On December 26, 1996, the wealthy community of Boulder, Colorado, was shaken by a crime that would become one of America’s most famous mysteries. JonBenet Ramsey, a six-year-old beauty queen, was found murdered in the basement of her family home. The day after Christmas, Patsy Ramsey, walked downstairs to find an unknown letter on her staircase. The letter was a ransom note written by an apparent kidnapper who was said to have possession of JonBenet, demanding a large sum of $180,000 in exchange for retrieving their daughter unharmed. The letter warned that if they did not follow instructions, their daughter would be beheaded. However, despite the warning, Patsy called the police who were immediately involved in the case. Patsy being the one that called 911 was believed to be hiding something seeing as the fact she thought she had hung up the phone but did not, talking to her family. She said “What did you do?.” Patsy also stated that Burke was asleep when she was calling the police, but some people said they could hear him in the background after she thought she had hung up the phone that morning. Although Patsy Ramsey is one of the suspects in the murder of her daughter, many others remain. John Benet Ramsey, JonBenet’s father, was the one who found his daughter deceased at the end of the spiral staircase in the basement. When asked in interviews how he felt when he saw her, he said he felt relieved at first, then he realized she was no longer alive. However, he was told not to touch the body of evidence by investigators. He took the tape off of her mouth, carried her upstairs, and put a blanket over her. Police thought it was suspicious that John found the body and tampered with the evidence. At that moment, he became a great suspect in the case.
