It was a normal day at Paul Wilson Public School. The grade four French-immersion class was in the middle of their second period, which was math class. They were all very bored because they were doing their times tables, and their teacher was making them do it over and over. How do I know? I was in that class! Normally, I could hear the kindergarten class playing outside, but today it was very quiet. Suddenly, I heard the principal’s voice on the announcements. “Attention, students,” he said. “I’m afraid that Waterloo is in danger of being—well . . . of being hit by a meteorite. Buttt . . . as long as we stay inside, we will be okay.” As soon as everyone heard that, there was total panic. People started to worry about their homes and parents.
