JOB DESCRIPTION
Pilots are able to get in various size aircrafts, this is depending on the level of the pilot and what they are approved to fly. As you gradually increase in rankings in aviation, you will be able to fly bigger and more powerful aircrafts, they are also able to carry more weight whilst flying. Pilots will have a destination they need to travel to and their goal is to get to that destination. Depending what type of pilot you are depends how many hours you work. As a commercial pilot you have to fly a certain amount of hours to move up in rankings, this is totally up to you how often you want to fly and how many hours you want to spend in the air. As a full time airline pilot then can work up to 33.2 hours on average a week. A pilot is eligible of up to 25 days of sick leave per year, if they are unable and do not meet requirements to fly. Compared to other careers, holidays as a pilot is very unorthodox, it’s called on/off work. As you may have thought as a pilot you wouldn’t get much holidays, it is actually pretty good. For the ones who do chose to do a degree it really shows and can separate a huge majority of people from the good to the great. Achieving not only a degree, but also your flying licences shows airlines that you are well rounded as an individual and puts you on top of others for example that don't have a degree. There are a various amount of different degrees that are offered by universities. There have been many people in the field that have graduated from these courses. The people that go through these courses all come out saying they truly enjoyed it, they also say that because of these courses they get looked upon in favour by airlines in front of those who did not attend a course. When you start your aviation career, it takes a long time to get to the top level. You need to gain experience by spending as much time possible in the air, your ranking and experience as a pilot is determined by how much you fly and how many hours you have flown. Starting off with an airline you will more than likely start as a first officer, this means you will be second in command of the aircraft (after the captain obviously) There are limitations for new qualified first officers, such as airports you can and can’t fly in to.
