The smartphone industry is growing every year, not just in sales but also in phone size. Before 2007 the only smartphones available in the United States were Blackberries and Palm Pilots. When these two brands were the only choice of smartphones, smaller screens were preferred. However that all changed after June 29, 2007 when the first iPhone device was released by Apple. The original iPhone had a 3.5-inch screen and at the time, this was the biggest screen available on a smartphone. In the following years numerous smartphones would be released with a bigger screen. Smartphones might be increasing in size every year because consumers have shown an interest in bigger devices, new features require more space, bigger phone are beneficial to people with poor vision, and a bigger screen allow for more customization.
One reason smartphone companies are making bigger smartphones is that bigger device are what the consumers wants. The demand for larger phone has been around since early 2010. According to Engadget, in 2010 bigger Android phones were on the rise. “Samsung managed to sell 10 million units of the flagship smartphone [Samsung Galaxy S3] by the start of 2011, proving that 4-inch or larger phones could be popular” (Engadget). Later in 2011 Samsung released it’s Galaxy Note “phablet”. A “phablet” is the nickname given to a device that is a hybrid of a smartphone and a tablet. There were 10 million Samsung Galaxy Notes sold within the year of its production. The Galaxy Note 2, which followed after the original Note, had even more success than its predecessor. “phablets” have successfully fulfill a desire for more space. The bigger smartphones that we see today were inspired by the success of tablets. Tablets first took the world...

On a year to year basis the industry has grown 72.95 percent and on an quarter to quarter has grown 26.94 percent. This growth allows Apple to innovate and continue to lead the way in the industry (Total markets). As the industry grows Apple Inc grows with it as well. In 2014 Apple announced some very disappointing figures for its iPhone sales that had everyone thinking that it 's glory days when Steve Jobs ran the company is behind them. Then they reported the largest quarterly profit ever for a publicly traded company ever. This changed the mindset of everyone. Mr. Cook of Apple Inc stated “We certainly believe there are legs to it” when he commented about the iPhone sales growth. Some figures that he stated include that fewer than 15 percent of older iPhone owners upgraded to the iPhone 6 or 6 plus. Along with the majority of the people who did switch were from the Android operating system.
The iPhone is easily better than any Android design because of the sleek and sharp design and a colorful display that attracts the widest range of consumers with interest and awe. The phone’s design has been greatly thought out and is well built for anyone. Brooke Crothers, a writer for Cnet.com, explains the simple yet artistic build of the phone, “Thinness, in my book, is the foundation for coolness. But thinness isn't just an aesthetic bonus; it can be practical too. In this case, Apple stretched out the 4S just enough to allow for a bigger screen, while making it lighter and easi...

In today’s society, smartphones have inevitably taken cellular phone sales by storm. Flip phones and home phones, with the classic 9 number keyboards, are being replaced with touch screens that allow for more interactive and advanced phones. The Apple iPhone and the Google Android are two examples of how technology is advancing the way we communicate. These smartphones, backed by each company’s unique business models, have changed the way cellular devices are used and sold.
Cell phone manufacturers and service providers are at the core of the cell phone industry. These corporations are integral from their research and development endeavors to interactions with the consumer and the marketing of new products. The companies that control such factors of cellular phones are very numerous, so it is difficult to address all the cell phone manufacturers and service providers. However, we have focused largely on only the most significant cellular companies namely in the U.S. marketplace, although many have global ties. Collectively, companies around the world have the same goals in mind – to create desirable cutting-edge technology and to increase consumer satisfaction with hopes of generating sales, and thus profits.
With ever increasing technology it is easier and more economical to manufacture these phones. This then results in more investors entering into the market and creating more competition
When searching for the latest device you have a choice between apple, and android. These two are similar but very different. Infact these both have two different operating systems. For instance Apple uses IOS 9, apple phones can use this software. On android the software 5.0 is used. All these phones run different programs, you need to make sure that is the right phone for you. There are many different features and styles of phones you can get. Also these all come at a price. This paper will talk about all these topics to make sure you have an idea on what device you would like to buy.
