Colonial Living: Patriots vs. Loyalists What’s going on, Well today people are deciding to either join the patriots or the loyalists. Supposing that you were wondering what a patriot is, it is a new group that is forming inside of the colonies that want independence from the british. The patriots are going against the redcoats who are also known as the british. Now the citizens are starting to rebel against the redcoats and are starting to take them down one by one. They do this by waiting till they’re in range they fire. People are starting to do this because they don’t want part in the british government and they weren’t being treated fairly by them. Most of the famous patriots at this time are George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. George is now a general for the patriots and Thomas Jefferson has been warning people and writing things to convince the citizens to join them. Schmoop.com said, “John Adams (1735-1826) was, along with Thomas Jefferson, one of only two signers of the Declaration of Independence later to become president.” …show more content…
A lot of the famous loyalists include General Braddock who has just died with many of his troops from an ambush while trying to use his troops to take over the fort named Duquesne.
There has been rumors that a man named Benjamin Franklin gave advice to the general that the French would try and ambush him, but general Braddock was used to fighting the Europeans and he didn’t think the french would. Another famous loyalist is Benedict Arnold who was a general of the continental army who went to fight for the british.According to historic Valley Forge "Arnold was one of a number of Benedict Arnolds including an early governor of Rhode Island and his father.” There was a few good loyalists and these were some of them. were some loyalists and if you’re not familiar with loyalists they were the people who still wanted to stay part of the british and stay in their government
system. A few things that happened to the loyalists so far was that they have to stay in areas controlled by the patriots and they had to be careful of invaders or ambushes. Some of the British or loyalists stayed back and wanted to fight the patriots and others wanted to be safer and went back to England. Many people who stayed back are forming small groups called loyal greens. The biggest reasons why people still remain as a loyalists is because they feel it is safer in this situation that the British government will protect them better and they might have a chance to stay alive. Others just wanted to stay with the British because they were afraid to fight the British. sometimes people stayed because Some people have a business that interests England more than the Patriots. Many people are looking for jobs like working for britain’s army. If you are currently interested in the loyalists then most of them are in New York which is the Tory capital of America at this time. Even though it sounds like everyone is on a side, not everyone is, some are currently in a neutral zone and are trying to avoid conflicts. If you are beware because many people feel that you should join a side or die. One of those people are Benjamin Franklin, he just wrote a paper and drew a picture of a chopped up snake that represents the colonies and it says join or die. Many of those people right now are printing off fake money at this time and are being pursued many times each day. One happened about five minutes ago when a man started running out of his house. Later another man jumped out of his window and had wrist bands with knives coming out of them and caught the man that printed fake money.
The American Revolution started in the year 1765, when the Colonists rejected the Parliament of Great Britain to tax them without representation and ended in 1783 with the peace treaty with Britain; Treaty of Paris. But a lot of major events occurred in the colonies before the American Revolution could be over and these events would result in series of social, political, and intellectual transformation in American history. In his book, The Minutemen and Their World, Robert Gross’s describes the lives of people in Concord, Massachusetts before, during and, after the American Revolution, where much of these events took place and changed the way of life people lived in Concord. He goes through a very brief detailed aspects of colonial life in
Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers to the United States, was not a patriot but a mere loyalist to England before the dissolution between England and the colonies occurred. Sheila L. Skemp's The Making of a Patriot explores how Benjamin Franklin tried to stay loyal to the crown while taking interest in the colonies perception and their own representation in Parliament. While Ms. Skemp alludes to Franklin's loyalty, her main illustration is how the attack by Alexander Wedderburn during the Privy Council led to Franklin's disillusionment with the British crown and the greater interest in making the Thirteen Colonies their own nation. Her analysis of Franklin's history in Parliament and what occurred on the night that the council convened proves the change behind Franklin's beliefs and what lead to his involvement in the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution. Benjamin Franklin was the colonial agent representing Massachusetts in Parliament in Britain.
As far the Patriots are concerned, they were most citizens who wanted the revolution and freedom from the British. The Patriots were sick and tired of the British rule and their unfair treatment towards them. The Patriots
The patriots are being not ready to govern themselves because of many reasons. According to document 2 (A Loyalist is Tarred and Feathered (1774)) a poor elderly man named Malcolm was violently hit by a group of people. A group of people tarred and feathered the poor old man. They dislocated his arm an...
.... The Patriots believed in themselves, and they never thought about the idea of losing battles. Two people whom provided this ideology was George Washington and Benedict Arnold. In schools, these days students, are learning about Benedict Arnold as a hero, but back in time the congress did not consider him and respect him as he needed to be respected. There were some logical reasons why he left the Patriots and went to the British side. First of all, he was not respected as much as the other generals. Second of all, he had sacrificed a lot of things for his country and he had fought for the country by risking his life. Lastly, the government was not giving him the credits that he deserved from the victories that he had in the battles. These reasons pushed and forced him to go to the British side. After he went to London, everybody started calling him a traitor.
The Revolutionary war, sparked by the colonist’s anger towards taxation without representation, was a conflict between the United States and its mother country Great Britain. This event had been considered the most significant event in the American history. It separated the thirteen colonies from the tyrannical ruling of King George. The revolutionary war was not a big war, “The military conflict was, by the standards of later wars, a relatively modest one. Battle deaths on the American side totaled fewer than 5,000”1. However, the war proved that the thirteen colonies were capable of defeating the powerful Great Britain. Over the years there were many Hollywood films made based on the revolutionary war, 1776, Revolution, Johnny Tremain, and The Patriot. But, no movie has stirred up as much controversy as the Mel Gibbson movie The Patriot. The patriot is very entertaining but it is historically inaccurate. Too much Hollywood “spices” was added to the movie for viewing pleasures.
