During today’s presentation, I learned that there is an organization called Dance for PD that focuses on dance rehabilitating patients with Parkinson’s disease. I also learned that there is a study called the Freiburg Study that focuses on how dance benefits patients with Parkinson’s. I also had no idea that Google glass was developing an app to help people remember and trigger body movements in their daily lives using the language of dance. I believe that Dance for PD covers the mental and emotional aspects of health. It gives these people a reason to try; it makes them feel like a dancer not just a patient.
I think that Dance for PD hits every part of the Socio-Ecological Model except for public policy. It helps the individual, it helps them make friends or interpersonal relationships, …show more content…

I cannot see a way that this could cross over into public policy. David Lenthal discussed how he works not only with dancers, but also with healthcare professionals to learn how to best help the patients. This shows that you don’t have to work in the healthcare field to make a difference. People around the world are now starting programs like this, and it is interesting to see how this varies with the diverse cultures.
The primary focus for today’s presentation was helping Parkinson’s patients learn to cope with their disease and find ways around it. Physical activity helps them relearn how to move and improves their quality of life.
