Recommended: Which brand of paper towel works best
Introduction: Spills and streaks are an evitable constant as old as liquids. The introduction of paper towel by Authur Scott in 1931 had proven to be a household miracle. As a result, billions of pounds of paper towels are currently being processed annually world-wide by hundreds of paper towel manufactures. Guaranteeing stores and homes unlimited access to this essential multi-purpose high demand product. The scarification of such a large number of trees is beyond unfortunate, nevertheless the sacrifice is deemed worth it considering the alternative. With the exception of the company's design, a roll of paper towel bare a striking resemblance to its neighboring rolls on the shelf. produced displays the similarities and differences of each brand of towels. The cost is the determining factor in the quality of a product for majority of consumers. Although, that assumption is a fact more often than not, paper towels durability, strength, and absorbency level vary by different manufacturers. We conducted a two part experiment to test the strength of five known brands of paper towels, as well as the water absorbency level. Background: The best brand of paper towel is debatable, yet easily testable.
The cost, sheets per roll, amount of ply- sheets, and the dimension is all major components that give a brief overall description of just what to expect out of our towel. Paper towel data were collected from five brands of paper towel labeled A-E, and compared to each other. Then, the towel is visually and physically evaluated by each student, followed by a two part experiment to test the strength and water absorbency of each brand of paper towel by means of water and pool balls. The strength test was accomplished by adding a quantity of up to twelve pools balls onto one wet elevated paper towel sheet. Whichever brand held the most pool balls while wet, was in fact the stronger when wet. To measure the amount of water one sheet of paper towel absorbed, the sheet is totally submerged into 50ml of water, with the remaining water recorded. This experiment is conducted twice and the average is recorded as the final result. Just as expected the most expensive brands were the strongest and most absorbent. The chart below displays the name and data of the five brands used in this …show more content…
experiment Purpose: This experiment allows us to measure the strength of particular brands of paper towel while wet and dry. It also helps to determine which brand is the most useful for light and heavy spills, by measuring the absorbency level and comparing the results to other known brands. In addition, the data provide a factual insight into the underlying pros and cons of five particular brands of paper towel, as well as help consumers determine if spending less or more on paper towel could save or cost them additional money. Hypothesis: Upon inspection of each brand of towel, we predict that paper towel "D" is the strongest when wet and paper towel "B" is the most absorbent. Both paper towel D and B, visually and physically appear to be the strongest when dry, which is a great indicator of the durability when wet. Equipment Used: ⦁ Five Brands of paper towel ⦁ Graduated Cylinder ⦁ Plastic cups ⦁ Small measuring cups ⦁ Pools balls or pennies ⦁ Pipette ⦁ Water ⦁ Timer ⦁ Large Bowl Procedure: Test 1: Wet Towel Test ⦁ Place a large bowl on a hard, sturdy surface ⦁ Measure two milliliters of water ⦁ Two or more students hold each end of one sheet of paper towel approximately one to two inches over the large bowl ⦁ Pour the two milliliter of water on and around the center of the paper towel ⦁ Quickly but gently place the balls on the paper towel. ⦁ Record the amount of pool balls the paper towel holds before tearing and falling into the bowl ⦁ Repeat this step for each brand. Test 2: Water Absorbency Level ⦁ Measure fifty milliliters of water in a graduated cylinder ⦁ Pour the water into a cup ⦁ Submerge one sheet of paper towel into the water ⦁ Remove the towel and allow the excess water to drip back in the cup for ten seconds ⦁ Pour the remaining water back into the cylinder ⦁ Record the amount of water in the cylinder ⦁ Repeat this step twice. ⦁ Add the two recorded number together and divide it by two for the average ⦁ Record the results Test 1: Test 2: Description of Data: The results show that Shop Towels ( Paper Towel D) held twelve pool balls, Paper Towel (Towel A) held zero balls, Viva (Towel B) held eleven balls, Great Value (Towel C) held eight balls, and Bounty Basic (Towel E) held eleven balls.