In the 1770’s the British army was well known for its monetary wealth and professional well trained militia. American colonists were slowly getting more and more fed up with the inequality and taxation under British rule so they took a stand. Americans known as Rebels or Patriots fought in the Revolutionary War to gain independence from Britain. Some colonists also known as loyalists, thought that the Patriots had no chance against the professional militia so they stayed loyal to the crown. Although improbable at the start of the American Revolution, the colonists were able to defeat the British army and formally gain independence because they had great leadership from George Washington, similar goals that created high morale, and aided from
...rebels did have a few sympathizers. People like scholars and ex-Continental Army members supported or even joined the rebels themselves. The result of the rebels’ actions really showed the people who is in charge. James Bowdoin, the governor of Massachusetts at the time, opposed Daniel Shays and his rebels. He received a military force from the United States government to end the rebellion. He wiped out most of the rebels while the others scattered. While they were defeated, some rebels brought up some minor revolts that were quickly put down by local police force or military. Daniel Shays fled the scene and was later caught by military. He was granted a five year pension by the government. He served the pension in the Continental Army without getting paid. He later left the Army and became a heavy drinker. Daniel Shays died at the age of 78 in New York.
Many suspect that they were with Washington only to maximize the hate on both sides of the battle. They went against Washington’s orders to not be the aggressors. Soon large units of British and American soldiers were sent to settle what should have been small battles. The French however were prepared to fight back and even had the Indians as allies to help with upcoming battles. In July, Braddock’s army which consisted of over 2000 British soldiers rode west with George Washington and came upon 250 plus French soldiers with over 600 Indians allies. Nearly 1000 British were killed, unlike George Washington who was unhurt during the battle was soon promoted to commander of the Virginia army for his bravery. (Roark 146)
The Founding Fathers most famous writings is without a doubt the Constitution. The constitution was an amazing piece of literature, and played a huge part in shaping America. The founding fathers wrote many different writings that also helped found the United States. These other writings expressed some very good concerns and taught some necessary values.
As an American observes the life around him, noting the many advancements made in merely the last century, he must wonder how America climbed to such a level. The 21st century technology, the military and political power, education and ethics, all came from such meager beginnings, solidified by the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War proved to be a significant turning point in the history of our country, but what caused America to win? What were some of the most significant factors in the victory of these American patriots? By examining these three particular factors, America’s military assets, it’s aid from other countries, and its own spirit of independence, one’s understanding of the Revolutionary War, an essential root of this nation, is truly increased.
First, the Revolutionary War was the first instance of Americans preserving their freedoms. We were unhappy about how the British were treating us so we fought back. One issue was taxation without representation. Some people are still unhappy about how they are being treated by the government so they fight back, like the colonists. For example, Colin Kaepernick was unhappy
When you first think of the Patriots, The first thing that you think of is that they are a good team. Every year since Tom Brady took over the game every game in 2000, the Patriots have been considered contenders to win every year and to win the Super Bowl. Dominance is what you call it and many more words you can to describe the patriots, and the three main reasons behind all of the dominance that the Patriots have Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Bill Belichick. The main question that everyone ask is “Why have Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and the Patriots been so well over and over?” Some people believed the team was cheating. I believe its greatness, pride and goals. What make the Patriots’ who they are, starts with the head honcho Robert Kraft. Robert Kraft purchased the Patriots in January of 1994
The American Revolution began as a conflict over political and social change, but soon developed into a dispute over personal rights and political liberty. A decade of conflicts between the British government and the Americans, starting with the Stamp Act in 1765 that eventually led to war in 1775, along with The Declaration of Independence in 1776. Americans united as one and knew that they wanted to be an independent country, have their own laws, rights, and not be a colony of the Great Britain. They fought hard for their independence and people lost their lives in the process of it, but in the end they succeeded. Never give up, keep fighting till the mission is accomplished, just like the Americans did when they were fighting for their independence.
The Movie, The Patriot, was a rousing and vigorous Revolutionary War epic from the view point of a family full of revenge and strong wills. This movie began with the majority of colonists angered. This part of the movie caught my attention and intrigued me to keep watching until the last minute. I especially enjoyed the heartbreaking moments and the realistic war scenes in the movie. Although I liked those aspects of the movie, the storyline was exceptionally good as well. To understand this historical fiction movie, a historical background is needed. If a person does not understand what is meant by “Taxation without representation,” then the subject of conflict will not be understood. The plot of the movie began to develop when Benjamin Martin’s son, Gabriel, was captured by British troops. Benjamin Martin was a former hero of the French and Indian War, but he renounced fighting so that he would be able to raise his family in peace. Attempting to save his brother, Benjamin’s other son stood up to the British soldiers, but was killed in the process. Benjamin, only wanting to save Gabriel, ended up fighting in battle, rescuing Gabriel, and killing the murderer of his other son. After all of this happened Benjamin realized the importance of being involved in the war, so he sent his other children to live with their aunt in order for he and Gabriel to join the army. Once they became part of the army, Benjamin became a general and lead his colonial militia, including Gabriel, into trifling battles. During battle Gabriel was killed, which deeply depressed Benjamin and made him so distraught that he does not feel like fighting anymore. His feelings stayed this way until (while at the camp) he saw the Brit that killed Gabriel. Benjamin then killed that man and understood at that moment why so many men had been dieing. Because of this, Benjamin became extremely patriotic and decided to move on with the Americans because he then had something to fight for. Everything that happened kept me on the edge of my chair wanting to know what was going to happen next. Overall, I thought that this movie was very moving and vigorous.
