A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a play full of many instances of Shakespearian Passion. These instances consist of passion for revenge, love, and magic through different characters throughout the play.
Lysander displayed a passion for love by expressing his love for Hermia to Demetrius by saying “You have her father’s love, Demetrius. Let me have Hermia’s. Do you marry him.” (I.i.93+94) and he said this because Demetrius wanted Lysander to stop acting like Hermia was his. He then later on showed his passion when he fought with Egeus’s daughter. Here Egeus took ownership over his daughter and refused to give his daughter to Lysander and so he said “I am, my lord, as well derived as he, As well possess'd; my love is more than his;” (I.i.99+100) which shows him proving himself to Egeus better then Demetrius. The last instance of passion displayed by Lysander is when he was worried about Hermia fainting after wandering in the woods for a long time. Lysander decided to take a rest and so Hermia was trying to find a cushion when he said “One turf shall serve as pillow for us both. One heart, one bed, two bosoms, and one troth.” (II.ii.41+42) which shows his passion is so strong that he believes he and Hermia is one person. All these instances of passion for love are significant to the play because without it the reader would not understand the amount of emotion behind these characters such as Lysander. It also helps the reader actually absorb the emotions and become the character in the play.

Another instance is when he said “I am feared in field and town.” Here is talking about how through his magical powers the people in the town now fear him. These few instances are significant to the play because they give the play a feel of fantasy. With the intence passion of Love and Revenge, this magical passion really adds the enjoyment which will keep the reader attracted.
In conclusion, the book A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a play full of different types of passion. This includes passion for revenge, love, and magic. A mixture of these three passion keeps the play attracted by the reader and creates a great balance of mixed emotion and attributes.
In A Midsummer Night’s Dream control is unpredictable. In act two scene two Oberon tells Puck to put the flower nectar in Demetrius’s eyes and he messes up and puts it in Lysander's eyes. In the stage directions it says “ He anoints Lysander’s eyes with nectar.” (2.2.85). By calling to mind the seasons in unnatural order, describing the moon behaving strangely, and discussing the dualistic, irrational nature of dreams, Shakespeare effectively evokes a sense of chaos and disorder. Linking each of these motifs to the themes of love, irrationality, and disobedience allows Shakespeare to illustrate the disarray that is bound to result from any romance.
True love is the most powerful love in this story as it is the sort that hurts no one and is really from the heart. It is demonstrated when Lysander says " There, gentle Hermia, may I marry thee, and to that place the sharp Athenian law cannot pursue us. If thou lovest me, then, Steal forth thy father's house tomorrow night" act 1 scene 1 161-164. It shows that during those harsh times their love was strong enough to even risk the anger of their parents.
Infatuation is love, which is self-indulgent, obsessive and irrational. It causes people to lose their self-control and perspective. It is often a product of the senses, which is of physical infatuation rather than mental compatibility, thus it is appropriate for Oberon's love potion to be applied to the eyes which is the strongest senses a person depends on to view the world. The nature of the infatuation Demetrius has for Hermia is fickle and selfish. Demetrius' affections switch from Helena to Hermia, sparing no thought for Helena, who is deeply in love with him.
However, the ideal relationships are not immune to experiencing unharmonious periods. Despite this, the ideal couples eventually found harmony which allowed them to experience a joyous ending. Lysander and Hermia have a harmonious relationship in that they display similar desires and mindsets. In the beginning, after declaring their love for one another Lysander and Hermia devise a plan to run away and elope (A Midsummer Night’s Dream 1.1.156-178). Even when they are not of the same mindset Hermia and Lysander find an amicable solution. After becoming lost in the forest, Lysander’s desire is for them to sleep together, Hermia refuses for fear of the disgrace that would be placed upon her if for some reason they did not become married. Even though Lysander is a reluctant he respects her wishes (A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2.1.47-67). On the other hand, the relationship between Oberon and Titania in spite of being plagued by dysfunction comes to a harmonious agreement. At the beginning Titania and Oberon are quarreling over the control of an Indian changeling boy (A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2.1.18-31). While under the influence of an enchantment that Oberon had placed on her Titania relinquishes the control of the changeling boy to Oberon (A Midsummer Night’s Dream 4.1.56-60). Love, lust and infatuation all beguile the senses of the characters in this dreamy and whimsical work of Shakespeare, and leads them to act in outlandish ways, which throughly amuses the reader. True love does prevail in the end for Hermia and Lysander, and the initial charm of infatuation ends up proving to have happy consequence for Helena and Demetrius as well. Even when at first the reader thinks that, in theory, the effects the potion will wear off and Lysander will once again reject Helena, Oberon places a blessings on all the couples that they should live happily ever after.

Demetrius, Helena, Lysander, and Hermia are the for young teens of the story. At the beginning of the play it is Lysander and Helena who are madly in love, and are planning to to escape from Athens to elope. Helena is in love with Demetrius, and Demetrius cared for Helena and liked her a lot but was not in love with her. As soon as Demetrius sees Hermia he immediately stops having any feelings for Helena whatsoever and is deeply in love with Hermia. Demetrius thought that he had fallen in love at first sight, but Helena was determined to show him differently. Demetrius: ³ Tempt not too much the hatred of my spirit,/ For I am sick when I do look on thee.² Helena: ³And I am sick when I look not on you.² (Act II, sc. i, lines 218-220) This piece of dialogue shows how much Demetrius is now in love with Hermia from just seeing her, and how disgusted he feels when he looks upon Helena who he used to care about. Helena is simply just expressing how much she is love with Demetrius and how bad she feels that he is treating her in such a manner of hatred.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream portrays magic through many places in the text. Magic is a key component to the plot of the story. Magic can make a problem disappear, or it can intensify the problem. There are many reasons magic is powerful, but one of the main ones is because not everyone understands it. Magic in one way or another affects everyone in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but the perspective with which each character views magic is different. The power of magic is something that is hard to understand, even those who use magic often cannot fully understand magic because in many ways it is irrational and inexplicable.
Although Hermia’s father did not want her to marry Lysander, she was madly in love with him and wanted to go against her fathers’ wishes just to be with him, and she did just that. By the end of the play, Hermia and Lysander’s relationship with one another was a success. True love is defined as a love worth fighting for and that is exactly what Hermia and Lysander did, they fought for each other.
