naive thought about the world. But what we see, it seems that it was another world filled with cruel. First of all, that mantis-like elf made people feel uncomfortable, it was dirty and ugly. The labyrinth was made from a pile of stones, and the Pan also was cunning, everything is not like what we can find in the real fairy tale. When the reality is cruel, that the fairy tale would not truly exist which it will become a cruel fairy tale. This can be connect to Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", the angel was not a real angel in people’s mind. It was a magic masterpiece. Both of this two literary pieces included a fantasy element, they was criticizing about real-world social and political problems. And they was connected to the harsh realities of the Latin America’s society. Also there was blending of symbolic techniques in both stories. Such as, in the "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", the giant wings of the elderly symbolized the traditional culture of Latin America; Pelayo and Elisenda were the symbols of the middle class within Latin American society; Gonzaga priest was representative of the Latin American political and religious dominance. In the film “Pan’s Labyrinth” , the lazy toad swallowed the three jewels that symbolized "democracy", "freedom" and "equality." And Ofelia's stepfather, fascists general Vidal symbolized the right-wing General Francisco Franco. Ophelia found a key from the toad, the key was a symbol of open the future of Spain. Likewise, in the "Pan’s Labyrinth," the director emphasized at least three times Ofelia's "leftist" position.
At the beginning of the film, Ofelia and her mother drove to the captain's camp. When she picked up the remaining piece of the status on their way, she putted it into the head of the statute. We note that she putted on the left side of the eye. From then on, the little girl will be able to see the elf that the human world can not see. It seems that Ofelia found from the left-wing perspective. Then, she began to "see the world using left eye." Moreover, when they arrived at the camp, Ofelia met the captain for the first time. In the scene that they shaked hand was interesting. Ofelia holded a several fairy tale books in her right hand, trembling stretched out her left hand. As the captain of the fascist officer, he stretched out his right hand, grabbed her left hand, coldly said: "it's the other hand, Ofelia." A left-wing meet with the right-wing, break up in discord. A few minutes later, in the labyrinth Ofelia solemnly said to Mercedes: Captain is not my father. Firm severed any legal dictatorship with the right-wing. Ofelia went to the pale man's underground palace to perform the Pan's second task. There was three wickets on the wall. In accordance with the instructions of several elves, she should open the middle door. Ofelia hesitated and opened the door to the left, and took out a shining dagger. Elf pointed out the middle road, Ofelia once again adhered to her left-wing
position. In conclusion, "Pan's Labyrinth" was a fairytale for adults. Like all the fairy tale will have a happy ending. "Pan's Labyrinth" is no exception, but this layer of happiness was immersed in the bitter and depressed in deep. Too much blood and tears, too much darkness. Ofelia finally found her parents, returned to the eternal sweet home, but not one can really happy together. A fairy tale is a hope and a dream. It is a comfort and the ideal world. "Pan's Labyrinth" is such a fairy tale, Ofelia through the murky darkness of the labyrinth find her happiness, just as the Spanish who experienced the brutal history. Guillermo applied a metaphor at the end. The end of the tragedy is the film's superficial cover, in essence, it is the protagonist Ofelia's comedy ending.
The left door which they entered was a dead end. After sprinting a hundred yards, they ran into an enormous boulder that completely blocked their way. They could hear something breathing heavily which didn't sound human. Tyson pushed the boulder blocking the place where they could hear the heavy breathing and soon Annabeth realized they were in Alcatraz so she told the group about it.
The movie the Labyrinth tells a story about a group of unlikely heroes trying to make their way though a maze in order to defeat the Goblin King. The story starts out with the main character Sarah whom, without even realizing it, wishes her baby brother to be taken way by Jareth the Goblin King. He tells her that if she wants her brother back she will have to make her way through the labyrinth and to the castle beyond the Goblin City. She only has 13 hours to complete the seemingly impossible task or her little brother Toby will be turned into a goblin. While making her way through the twisted and endless maze Sarah runs into many weird characters. The first person she encounters is Hoggle a very untrustworthy dwarf whom is under the influence of Jareth. He is selfish and does things only if there is something for him to gain. He betrays Sarah many times throughout the movie, but in the end he proves himself to be more than a traitorous coward. Ludo is a yeti and despite looking vicious is a gentle and caring monster. Ludo also has the power to control rocks. Sir Didymis is a loudmouthed, but noble knight who displays his valor throughout the movie. The four heroes manage to fight their way through the perilous labyrinth. The Goblin King Jareth is defeated and Sarah’s brother Toby is saved. Though the characters in this movie seemed to be nothing more than ordinary, and if not odd, they fought their way through labyrinth and conquered an entire army of evil goblins and their king. Are friends the best resources when in need? Yes, no? Well in these stories they are. Like in Harry Potter, he used his friends all the time like when he is wondering Voldemort is still really still alive who are the people that he comes to…his friends. Or in The Maze Runner Thomas when thomas is wondering about if he should go out in the maze and face the greevier’s. Who are the people that he goes to...his friends! In these two stories Harry Potter and The Maze Runner there are some similarities, but there are also some differences.
Primo Levi once said, " Human memory is a marvelous but fallacious instrument. The memories which lie within us are not carved in stone; not only do they tend to become erased as the years go by, but often they change, or even increase by incorporating extraneous features.." The memory of a human being is a fascinating matter, but it is not something that stays with us forever. Memories will often change or multiply with unnecessary information, but they are what define you as you.