Many of the early cell phones were considered “car phones” because they were extremely bulky and too big to fit into one's pocket. The first mobile phone due to its smaller size would still be considered overly large in today’s world. It was called the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x and arrived on the market in 1983. “You always have the trendsetters who are not afraid of trying new things and then everyone else follows. They were primarily used in the sales and business world, but not often for personal use like you see today” ("Ai InSite"). As technology advanced, companies invented new ways to pack all their customer’s desired features into smaller, portable, and more affordable models. Companies started with a cell phone size as big as a computer and have now created small enough devices to keep in a pocket. They have created bigger screens, built-in cameras, phones with less buttons, and many have touch screens now days. The shape of cell phones have drastically changed over the years.
The global demand for cell phones has increased significantly over the years-from 284 million in 1999 to 410 million units in 2000 to 510 million units in 2001.
Unveiled at one of its parent company presentations, the iPhone was given to us early January of 2007. Steve Jobs wanted to revolutionize the mobile phone industry with internet access mainstreamed on your mobile phone, a touch-screen that was capable of the “pinch-pull” methods of ease, piggybacked concepts that came from the iPod predecessor, along with all of the other features you could find on the current mobile phone technology network. Steve Jobs had hit a homer with his product! Upon its initial release, the phone was priced at around $600 if you wanted the eight gig model and a modest $500 for the four gig option if you signed on board with it’s exclusive service partner/provider AT&T.(1) Even though the skeptics said that the price was way too absurd to jump on board with, its initial hype was excessive. When the need for bigger and better technology soon became not only a rivalry, but a business for two companies, Apple and Samsung soon began a feud that would be recognized worldwide. The iPhone was the first of a great line of smartphones that was able to complete tasks that were able to make driving, talking, texting, education and all aspects of life easier. Apple had really outdone all other smart phone companies until Samsung developed the Galaxy phone in May of 2012. This phone had a few capabilities that were not on the iPhone, and had stolen a few ideas from the Apple Company as well. This battle between companies soon leads to a lawsuit between the two in which Samsung was made to pay Apple for stealing certain ideas. This has since stopped neither company from producing smart phones that are constantly becoming bigger and better with each new creation. Smart phones are not the only “smart” creation that has come about in recent times. Companies such as Vizio and Samsung have now created smart TV’s that have internet access, Bluetooth programming and recording options for when you’re not able to watch your favorite movie or TV show. This advancement in technology would certainly stop our grandparents in their tracks and make them think. We’ve certainly come a long way from “colored”
The year is 2014, the markets are changing constantly, and they always have to meet the needs of new consumers as well as old consumers. Mobile telephones have been in the retail and wholesale business for quite some time, and are only evolving from here on out. There are things that these cell phones can bring us that are major benefits in our everyday lives. Cell phones bring us maps, radios, address books, and even flashlights now. Cell phones have taken shape from a huge portable device to a more convenient thin device that can fit in your pocket. With time in any consumer market, the consumer adapts to the technology that makes their life easier. The constant innovation of cell phones has led us to smart phones, and these smart phones are capable of putting certain businesses out of the market. Businesses that engineered PDAs in the past were met with challenges because smart phones are able to match their productivity. Land lines have become useless since everyone can afford a mobile device now. Listening to music has also switched from a traditional CD Player/MP3 Player to an everyday smart phone.
The very first iPhone was announced by the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, in 2007. His vision was to reinvent the phone. iPhones have revolutionized smartphones and have shaped the cell phone industry into what it is today. On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs put together an incredible keynote presentation. He stated that he would be “introducing a wide-screen ipod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a breakthrough Internet device” (Ritchie, 2015). The audience assumed that this meant that Mr. Jobs would be launching three separate devices. However, it was only one device, the iPhone. Within the past 7 years, Apple has been able to tweak its iPhones by incorporating major redesigns. These redesigns use combinations
