I am an adult with ADHD and my income is generated from Social Security Disability. I am grateful for the support but I prefer to obtain a vocational degree where the symptoms of my ADHD become an asset instead of a disorder.
I have earned 69 credits with a 3.59 grade point average. I am applying my paralegal education to change in public policy and social. I overcame many hardships caused from the reckless behavior of my parents growing up. My desire to volunteer for CASA (Court appointed special advocate) and be the voice for endangered children in the judicial system derive from my own childhood. The legal system is a scary place for a child and they can feel alone, not knowing what may happen to them.

Paralegals have become an essential part of today's legal system, and as the profession becomes one of the leading and fastest growing occupations in the U.S. economy; these individuals perform delegated tasks under the supervision of attorneys. Education has played an important part on this matter; it has facilitated this development by allowing lawyers to use these skills professionals as agents to delegate specific tasks such as legal research, gathering of information and the drafting of specific legal documents under the supervision and final approval of their principals. This has been very significant because now; we can enjoy a speedy process in a cumbersome legal system. From en economic standpoint, it has also been beneficial by decreasing the substantial amount of the legal cost a firm could incur if only lawyers were allowed to perform this kind work.
College graduates or working adults who want to re-invent themselves should consider a paralegal degree. The paralegal field is rapidly growing and become an ideal choice for individuals who want a stable and exciting career.
The paralegal field is thought to be a high paced glorious career of working alongside an attorney and getting recognition for their work. In reality a paralegal job is nothing like Erin Brockovich (A movie where a paralegal was able to investigate and played an immense part in winning a large case) envisioned from the movie. Becoming a paralegal is appealing because it allows a quick entrance into a professional career field and offers a wide range of daily and career experiences. However, the work-life balance can be poor, the career path often stagnates without continuing education, and the pay is insufficient for the work load. Also, while there are a wide range of paralegal jobs there is also competition and an applicant must possess the ability to step right into the role with little or no training. While expecting much of the work to be comparable to administrative work and document reading.
Paralegals are employed in a wide variety of legal settings and play an ever-increasing role in the delivery of affordable and efficient legal services. However, regulation of paralegals has been non-existent or inconsistent, though the topic continues to be a significant issue. Across the country, paralegals advocate bar associations, state legislatures and courts to consider regulatory programs that go beyond merely defining the term "Paralegal." Federally required licensing of paralegals would benefit future growth and development of the career field and address the controversial issues surrounding it.
The fact that interested me the most about the paralegal profession is that paralegals are not limited to working in a law office. There are a number of other career opportunities for paralegals. Some opportunities are in law-related fields, and other opportunities are in non-legal related fields; however, the opportunities are for jobs in which a paralegal education provides useful training. Paralegal skills intertwine with many other professions. In addition, I think that paralegals are underpaid because paralegals have many duties, responsibilities and pressures. Paralegals are attorneys’ right hand person and attorneys rely heavily on paralegals’ many skills.
My major is Paralegal Studies and I expect to graduate with an Associates of Arts degree in December of this year. Many years ago, as an investigator for both a private company and a county agency, I was introduced to the legal field. Recently, I was awarded the opportunity to attend college, so I decided I wanted to reenter the legal profession as a paralegal. The paralegal profession appeals to me, because I enjoy the processes of developing a case, as well as its legal aspects. A paralegal is involved in a case from the beginning to the end; from the initial client interview to assisting the attorney during the client’s trial or the settlement process. My goal is to become a paralegal for a solo practitioner or a small firm in my local area who represent clients in different areas of the law.
However, paraprofessionals do enhance the purpose of life needs, especially for children who struggle that might have otherwise been left behind. Paraprofessionals help struggling students be more successful.
Scholarship is a concept that can mean many different things to many different people. As nursing students, scholarship is a concept that we began developing before we started our formal nursing education, will continue to hone during nursing school, and will utilize every day as professional nurses. Scholarship is not something that comes from a singular source, but rather something that is the product of many different experiences, ideas, and types of knowledge. For nurses, it is the synthesis of knowledge from liberal education, knowledge from a variety of disciplines, and the integration of ways of knowing and thinking in nursing that promote scholarship, which in turn leads to the promotion of safe, quality patient care.
My father served the US Army where I had the opportunity to study in several schools during my early childhood. This allowed me to become fully bilingual. In elementary school, I studied in three different schools: Kindergarten in my home town, Naranjito, Puerto Rico; first grade in Fort Bragg, North Carolina; second grade in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico; and I returned to my local town of Naranjito to finish fourth to sixth grades. Later, my family settled in Naranjito, which provided me with an opportunity to continue my studies in middle and high school. I graduated from high school with a GPA of 3.30 and with 2,789 in the College Board. I completed my associate degree studies while attending full time. I completed my baccalaureate degree in Secretarial Sciences in 1996 while attending part-time at night at the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamon. As education has been a major goal in my life, I continued my pursuit for personal development by obtaining Master’s in Business Administration with a major in Human Resources while working full-time and raising a family as a single parent. I completed this two-year program within 18 months achieving a GPA of 3.71.
In the legal profession there are lawyers who, out of kindness, use their legal skills to help those who really need it; this is known as “pro bono” work. Pro bono comes from “pro bono publico”, a Latin phrase meaning “for the public good” [1], and concerns the provision of legal services for free to those requiring legal advice and/or representation who cannot afford to pay for it and where alternative means of legal aid are unavailable [2]. But what is in there for law students? This essay will explain what benefits they could gain from pro bono work, and the range of opportunities available to them.
