The South American county of Paraguay is very interesting and different from the counties that I am aware of. So during this research I learned a lot of different things. Paraguay is practically in the middle of Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia. The president of Paraguay at the moment is Horacio Cartes; he was elected of April 2013. The capital of Paraguay is Asunción; this city was found in 1537 by Spanish explorer. The Paraguayan flag consist of three horizontal stripes and an emblem in the middle. It also consist of three different colors; these three colors were influenced by the French Flag. The first stripe is red; red symbolizes equality and courage. Most people speak spanish, meanwhile the rest of the people speak Guarani. Mostly the indigenous people speak it since it’s an Indian language. Nevertheless, some of the people who speak it are not indigenous so speaking Guarani does not mean he person is indigenous. It is simply a cultural language. People speak spanish when talking business; they treat spanish as their professional language. Other than that, Guarani is spoken, especially within families and friends. Most of the people in Paraguay are Mestizo. About 60% of the people who live in rural areas are poor. The people who are mostly poor are obviously the Indigenous people. I say obviously because this is common in every county which contains Indigenous people. In Paraguay just like in every county people get married. Unlike in other countries, in Paraguay legal divorce is rare, even when the marriage is unstable, especially among the poor people. Males in Paraguay are not see wrong or criticized if they have affairs while being married. Large estates and immigrant settlers produce most of the grains, oilseeds, and beef. The basic Paraguyan diet consist of corn, cassava, and beef. One of the typical dishes is locro which is a stew made out of corn. Another typical dish is sopa paraguaya, this soup is made out of corn, flour and cheese bread. The main meal of the day is eaten at noon and usually includes corn. The Paraguayan also eat many different type of tropical and semitropical fruits.
