Many people who have succeeded in life have faced hardships. Hardships give people the opportunity to overcome difficulties and came back stronger. That is why hardships can strengthen a person. For example, Paul George was faced with a gruesome leg injury. Many people believed that Paul would not be the player that he once was. However, after about a year of recovery, Paul was turning heads with his outstanding performance on the court. Now, Paul George is considered one of the best players in the league. Paul George worked twice as hard to come back from his hardship. In the end, all his hard work payed off as he came back twice as stronger. Like Paul George, Dre in the movie The Karate Kid faced some hardships. Dre used to
get beat up all the time by Cheng. He then realized enough is enough and he looks for help. He then looks to Mr. Han for help. With Mr. Han, Dre grew stronger day by day. Finally, he stood up to Cheng and beat him in karate. If Dre wasn’t faced with the challenge of Cheng, he would have gotten stronger. . All in all, hardship can definitely strengthen a person. When someone is faced with a hardship, it is their job to overcome it and conquer it.
Adversities are often given a negative connotation and view, as most consider them to be hurdles which impede progress. Nevertheless when taken in and accepted under a positive light, adversities can serve as stepping stones through which an individual can better their character. In the face of looming obstacles individuals who persevere come out of the situation as stronger, determined, and more hopeful for the future.
Unfortunately like all the other sports I am apart of, basketball has its own fair share of injuries while participating during the sport. Unlike soccer, I have not experienced as many sport related injuries, but none the less, I have my fair share. Throughout all four years of high school, I still have to fight and take caution of my weak right ankle. It is because of my ankle that my basketball career has taken multiple catastrophes. For every time I land on my ankle in any that I see as a danger to my ankle, I immediately have to call myself off the court and miss valuable practice and game time. Plus, every time I step foot on any basketball court, i must have my ankle tapped and I must wear a brace. Not only must I worry about if my ankle will finally give out, I also have to worry about pulled muscles, strained back, bruised body parts, sore limbs, and even headaches from getting bashed in the head from an elbow every now and then. Finally the worst injury of all, being dropped dead tired and still having over an hour left in your practice. But after read The Glass Castle, I always think of a saying that Jeannette Walls’s father always told her, “ Things usually work out in the end. If they don’t, then you haven’t come to the end yet.” This saying has taught me that no matter how hard something seems to be, it all will eventually work out in the end and the good times
Michael Jordan can say he has had an amazing career and accomplished many things in his life. From his childhood to adulthood, he has done remarkable things. Most people hope to have a life and career like
The famous retired basketball player Michael Jordan sees eye to eye with Gladwell vision of success. According to Michael Jordan “ I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career.I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 Times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again that is why I succeed.” by using facts and figures Michael Jordan highlights all his failures and how he grew from them and that to get to success you need work and
In the movie, The Karate Kid, Mr. Miyagi gives this small, yet powerful piece of advice to Daniel LaRusso as he trains Daniel for the fight of his life. The Karate Kid centers on a teenage boy named Daniel LaRusso who moves to California and faces the difficult task of fitting in. However, a belligerent gang of karate students called the Cobras begins to bully him when he strikes up a relationship with Ali, the Cobra leader's ex-girlfriend. Wanting to fight back, but afraid of the dangerous gang, Daniel asks his handyman, Mr. Miyagi, to teach him karate. Overall, The Karate Kid is a movie about inner strength, self-control, and humility. As Daniel goes through his journey, he learns that arrogance and an unwillingness to learn from others
The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
In life, we face negative experiences that can either make or break us. In the film “Rudy” we see that Rudy did not let the negative times in his left break him, he kept trying and was resilient. He established a goal of going to Notre Dame and did not let the obstacles get in the way. Even though he failed into getting into Notre Dame, he kept trying until he finally got in. In life one negative experience I had was when my brother told us he was moving to Ohio to be with his girlfriend. I had to find resilience through embracing change, creating a strong social network and being optimistic. Like Rudy I had to overcome obstacles and I did so by building resilience.
I think that is why I was humbled because my situation could be worse. I became more and more appreciative and learned that my world wasn’t ending; my world was just changing. I learned that I had to adjust to change in order to position myself for future success. I had to see different perspectives and open myself up to new ideas. Also, I had to fully accept the fact that things were changing for me. I now realize that change is good sometimes because it introduces you to new opportunities and experiences. Instead of playing basketball 24/7, my injury gave me exposure to different interests that I would have never experienced before and will never
A person’s character is developed by the surroundings around them as well as their experiences. The Roman poet Horace quotes “…Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents in which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant…” I agree with the Roman poet, Horace, in that adversity has a way of waking talent from slumber. Adversity can encourage people in ways success and wealth cannot, as there is a benefit in the hardship. In Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot, as well as Macbeth, by Shakespeare, adversity has developed the characters. From my observation, I strongly agree that experiences, such as hardship and danger, shape a person.
In conclusion, to the above points, anyone is capable of triumphing over adversity. No matter how hard the circumstances are, each individual is able to. Unfortunately for some, they lack the need to triumph and in the end fail to beat adversity. Passion and commitment is all it takes to knock down those barriers and succeed in life. “Become the person you have always dreamt of being”.
“If somebody says no to you, or if you get cut, Michael Jordan was cut his first year, but he came back and he was the best ever. That is what you have to have. The attitude that I'm going to show everybody, I'm going to work hard to get better and better” (Magic Johnson). The quote above couldn’t be any truer. Michael Jordan epitomized that. Jordan is an influential person of the 20th century because of his determination to play, success in the NBA, and the legacy he left.
“Even though we face difficulties of today and tomorrow I still have a dream”- Martin Luther King.At times human beings face difficulties in life. These difficulties can either change us for the better or the worse. In the novel “The Outsiders” by S.E.Hinton we see how different people deal with different difficulties in their lives and how they’ve learned and grown from those experiences whether it would be positive or negative. People learn and grow from challenges and often people change from these experiences.
“I had a lot of growing up to do . A lot of times, I learned the hard way.”(brainyquote.com). The quote above is said from a guy who has always been in and out of the thorn bushes, Allen Iverson. Allen Iverson, one of my inspirational athletes, is an amazing man who always knows how to keep his head up when negative things come his way, and that is something that I like most about this guy. He has gone through hard times as a kid, through teen years, and even through college and the NBA. Allen never breaks out of it. Allen Iverson with so much struggles as a child became one of the biggest legends in NBA history. As a NBA legend people would think that Allen wouldn’t have struggles anymore, but he still does and never escapes from it.
the things he has overcome. Magic Johnson Started out his life having a tough childhood. He had to balance many things such as, Basketball and providing for his family. But as he grew older his Basketball skills did too. He transitioned into one of the best Basketball players of all time. As you can, tell magic had a very tough childhood having to balance many things in his young life, and somehow transitioning into One of the all time greats in basketball History.
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.
