes in my life…or was it really that big of a mistake?
