What influence does popular music have on the everyday lives of fans? In particular what influence does Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne from the ‘heavy metal’ genre of music have?
Where is the best place to start when talking about ‘heavy metal? Right back in 1968 when a band named ‘Earth’ renamed themselves (because of politics within the music industry) Black Sabbath. Taken from the horror film produced by Mario Bava. Most people have heard of Black Sabbath because of their place in music history and if not they most likely have heard about them because of their lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. With Black Sabbath’s first self titled album climbing through the charts (reaching no. 8 in the UK), did the term ‘heavy metal’ come about. The bands music

Osbourne got fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 because of his life style but his fans stuck by him. Sharon Osbourne his wife, became his manager. Ozzy turned his life round and toured as a solo artist, until he rejoined Black Sabbath in 1997. Ozzy Osbourne one of the founders of heavy metal became such a music industry icon, satellite navigation systems had a voice over of Ozzy Osbourne, to navigate the driver. There was a reality television show called ‘The Osbournes’. Other family members of the Osbournes made television shows, but none was as successful as Sharon. Mrs Osbounre went on to be a judge on one of societies favourites ‘The X Factor’, a competitive show that pits musical artists against each other for first place. The majority of the acts being influenced by very different genres of music, not one of them being heavy metal, where Sharon first started her relationship with Ozzy and supported his music. The development of heavy metal has gone round in complete circle, because Sharon Osbourne has a influence in the mainstream popular music, whilst Black Sabbath are touring the last tour in 2012, still as strong as they where back in …show more content…
It has influenced design companies to allow satellite navigation to have the voice of icons from the music industry to record the navigation commands. It has influenced reality television shows, competitive shows and of course the music industry, creating more fans through different avenues but in some way staying connected to heavy metal. It has influenced peoples lives, making ‘outcasts’ or people with alternative lifestyles feel apart of something, belonging to a group of people with the same passion towards heavy metal, even if it is the
The members of Black Sabbath got interested in music by listening to music. Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne both got into music because they liked the Beatles. The Beatles inspired them to play music. Bill Ward's mom and dad love music.
As with any other Sunday of the year, it was time to mow the grass yet again. Me, my brother and my father are the men for the job on these nice hot days. We all plug into our headphones into our ears as if to escape from the labor that is mowing. This day however, is very different from all the rest. My father, instead of listening to his calming house music while on our riding lawn mower, decides to listen to heavy metal. Next thing you know, our lawn mower has a bent wheel and blade from him crashing into things. This is just one real life example of how music can take you from calm, cool, and collected to angry and destructive. From seeing how one person can react to angry music how would a whole society react to music as a whole group?

Throughout America’s history there have been countless influential leaders that have proudly been American. Those have held positions of politicians, soldiers, and . Kanye Omari West has opened the eyes of today's generation and still continues to shape American history. His musical influence has transformed the lives of countless people. Inspiring many to stand up and fight for what they believe in is something Kanye West continues to do even today.. Also, opening the eyes of many to racial injustice towards African American citizens. I’ll further elaborate my claim in the following paragraphs using historical evidence.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Rock ‘n’ roll was a controversial yet fashionable genre of popular music that emerged in the early 1950s (America in the World, 1776 to the Present : A Supplement to the Dictionary of American History: Mâ€'Z, Index. 2016, p896-899.). Its origin is also started from the revolution of bourgeois. The younger generation had gone through the Second World War, though, the older generation had treated kids. Two generations that had each world war had divided. A lot of the pain and anger felt by the younger generation made them to resist against the social establishment. As a result, the war had created a gulf between generations but further reduced the gap between blacks and whites. The youth of the 1950s felt unconnected to their society and began looking at the world more globally, and also began looking for new role models who reflected their ideas and beliefs. They knew that ideas of old generation would no longer work in a modern society. Thus several young leaders stood out and took center stage that setting the pace for the direction of society and its music form that point on. At this time, technical innovations had emerged such as electric guitar and electric bass. This is the impetus of creation of music including rock ‘n’
Heavy metal in the 1980’s is hard to describe. Its static style did not change much from the 1970’s, but the lyrics, image, and theatrics took a step forward. Heavy metal had a huge impact in the 1980’s and there were many successful bands.
...le genres of music have been accused of selling out during the 80's Heavy Metal and Glam Rock were fused by bands such as Motley Crue and Poison to make Glam Metal which hardcore metal fans hated as it was not deemed authentic due to its over the top and feminine feel.
As the nineteen seventies came to a close so did many of the musical styles of that decade. While some faced what seemed to be extinction others went through a sort of evolutionary process. The bands that were at the top of the heavy metal ladder during this time were such acts as Motorhead, Iron Maiden, and Tygers of Pan Tang. These groups would be just some of what the new crop of heavy metal bands would consider inspirational. This style, which is typically referred to as "The New Wave of British Heavy Metal," would fuel and empower many acts to stardom. (Marshall 3)
It is difficult to show the effects of music on the individual, but it is easy to see how the individual chooses genres of music based on mood. The soldiers in Iraq, for instance, listened to a song by the band Drowning Pool titled, “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor,” over the speakers in their tanks. After listening to the song it would be easy to see that they didn’t just choose the song because they thought it pertained to their current situation. The song is loud, fast, and hard. The song fueled the soldiers. I don’t think that it made them into bloodthirsty savages, but I do think that it pumped them up with adrenaline. Walk into any random Gold’s Gym and I’m sure you will not hear classical or new age music, but instead some sort of rock. David in the Bible played music to soothe Saul. Due to David’s harp and voice Saul calmed down and fell asleep. This is present even in today’s society. After work, school, or any other long, exhausting event, it isn’t uncommon for people to go home and put on some soothing music in order to cure them of their horrible day.
Seventies punk culture spawned the visually distinctive goth and emo subcultures. Inheriting the folk tradition of the protest song, rock music associated with political activism as well as changes in social attitudes to race, sex and drug use. This was often seen as an expression of youth revolt against adult consumerism an...
Doom metal is the original form of the genre. It was invented when Tony Iommi, Black Sabbath’s guitarist, lost two fingertips on his fretting hand in a factory accident. Iommi made himself replacement fingertips out of glass. It was difficult to press strings with the new fingers, so Iommi tuned his guitar
In rock music its target audience is the youth. And by youth I am not referring to teenagers, but instead to the mentality of youth, the adults and teens still in the sociological stage between being a ‘kid’ and accepting the responsibilities of ‘adulthood’ [Weinstein pg6] These youth negotiate the genre and change it to their liking. For example both males and females have different subgenres of rock targeted specifically at them. Males are seen from a young age as being naughty and rowdy, not very responsible and thus given more freedom. While girls are seen as quiet and polite, with very low aggression. These traits have reflected in the genres that are targeted at the two genders. Males were targeted with Heavy Metal as it expressed the qualities the very qualities they will have to give up in order to become adults and how they will lose their freedom. While for females rock music is soft and romantic, females will typically grow up faster than males and leave youth behind in order to take up responsibilities. An example of how the music was negotiated to fit the two genders is seem in the 1960s when performers such as Carole king and James Taylor transformed themes of protest into sentimental commentaries, romance and illusions of youth. [Weinstein pg 12-13] While heavy metal bands such as Black Sabbath sung about politicians and how disgusting they are for exploiting young people in the name of greed which is shown in the song Wicked World. This very characteristic of rock being created by the youth for the youth is still alive today, for example during the 2004 presidential election Green Day released American Idiot. The song was about how the media and political are brainwashing Americans to remove their individuality. The singer wanted to warn America of this and prevent them from turning into ‘idiots’ and
