The nutritional plan that my group came up with is a paleo based diet. We came up with this idea because Mikaela, one of our group members, already follows this diet, so we all thought it would be an interesting one to try. We gave each other the option of modifying the diet to fit our own needs, whether it be personal, or family based. My alteration to the paleo diet is to substitute dairy with almond or soy milk. This way, I can cut out dairy, but still be allowed the option of a similar food.
The paleo diet was created in order to cut out unnecessary processed foods and refined sugars from the way we eat. It is based on what people are made to eat, such as meats, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. The diet eliminates harmful, processed foods
The first diet I choose to look at was the Bulletproof diet (the one my brother is following) started by Dr. David Perlmutter. Bulletproof is the more extreme version of Paleo even if Dr. Perlmutter isn’t exactly following the Paleo diet, since his own modified version of this is the Bulletproof diet, I decided to use him to be a base for Paleo since he is the most publicized speaker about this diet. Dr. Perlmutter’s diet is filled with controversy; one of his claims is that wheat is an opiate; this has ...
Escape from the Western Diet, by Michael Pollen, is about the argument of what is best for people to consume in order to avoid certain ailments caused by what they eat. There are many who believe certain factors such as eating too much fat or refined carbohydrates or missing certain nutrients are to blame for the poor state of health of westerners. The reason for that is that it provides for a quick easy answer to dieting issues. The author believes that all these things may have some contribution to poor health but the overall nemesis is the western diet itself.
My Negative eating habits and recent medical troubles are what prompted me to choose a healthier diet as my behavior Change Projects. I recently went to the doctor and I was informed of my high triglyceride levels and I was put on medication. In addition, I am vitamin D and B deficient. After, visiting my doctor I knew I had to make a change in my life. In the Past year I have gained a little over ten pounds. My overall Kcal average for the three days I recorded was 4,318, while my Daily recommended intake was 3,484. In terms of Kcal, I am eating more calories per day than recommended. Breaking it down a bit farther to percent of carbohydrates, I ate 110 percent of my Daily Required Intake for Carbohydrates, specifically 39.1 g more than recommended. The daily recommendation for protein is ten to thirty-five percent,
...y with occasional adjustments every now and then, does seem to produce some marginal benefits for overall health, promoting significant decreases in blood sugar, insulin, and cholesterol levels. The Paleo Diet however, is only just a quick short-term fix and certainly not for everyone. Anyone can lose weight on a diet but maintaining that weight loss is usually much easier said than done. It takes not only enormous will power and dedication but also incredible belief in the diet’s effectiveness to keep dieters going on their exhausting diets and most dieters, no matter the diet, eventually give up on their weight loss regimens. Given that it seems to make little difference in the end whether we restrict things in our pantries or not, maybe, the best diet in the world is just to have, as famously stated by Julia Child, “everything in moderation…including moderation.”
Americans should eliminate their regular consumption of animal products and processed foods. This type of diet leads to preventable and expensive health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and even death. Most Americans don’t realize that the majority of the food being advertised to them is literal garbage that’s infusing their bodies with toxins on a daily basis. As Americans, we take pride and joy in our food, given the fact that it’s so darn tasty. We find comfort in eating a cheeseburger with French fries and slurping down a 44-ounce cola. However, what we eat has a far more detrimental effect on our health than most of us are aware of. To some, making the switch to a raw food diet might seem to be taking a drastic measure.
The question comes up again; “How is your diet?” Jessica revisited her diet analysis from the first week of class. She noticed that some things have changed and some things, unfortunately, have not changed. She knew that some things would not change because of the hectic and busy semester and summer she had ahead of her but the things that did change surprised her. This class did some good for her, but she still needs some work on her diet and nutrition.
Nutrition, I have learned plays a big part in our life. To be honest I was clueless about how much nutrition affected our everyday lives. I love going to the gym working out, now that I know what should go into my diet I think I will see a lot more improvement. I occasionally follow the latest diet fads because I believed it would be better for my health, but in turn it really hurt more than it helped! This Diet Analysis project has been extremely useful course because I can personally relate to it and can use much of the information learned to my daily routines. The Diet Analysis project was a real eye opener because it let me see what exactly I was putting into my diet.