One sheet of Viva absorbed forty three milliliters, Paper Towel absorbed twenty one milliliters, Great Value absorbed thirty five ml, Bounty Basic absorbed 35.5 ml, and Shop Towels absorbed thirty six ml. Explanation: According to the results, our hypothesis was completely supported. Shop Towels are obviously the strongest out of the brands tested. It consists of a thick tear resistant material that is not easily penetrated. Although, they are intended to be disposable, often usage of Shop Towels over the years has somewhat contradicted that presumption. Undoubtingly, this towel can be reused a time or two for minor jobs, if handled properly. Viva has a cotton like material that makes it perfect for absorbing liquids. Cotton can absorb over twenty percent of its weight. We believe our results to be accurate, but addition tests should be performed to further assure result accuracy.
Conclusion: For the best results out of your paper towel, investing a few more dollars will be very beneficial. The cheaper the paper towel, the more towels required per clean up. Subsequently, resulting in you purchasing many rolls of towels for a job that one good roll can take care of, and still have plenty of sheets remaining for future messes.
Solid A was identified to be sodium chloride, solid B was identified to be sucrose, and Solid C was identified to be corn starch. Within the Information Chart – Mystery White Solid Lab there are results that distinguishes itself from the other 4 experimental results within each test. Such as: the high conductivity and high melting point of sodium chloride, and the iodine reaction of corn starch. Solid A is an ionic compound due to its high melting point and high electrical conductivity (7), within the Information Chart – Mystery White Solid Lab there is only one ionic compound which is sodium chloride, with the test results of Solid A, it can be concluded that is a sodium chloride. Solid B was identified as sucrose due to its low electrical
The most suitable kind of tissue paper to blow a nose with is a soft, absorbent, disposable paper known as a facial tissue. However, many other kinds of tissue paper exist for different purposes besides blowing the nose, depending on varying factors such as thickness, absorbency, and strength. If facial tissues are not available, it is acceptable use tissue papers such as napkins, paper towels, or toilet paper. P...
Waste management is an especially challenging issue of today’s society especially considering the heavy metals and biomedical waste produced within the profession (Muhameddagic, Muhamedagic and Masic, 2009). Dental practices also create large quantities of waste cotton, latex, plastic, glass as well as various other materials which all have the potential to be contaminated with body fluids (Sudhakar & Chandrashekar,
To determine which paper towel has the greatest absorbency. Paper towels were first introduced for the Scott Paper Company of Philadelphia to help prevent the spread of colds from cloth towels in bathrooms (Corkhill & Seder 2008). Paper towels are constructed of giant molecules consisting of smaller molecules of cellulose fibers (Brown 2013). The smaller molecules are made up of sugar molecules, which is the key to the absorption of paper towels.
Their targeted audience is focused around “germ conscious” people (Schenker, 2014). This would influence the audience’s choice to buy the product. The ad gives no proof of ethos. It is not shown in the ad how the consumer is supposed to believe that every hand towel is automatically dirty after one use. Due to this fault, Kleenex gives the viewer no credibility in their product. Why should the viewer assume their towel is too dirty to use? Although the product seems like a good idea at a glance, just how good for the environment can it really be? By replacing regular hand towels with disposable ones, the consumer will be throwing away a towelette every time they wash their hands. Product waste will build up over time. There is no way to measure how much of a negative impact on the environment these hand towels
Proctor & Gamble understands the high competition that already exists in the toilet paper industry, but feel that new Bounty Toilet Paper will change how this industry is geared. In recent times, toilet paper producers have stressed comfort and style in the production of their products, but as the times have changed, the American public is now more interested in getting the job done in the shortest amount of time with the smallest amount of the product. P&G have produced Bounty Toilet Paper because of this change in the lifestyle of Americans. With this focus on effectiveness and durability, Bounty will go into the new Millennium leading the toilet paper world.
