Pad foundations
Pad foundation is a foundation that builds to support the individual or multiple columns and spread the load to the ground surface below. Normally, pad foundation is built in square or rectangular in shape. The plan area of the footing is determined by calculating the permissible bearing pressure of the soil. Besides, the construction of the pad foundation is design by the arrangement of the columns and the load which to be transferred into the soil.
Furthermore, the thickness of the slab must be designed properly to ensure that the distribution of the load can be spread properly to the ground.
2.1.1.6 Rubble trench foundations
The function of the rubble trench foundation is same as the normal foundation which to sustain the load of the structural. Rubble trench foundation is a continuous trench that filled with crushed stone and topped with a certain grade of concrete beam. Rubble trench foundation provides both structural bearing and water drainage in a single foundation system. The width of the trench of the beam is build to determine the bearing capacity against the load. Besides that, the stone filled at the bottom provide the cover for the continuous drain along the entire of the foundation perimeter. On the other hand, it provides the prevention of potential heaving caused by the water freeze at the bottom of the building structure.
The reinforced concrete grade beam (or thickened slab perimeter) distributes the building load evenly across the gravel footer. The size of the grade beam and placement of rebar depends on building loads and should be designed by an engineer. Besides of the piling for the construction, concrete pile can be used for other ways of construction. Concrete pile can used to become a concrete pile walls which resist the soil collapse for a temporary or permanent uses. Moreover, dam construction also use the concrete pile as to reinforce the levees and other structural which might be at the risk of collapse.
Furthermore, concrete pile can be cast in different range of size. As an engineer who designs the foundation of the structural, the concrete pile size is important to withstand the load from the structural. Besides the size of the concrete pile, the engineer performs the supervisor as to monitor the test pile before and after the installing of the concrete pile. The reason is because the quality of the concrete pile may change or reduce due to some problem of the installation or soil quality.

The most economical method for ground improvement is aggregate piers. Before aggregate piers were used, engineers had to replace the weak soil with an engineering fill in order to use shallow foundations, but in some cases (load is very high) they had to use deep foundations, which is much more expensive. By using aggregate piers, we can now use shallow foundations in marginal soil without having to replace it. By using compacted aggregate to create stiff pier element, aggregate piers help to increase the bearing capacity, liquefaction resistance, shear strength, rate of consolidation and it reduces settlement.

Proper design of foundation required a strong basis on mechanics, but should also be enhanced by the satisfactory performance of the foundation. Soil types can affect structures in different ways, such as strength and stiffness, which will may cause stable foundation or lead to collapse. In fact, history cases helps to avoid such failure may occur in future design of foundations.
In this report, we will introduce and illustrate on precast concrete, pre-stressed concrete, ready-mix concrete, reinforced concrete, terrazzo and Urbanite in details.
Formwork is a model including all supporting structure, used shape and support the concrete until it attains sufficient strength to carry its own weight. It should be possible of carrying all imposed dead and live load apart from its own weight.

... although we may never be able to understand exactly what soil failures can occur when a natural disasters take place, as time goes on and testing instruments and materials advance we will hopefully have a better understanding of what we can do to avoid soil failures and come up with a better and more sufficient method of improving the soils structure and strength permanently. While researching the information for this report I feel I have a much better understanding for construction geo-technics and foundations especially regarding the deformation, liquefaction and pile information related to this specific event. I hope to carry the information I have learned from this event into the construction field and apply them towards an authentic project that’s taking place and know that the information, regarding soils, I have given input on will be precise and accurate.
