A successful marriage requires trust, truthfulness, devotion, and bravery. This is a necessity for creating a stable marriage. In Romeo and Juliet, Paris exhibits courage, kindness, and devotion, showing that he deserves Juliet's love more than Romeo. Paris exhibits one of the traits, courage, when he talks to Juliet. At Friar Lawrence's cell, he goes to tell her that the marriage is moved to tomorrow. (Shakespeare 4.1.1-2) He then said, “Happily met, my lady and my wife.” (Shakespeare 4.1.18) showing how courageous he is toward Juliet by saying it to her and meaning it. Although he is happy, he is courageous in expressing how he feels. (Shakespeare 4.1.18, 25) Paris exhibits courage through the feelings he has toward Juliet. When Paris thinks Juliet is sad over Tybalt's death, he exhibits the second of the traits, kindness. …show more content…
(Shakespeare 4.1.6-15) “To stop the inundation of her tears,” Paris says “Which, too much minded by herself alone / may be put from her by society.” (Shakespeare 4.1.12-14) When he says this he is telling Friar Lawrence to cheer her up he is marry Lastly, Paris shows devotion while he is at the Capulet tomb. When Paris and his page enter the graveyard where the Capulet tomb is, he says “Which with sweet water nightly I will dew. Or, wanting that, with tears distilled by moans, “The obsequies that I for thee will keep, nightly shall be to strew thy grave and weep.” (Shakespeare 5.3.14-17) The quote means Paris will place flowers on her grave or weep every night. When Paris thinks Romeo is here to do something horrible with the bodies, he is worried for Juliet even though she is dead and takes a risk because of his
It's the middle of the night, Charlie is sweaty and hot, and he can't fall asleep... But suddenly there's a pound on his window. Terrified, Charlie can't bear to turn around and look to see what it is, but he musters the courage to look at his window. At the front of his window Jasper Jones, the kid with the worst reputation in Corrigan, is at Charlie's house in the middle of the dark night. Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey was a suspenseful and a nerve racking book, it starts out when Jasper comes to show Charlie Laura's dead body in the middle of the night, most of the book Charlie and Jasper try to keep this murder a secret and also try to figure out the killer. Charlie changes a lot throughout the book and gets a girlfriend along the way. He shows the most courage in the book Jasper Jones for many reasons, he keeps Laura's murder a secret from everyone, he musters enough courage in him to talk and flirt with Laura's sister Eliza, and he also keeps pushing through life when his mom leaves him.
Paris and Romeo are similar in the way that they uphold their integrity. Paris holds his integrity by following the law and making sure other citizens also follow the law. “This is that banished haughty Montague… And here is come to do some villainous shame to the dead bodies. I will apprehend him.” (Rom. 5.3 49-53) In Act 5 Scene 3, Paris caught Romeo at Juliet’s grave and thought he was committing a crime by shaming the dead. He feels that he must keep the law and uphold his integrity through arresting Romeo. Romeo also keeps his integrity, to Juliet, by always showing his love to her through his actions. “Bid her devise by some means to come shrift this afternoon. And there she shall at Friar Lawrence’ cell be shrived and married.” (Rom. 2.4 154-156) Romeo shows his love to
Jeanette Walls is the picture-perfect illustration of an individual who finds righteousness for herself. She is the protagonist in the book “The Glass Castle”, who has an unfair miserable childhood due to how her parents were. Walls stands out for her determination as she goes out to the real world to seek her own justice, with the ultimate goal of being stable for once, and take responsibility for herself, not for the whole family.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” is a novel by Harper Lee, that teaches many themes, one of which being very important is courage. Many people think that courage is a man with a gun in his hand, but Lee’s definition is much different. She thinks that courage is when you know that you’re beaten before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what. The first quote I have to further explain this is early in the story when Atticus tells Jem and Scout about the court case he is handling. “Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win” (Lee 101). Atticus knows he won’t win the court case, but he still tries his best and doesn’t falter whatsoever. Many people scrutinize him for defending a negro, but he ignores them like he should, and shows maturity and courage.
Juliet is forced into a marriage with Paris, even though she and Romeo have already been wed in secrecy. The concept of an arranged marriage is rather old-fashioned, and given the fact that the play is set in the English city of Verona during the Renaissance, it all seems to make sense. But what would Paris do if he was inserted into present day? What would be perfect for County Paris? Giving a good look at Paris’ defining traits reveals that him being confident, vain, and handsome
Anne Frank a young girl who died believing that people are good at heart. ‘’You could not do this you could not do that.’’ A quote from Anne Frank. Found in the collection book page number 283. In this essay, I will be showing you why Anne might feel certain ways during this hardship. Also what it reveals about her character. Anne is a brave young girl who always does what she feels is right and her way of taking on life and its challenges is taught for a person to do in that time and she managed to take on so much. In advance to Anne hard life, she keeps a diary to share her thoughts and option on life in hiding during the dreadful event called World War Two. This dairy was a miracle to the world. They now know the hardship and struggles that the Jews had two indoor. Anne dairy opened so many doors for journalists and many others. They have a diary of a real end of the Holocaust in their hands.