Regardless of race, gender, or religion there are times when humans have internal battles with themselves, and are unable to perform actions. Such is showcased brilliantly throughout the novel The Battle of The Labyrinth written by Rick Riordan. The protagonists of the novel Percy, Annabeth, and Briares all face internal conflicts. All the internal conflicts of the protagonist’s stem from self-doubt, and questioning personal morals.
It is not often that a strong and significant female character is introduced in a movie and/or book as the main character. Pan’s Labyrinth, though not the typical fairy tale, introduces the viewer to three females that prove controversial and necessary to the plot, which passes the Bechdel Test, designed to identify gender bias in the media. There is Carmen, the loving mother, Ofelia, the supposed princess/innocent girl, and then there is Mercedes, Captain Vidal’s maid and rebel spy. These three women show different portrayals, different characterizations, of how women should defy the gender bias in films.
“Fear me,love me,do as I say,I’ll be your slave” says Jareth The Goblin King from the Labyrinth. By using irony, the author of a story can create a surprising events. Authors use multiple kinds of irony to make stories more surprising.

Her inner struggle is most obvious in the scene where she hesitates to give in to her desire to see the narrator 's chick and the language in which it is portrayed is almost violent. “Help me, her body said, as painfully divided into two.” (96) it says in the text, a rather extreme description of a little girl wishing to play with a chick. But the narrator recognises her own struggle in Ofélia, can see herself giving birth in her giving in to her desires. Because of this, the narrator then tries her best to help Ofélia through the painful process, leading back to the beginning of the story where she called herself a messenger. “Shall I risk it? shall I give way to feeling? she asked herself. Yes, she replied to herself, through me.” (97) She is the one providing Ofélia with an understanding of what she is going through. She already knows the courage it takes to give in to the love that only mothers can understand, to its desires, and in providing silent comfort is able to guide her through the process. For the duration of it, the narrator functions as a mother figure for Ofélia who is becoming a mother and a child at the same time. This is supported by the imagery in the scene. The narrator describes her transformation as “her entire body [becoming] swollen and deformed” (96) and

I unwilllingly walked through the entrance of regret and guilt. With teary eyes from what happened the night before, I didn’t know what I could say. All I thought was ‘It was an accident’ but that didn’t matter anymore.
Approximately five years into Francisco Franco's regime, Pan’s Labyrinth takes place in Post-Civil War Spain as it reveals a beautiful childlike fantasy film with terrifying wonderment and curious delight. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro, the film depicts a dark fantasy that tells the story of our young protagonist, Ofelia and is told through this child's perspective. In the beginning of the film, Ofelia and her very pregnant mother travel to a military base near the mountains to live with her new stepfather, Captain Vidal, who is stationed there to fight against the rebels with his troops. Looking for Alaska by John Green, published in 2005 by Dutton Children's Books is a young adult fiction book. The theme of the book in my opinion is The Labyrinth of suffering. Throughout the book Miles suffers, he suffers while looking for his “Great Perhaps”, he suffers by not not knowing if Alaska will ever love him back, and Miles and his friends suffer after losing Alaska. I very well enjoyed the book, it gave an honest relation to teenagers and the over mature and intelligent minds of the characters. Green succeeded in captivating his audience with a great storyline and plot twist.
