My messages were very spread out. Occasionally I would post two messages in one day, but usually my messages were spread out. I tried to look at the new messages in the discussions at least four days out of the week. I did not see a lot of the messages before the POP would close because many of the students would wait until the last minute to submit a thread. Since I am in the Eastern Time Zone I would be asleep by the time many people started submitting their threads. Many times I would be the first person to submit a thread on the POP. Some of the students may have had more messages than me, but I tried to put forth a greater effort in each message than other students.
Interaction
I did have several back-and-forth conversations with my fellow classmates. Many of the students would respond to some of my messages when I would reply to them, but often I would not get a reply. I tried to reply to most of the messages directed towards me. If they only were just agreeing with me, and did not have much to say I probably did not say anything in reply to that. I believe I challenged many of my fellow students into deeper thinking just like they did the same to me. I quickly picked up on who had the same political views as me in the class, and the students who had different views than me. When I would challenge a thread that someone posted that I did not agree with I tried to be respectful to them. I sometimes can soun...

Conclusion
Without the discussions that we did in this course, I do not believe I would have gotten as much out of this class as what I have with them. The discussions and simulations have been my two favorite things about this class. It is probably because I love hands-on activities. I have always learned better when interacting with others. The things I have learned in the discussions will always help me in everyday life. For one, I think it has made me more respectful of other people's political views. They have also taught me many things that I had no previous knowledge of before this class. Many of the ideas that my fellow students mentioned I would have never have thought of and probably never would have if they had not mentioned them.
Report on Winner-Take-All "Winner-take-all” is a term used to describe single member district and at large election systems that award seats to the highest vote getters without ensuring fair representation for minority groups. In the United States, these are typically single-member district schemes or at-large, block-voting systems. Under winner-take-all rules, a slim majority of voters can control 100% of seats, leaving everyone else effectively without representation. There's something else troubling about the way we elect presidents--something beyond the personal attacks, the derelict voters and the influence of big money. It is the fact that so many of those who do vote don't have their votes counted.
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
Explanation Participation trophies are awards handed out for simply participating in an athletic event or program. These trophies are very common in youth athletics across the country and their effects on children have been debated for years. In many areas around the country, teams hand out thousands of trophies to children, and many of the children will receive more than one particiation trophy (Merryman). Arguments have been formed from both sides of these trophies and researchers have found beneficial and harmful effects on young athletes when given participation trophies.
Being a course about leadership, I was able to learn several takeaways important to being a leader.
Throughout my educational experience, I’ve found that I thrive best in the most advanced courses where less time is spent on learning information and more time is spent on discussion. For example, in my IB HL Math course students are encouraged to discover new theorems and tools through teamwork and class discussion rather than just being given these new theorems and tools. This has allowed me to understand calculus on a deeper level and has made it one of my favorite courses. My other classes operate similarly in that students lead the discussion while the teacher observes and occasionally moves the discussion along. Students are encouraged to connect curricula across subjects, such as when we discuss physics in math, human rights in biology, or psychology in literature. The interdisciplinary and challenging courses offered through Stony Brook’s Honors College will allow me to take courses like the ones I’ve
As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
The class attended for my Participant Observation Assignment was a yoga class at the Recreation Center at State University. Such a class is for one session and is forty-five minutes in length. During this class, we covered beginning yoga moves at a slow pace so everyone felt comfortable. The nature of the class consisted of simple yoga moves, serine atmosphere, and relaxing music. Learning theories that were address, applied, and by the instructor wanted us to use were Skinner’s Operant Conditioning, Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory, and Observational Learning. The instructor also taught using the Direct Instruction Approach and wanted the students to use Lave’s Situated Learning Theory.
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
I have not taken a civics, government, or social studies class since I was in High School, back in 1992-1996. I can honestly tell you that I was not interested in those types of classes, even though I did well in them! This class, however, was different. I am not sure if it was because I am older or if the book and other martials were more effective, but I feel that I have learned a great deal about our government from this course.
Taking this class is one of the best decision that I made. At first I was hesitant to take this class and simply just want a credit. All of the topic that we discussed in the class are mind blowing and increasing our awareness about our society.
What I like most in this class is that we learn about each other and each others cultures.
Today is the second session that I had counselor with this particle client. He came in to see me for the same problem that he had before. But except this time client had be doing a little than before. Before I started with the interview I had use the five stages and dimension of the interviews a client. I want to have an empathic relationship with my client, and gathering story and find the strength of my client is part of getting to know my client. This time I had set a realistic goal that my client can work toward without feeling that he is not in control of making the decision. The next is stage restoring finding what is not working now and trying to find an alternative that will work then take the action of letting the client go or
Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes in that I can work at my own pace, make my own deadlines (besides the due dates), and communicate with others in ways I had never done before. I am more of a hands on, face to face, confrontation kind of student,
To ensure our messages are interrupted by the other party while in the classroom we need to make sure the communication is interactive. To ensure the conversation stays interactive you will need to ask questions and encourage your peers to do the same and provide feedback (Wood,
There was a significant amount of knowledge given in this course, involving concepts that in our teaching career will be extremely important. From this course I have gained a significant amount of learning experiences. I had the pleasure learning about how the educational system has come to be what it is today and who were the important people in the creation of the public education, like Horace Mann. Watching the videos and reading the chapters required has opened my eyes more of how a teacher should respond to different situations involving a student, For example when we read the chapter on the laws that revolve around the educators and the students. I had absolutely no clue that students had rights while in school property. Another learning