”Courage doesn’t mean that you’re fearless, courage means you don’t let fear stop you.” This explanation of courage, stated by Bethany Hamilton, describes a very similar definition of courage as the one Atticus believes and enforces. Atticus has also made a connection to this in the book, stating, “I want you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand,” (Lee 149). He said this as he talked to his son about a dying neighbor in the book. In the novel, Mrs. Dubose, the neighbor, exemplifies courage through her perseverance, her determination, and her bravery to end the tyranny of her morphine superior.
This is when he calls her a "disobedient wretch." The reason for this is because Lord Capulet has told Paris that Juliet will take his hand in marriage and if she doesn't then he will be going back to his word. In those days, whatever the man of the house says goes. To hear that Juliet refusing the command makes him shocked and very angry, as He has searched and found a perfect match for Juliet and so he feels that she should be grateful for.
In the beginning of the book Jem is ten. He is innocent and is kind of oblivious to what is happening in the town. In the book Jem represents courage and how that courage is represented changes the older he gets. In the beginning Jem‘s courage is shown when is dared to touch the Radley house, he does that because he never backs down from a dare. That is the Jem‘s and the kids idea of courage. As the story continues Jem sees how courage is not the naive idea of touching the Radely house. He sees Atticus shot a mad dog and Mrs. Dubose fight with morphine addiction. Jem is made to read to her and when he asks why Atticus says: “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.“
Lord Capulet is a loving father who deeply cares for Juliet. When he arranges the marriage between her and Paris, he is just trying to do what he feels is best for her. He knows Paris, being handsome and rich, will make a good husband to Juliet. When she refuses to marry Paris he goes into a violent rage, saying things he doesn’t mean. “Hang thee, young baggage, disobedient wretch! / I tell thee what: get thee to church o’Thursday, / Or never after look me in the face.”(3.5.166-168). He feels that the marriage of the two will be beneficial for Juliet and he loves her so much that he doesn’t mean to hurt her feelings. When Juliet “dies” he laments. “Despised, distressed, hated, martyred, killed! / Uncomfortable time, why cam’st thou now/ To murder, murder our solemnity? / O child! O child! My soul and not my child! / Dead art thou! Alack, my child is dead, / And with my child my joys are buried.” (4.5.65-70). He cries out in a pain and anguish for his lost daughter Juliet. By showing emotion on account of her death and for her disobedience, Capulet shows that he really does care for Juliet and that he is a good father, wanting the best for her.
Courage is not something that we are born with, it is a skill that takes time to learn and only a few are lucky enough to have it. To Kill a Mockingbird is not only about life in a world full of hate, it is about standing up for anyone’s beliefs being brave enough to do it. In this story, Harper Lee says “Courage is not a man with a gun in his hand. It's knowing you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do” (Lee 112). In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee illustrates courage through Atticus Finch, Mrs. Dubose, and Arthur Radley.
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.”(Eleanor Roosevelt). Courage and bravery are two of the well-demonstrated themes in the novel “The Kite Runner”. The novel establishes courage through consistently maintaining responsibilities and the ability to redeem and persevere events and actions. Rather, bravery is demonstrated in the novel as the ability to stand up for anything that goes against teaching and values. Bravery also goes above and beyond courage, and can be seen as an act that may challenge someone physically, emotionally and mentally. The novel is
Later in the play, Juliet describes her hatred of marrying Paris through a dramatic motif that reads: “Or shut me nightly in a charnel house, / O’ercover’d quite with dead men’s rattling bones,” (IV.i.82-83), and “Or bid me go into a new grave / And hide me with a dead man in his shroud-” (IV.i.85-86). In this motif, she tells of extreme situations revolving around the idea of death that she would rather encounter than marry Paris. The speech begins with, “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris,” (IV.i.78) and ends with, “And I will do it without fear or doubt, / To live an unstain’d wife of my sweet love. “ (IV.i.98-99).
"Courage." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 12 Apr. 2017. In To Kill a Mockingbird Scout learns about courage from Mrs. Dubose, Jem, and Boo Radley. Courage maybe defined as above but I believe that it has more definitions depending on the situation for example Mrs. Dubose fights her addiction shows a different form of courage than Jem when he fights Bob Ewell and Boo Radley when he fights the religion forced on him by his brother.
When Juliet awakens after her two-day sleep only to find Romeo and County Paris dead, she is in a very unstable state. Instead of being responsible and staying with Juliet to comfort her and make sure that she doesn’t harm herself or others, he tells her that he will make her a nun “Come, come away”. Thy husband in thy bosom lays dead and Paris too. Come, I’ll dispose of thee among a sisterhood of holy nuns.” (5. 3.166-169.
