This movie does not reflect the original context of the Gospel because it encompassed not just Christianity beliefs, but the beliefs of Catholic too. Giving the story with a twist and spin to it. It also portrays several inaccuracies of the events of the people. Nonetheless, the movie characterized the history and tradition of the state, and the people of the era relatively accurate.

According to the Roman’s tradition and culture, the Romans would usually scourge a criminal before he was being put to death. Scourging usually only involves the men, and not the women, Roman senators and soldiers. The whipping includes tearing of skin, leaving the person weak and bloody. Jesus gained followers very quickly due to his religious teachings. This opposed as a threat to both the Jewish and the Roman from the political and religious authorities. Hence, treating Him as a ‘criminal’. Liken to the whipping, the cross was an instrument for death and execution for criminals. In the scene, Jesus was seen clearly crucifying together with the two robbers.

The director of the movie tends to portray women differently in how the gospel would portray them as. Giving the women’s role a new spin and sophistication to it. In the movie, Mary, the mother of Jesus was an important character. She emerges in most of the scene even before the scene of crucifixion in the movie. However, this is fairly inaccurate, as the Hebrew Bible did not mention about Mary’s involvement during the last twelve hours of his suffering until the time when Jesus was on the