Joe Smith, who wrote “how to use a paper towel” on April 2012, is showing people how to use a paper towel right . He wants to save more paper towels by using one per day. Smith is presenting to the audience of TED talk, whom are wealthy and educated people. Smith uses facts and statistics in his speech to add more flavor to the speech and to make it more effective.
LAB REPORT 1st Experiment done in class Introduction: Agarose gel electrophoresis separates molecules by their size, shape, and charge. Biomolecules such as DNA, RNA and proteins, are some examples. Buffered samples such as glycerol and glucose are loaded into a gel. An electrical current is placed across the gel.
Although it was expected that both brands of paper towels would’ve had the same absorbency, with the gathered data in comparison with the hypothesis, the results have contradicted and disproved the stated hypothesis. The Home-brand paper towels was proven to be more absorbent as opposed to the Kleenex brand of paper towels as more water was able to be retained in a smaller area which is evident in the results as the Kleenex paper towels had absorbed 0.5mL of water in a larger area, measuring an average diameter of 6.93cm as compared to the Home-brand paper towel which had a wet patch measuring an average diameter of 4.93cm.
Paper towels are manufactured and woven through 2 separate manufacturing processes:creping and embossing. Creping creates more open areas in the paper for water to enter by using a blade and disrupting fiber-to-fiber bonds in the paper and actually forming a folded structure within the sheet of paper towel. During the embossing process, the surface of the paper towel is changed from a flat surface to a shaped surface. This makes raised areas that create empty spaces between the paper layers. This looks like a design on paper. This design is actually the empty space in the paper towel that lets the towel absorb and hold large amounts of liquid. Napkins, tissues, and toilet paper are not made this way, and therefore they are not as absorbent as paper
There might be possibilities of urine loss with stress incontinence that occur with activities like coughing, sneezing, laughing or lifting a heavy object. These activities increase stress on the abdomen. For this type of incontinence that range from low to moderate level incontinence, pads with thin layers can suitable do the needful for this type of low - level incontinence. Contrary to this situation, adults the having high level of inconsistence some of the adult diapers are designed in such a way that can absorb two cups of liquid. Generally, the incontinence pads are made of cotton if reusable and of paper, if they are disposable pads. They can also be placed on a bed or chair of a person apart from undergarments. They are manufactured in light and heavy grades which have ranged in the level of absorbencies that refers to the level of absorbency, when in
Toilet Paper is one of the most important resources today. But it isn’t something you just wood you cut from a tree, and you magically have toilet paper, well kinda. Toilet paper is made from more than just paper, and has
(Sharifzada, 2011; NAN, 2012).Most of the parasites of concern are so tiny that they cannot be seen by naked eye. For this reason it was stated that it is important that all items are treated as potentially contaminated and washed before use. Agbulu, Gberikon, and Ajine 2015 recommend total avoidance of second hand undergarments and avoidance of children’s wear especially for infants since they are prone to infections but in the case where there is partial avoidance due to the standard of living of consumers, consumers should wash second hand clothes with strong detergents. Undergarments absorb body and skin fluids in the form of sweats and discharges, which contain millions of disease causing microbes including yeasts, parasites, molds, fungi, bacteria and virus. These garments can, thus, serve as possible reservoir for organ and skin infections, when conditions become
Prolonged dry time is a major deterrent for most people who work in health care. If alcohol based hand sanitizers stop the steady flow of work in a busy healthcare facility, healthcare employees will be less likely to use them due to lack of time. In a study done by Macinga, Shumaker, Werner, Edmonds, Leslie, Parker, & Arbogast (2014), it was found that the volume of alcohol based hand rub used in order to be effective in reducing infections, illnesses, and diseases actually increases the dry time required for the alcohol based hand rubs (p. 5). This could lead to decreased compliance in alcohol based hand rub use in healthcare facilities. Healthcare facilities must find alcohol based hand rubs that have an adequate amount of alcohol to still be effective but does not significantly increase the dry time of alcohol based hand