The new diet revolution has stirred up a controversial debate on whether the higher fat, lower carb diet is healthy in the long run for diet consumers. Some people say that it is not a healthy diet and that it includes too much fat, while others say it is the only weight loss diet that has finally helped them to take off a significant amount of weight. The diet became an instant craze since it has been proven that many Americans eat excessive amounts of simple carbohydrates such as rice, alcohol, sugar, white flour, and sugar. As a result of the surge in obesity and high calorie intakes, the Atkins diet aims to eliminate the simple carbohydrate consumption by replacing it with high fat, high animal protein foods such as bacon, sausage, butter, steak, eggs, and brie. These rich foods are allowed as part of the diet since it claims that you will lose weight fast while just following the routine.
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
Nutrition is a very controversial and confusing topic. One day coffee is bad for you, but the next day it is good. Alcohol is detrimental for our health one day, but the next day red wine is the elixir of life. There are dozens of diet plans and they promise a leaner and healthier body. There is the 3-Hour Diet that involves constantly eating small portions of anything we want to eat. The latest diet craze, the Paleo Diet, is based upon eating foods that our “hunter-gatherer ancestors” would have thrived on during the Paleolithic era. And there is the Blood Type Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Macrobiotic Diet, the Mediterranean Diet, and the list goes on. But who and what should we believe? Well, there is an optimal diet for humans and the answer might surprise many.
For years, I have been eating what I want. Food choices are a significant factor that affects our health. What we like or crave, often, is the determining variable in what we eat. Finding the right balance of food choices is the key factor in improving our health benefits. Choosing nutrient-dense foods will provide more nutritional value than foods that are found to be low in nutrient density. Making the right choices in foods, however, is extremely difficult. Often, I find myself enthralled in the latest fad, not considering the subtext of the foods I am eating, such as nutrients, vitamins, healthy fats and unhealthy fats, cholesterol and minerals. The diet project underlined a three-day food entry intake that provided a dietary analysis report
The Paleo Diet is one of the most popular diets of today not only because a lot of famous celebrities have tried it out but more importantly because it is known to be really effective.
The members of the Homo genus possess a combination of unique features that distinguish them from other related species. At the time that each respective species was alive, they were able to walk upright on two legs, use their large brains for the benefit of their species, and could thrive in many geographically and climatically diverse areas of the world. One of the most mysterious quandaries in science is how the lineage of the Homo genus became so different from their primate relatives. Bipedalism, brain size, and location diversity all have a common link that may explain this difference – dietary evolution allowed humans to adapt to their surroundings, and in turn, become a more advanced species. The Homo diet evolved in relation to food availability and nutritional necessity. With the ability to maintain a proper diet, the species of the Homo genus were able to flourish and advance toward the development of modern Homo sapiens.
This diet consists of: seafood, meats, fruits, vegetables and nuts. According to Loren Cordain, the author of The Paleo Diet, “The diet decreases the body’s glycemic load, expands the vitamin and nutrient consumption, has a healthy ratio of saturated and unsaturated fats, and consists of a good balance of fat, protein and carbohydrates.” (2). This diet is all about eating fresh foods and foods directly from nature. There are many things you cannot eat when you are on this diet. Some examples are: grains, dairy and processed food. Processed food is anything that comes in a jar, box or bag. I feel as if this diet is hard to stick to nowadays because most people find it convenient to just heat something up or grab a snack and go. There are many advantages as well as disadvantages to the paleo diet. Some advantages include: losing weight, no chemicals or additives, and a larger intake of iron and protein.” (Bonci 1). This diet will definitely make you feel better about yourself as a result of weight loss and consuming healthy food. Along with these advantages there are just as many disadvantages. Some of these disadvantages include: no grains or dairy which are essential for energy, strong bones and health, you can potentially have a nutrient imbalance, it is a hard diet for athletes, picky eaters and vegetarians and these foods tend to be more pricey (Bonci 1).
