After several years of experience volunteering and working with children, I recognize that my ultimate dream is to become a paediatric registered nurse. I have a genuine passion when it comes to working with children and their families. It is the most rewarding and fulfilling feeling to be remembered for making a positive difference in the lives of children and their families. Since the paediatric population is vulnerable, I believe it is essential to obtain as much paediatric nursing experience as possible, while still in school. Thus, I will have developed a strong knowledge base and the necessary skills to work as a paediatric registered nurse, upon graduation. In particular, I desire to work at SickKids as this organization shares similar values to my own. Specifically, SickKids and I share the values of excellence, compassion and collaboration. I belive it is essential when working with such a vulernable population to aim for excellent and compassion care, which can be accomplished by working with an efficient and effective team.
Moreover, the three particular areas I am very interested in include: Psychiatry and Adoloescent Medicine, Paediatric Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Respiratory Medicine, Genetics

Since I have an extreme interest in mental health, I believe I would be well suited in this environment. I had the pleasure of working at The George Hull Centre, for my Fall 2017 clinical placement, which is a centre that specializes in mental health for children ages 0-6. This was a very enriching and rewarding experience. I plan to pursue a career in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. This career take many steps to complete. But it is different routes you can take and different programs you can enroll in for this profession. Family Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medication and diagnose patients and give treatment. They can work either in hospitals and or clinics as a primary healthcare provider. They can also order specific x-rays and test that need to be done for a patient. The nurse practitioners interact with less patients in a clinic than in a hospital. Np’s have privileges to prescribe medications in every state.
When people think of a pediatric nurse practitioner, they normally think of a person who performs examinations, takes blood samples, and measures vital signs of children who are sick. What they don’t see are the countless hours spent getting to know the patient, showing sympathy and understanding, and having to explain the diagnosis and treatment plans to the parents and sometimes to the child. According to my career cruising inventory, any job in the medical field would be right for me. However, after reading the descriptions, I concluded that a pediatric nurse practitioner was the best path. My first experience with children was when I would babysit younger kids. Caring for them while they were sick brought a sense of joy nursing them back to health. After doing this for so long, I grew a passion for taking care of children as a profession. Working as a registered nurse for over six years has given me the opportunity to experience firsthand and understand the huge impact, either negative or positive, that health care providers can have in their patients’ wellbeing.
