Ever since its publication in 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird has turned into one of the most widely-read novels in all of twentieth century American literature, and a noticeable work of social realism. Regardless of its universal plea, it is a novel set in a specific time and place. Though published in the 1960s at the elevation of the American Civil Rights Movement, the novel is set in the 1930s.The novel To Kill a Mockingbird principally revolves around a small family of three -- Atticus Finch, an attorney, and his two children, Scout and Jem. Gurevitch argues that the awareness of others and their differences from us awakens our realization of our own uniqueness (1180) the children’s journey in this book brings them to maturity but The notion of the Other is obvious in the social growth of Scout and Jem, regarding class rank, and gender issues and even in the children's interest in Boo Radley. Scout and Jem find out what kind of behaviour their society want them to uphold through the behaviours both of those who are of their rank such as Miss Maudie, Atticus, and even Aunt Alexandra and of those Others the outsiders, like Tom Robinson, Calpurnia;the maid , "Boo" Radley, and the Ewells.
