The Olympic Games of Munich started like any other, the parade of nations, proud representatives filled with dreams of gold medals and strong finishes. A moment of glory and hopefully standing tall on the podium as their flag is raised. This is a time when nations come together in peace to show the power of human achievement through sport. It did not happen that way.
The world then was just as difficult as it is now when it came to Arab and Israeli relationships but this was the Olympics. The delegation from Israel were a little worried about security at the village at which the athletes were housed during games. It was noticed that many Palestinian workers were employed throughout the Olympic Village and they did not like the fact that they were housed in the bottom floor of the group apartments in which they were assigned. But eventually they relaxed, coming to the conclusion that security had to be good and they should settle down and enjoy themselves while they participated in this perhaps once in a life time event (Maslin).
On 5 September 1972 five individuals carefully scaled the six foot fence that surrounded the Olympic Village. They wore track suits and caused no suspicion because it was a badly kept secret that many of the athletes would routinely do this to escape into the city to see the sights or shop for souvenirs. With bulging sports bags they supposedly met up with three or four men who had gotten their hands on stolen keys that would allow them access to two apartments on 31 Connollystraße where the Israeli team were housed ("Munich Olympic Massacre: Background & Overview (September 5, 1972)").
Yosseff Gutfreund heard scratches at the door of the first apartment and went to see what the noise was. As he ap...

In 1931, before the Weimar Republic was seized by National Socialists, Berlin was announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be the location of the 11th Olympic Games. Since the Games origins in Athens, the Olympics have evolved to introduce the code of equality of all races and faiths for nations- all of which was controversial during the Third Reich. However, because of the aftermath of World War I, many accounts suggest that the Nazi regime used the 1936 Olympic games as a showcase of the transformation of the country. But due to many restrictions placed around committees, historians can trace that anti-Semitic ideas and beliefs were abundant during the Games. Due to much controversy, some of the restrictions were to be revoked
...en were left with nine hostages. They were, in addition to Gutfreund, sharpshooting coach Kehat Shorr, track and field coach Amitzur Shapira, fencing master Andre Spitzer, weightlifting judge Yakov Springer, wrestlers Eliezer Halfin and Mark Slavin, and weightlifters David Berger and Ze'ev Friedman. David Berger was an expatriate American with dual citizenship and Mark Slavin, the youngest of the hostages, had only arrived in Israel from the Soviet Union a few months before the Olympic Games began. Gutfreund, physically the largest of the hostages, was bound to a chair whilst the rest were lined up on the two beds in Springer and Shapira's room, and bound at the wrists and ankles and then to each other. Romano's bullet-riddled body was left at his bound teammates’ feet as a warning, to show what would happen if any of them attempted to escape as their friends had.
The controversy in Berlin Olympic Games was that the some of the Jews excluded from the Olympic team were actually world class athletes. The athletes left Germany, along with other Jewish athletes, to resume their sports careers abroad. The Nazis also disqualified Gypsies. The Olympics were intended to be an exercise in goodwill among all nations emphasizing racial equality in the area of sports competition. But the Nazis thought that only the Aryans should participate in the Olympics games to represent Germany. Then after that controversy then the committee of the Games wanted to move the Olympic Games to another country. This was because usually the U.S. got the most medals because they sent the most athletes.
Since 776 BCE, the Olympics have been a way for people of different cultures to come together and compete in friendly competition. In 1892 the first modern Olympics were held in Athens, although it had been over a thousand years since the last game it still had brought together an assortment of different religions and ethnic groups together. Many factors shaping the Olympic Games reflect the changes that have taken place in our world since the last game in 393 CE in Greece such changes include woman’s suffrage, global economy, world wars, and proving competency.

During World War II there was event that lead to deaths of millions of innocent people. This even is known as the holocaust, millions of innocent people were killed violently, there was mass murders, rapes and horrific tortures. The question I will attempt to answer in the course of this paper is if the holocaust was a unique event in history. In my opinion there were other mass murders that people committed justified by the feeling of being threatened. But I don 't believe that any were as horrific and inhumane as Germany’s genocide of the Jewish people.
The Failure of the Munich Putsch The Munich-Putsch failed in 1932 for many reasons but all together poor planning was to blame because if the planning was perfect many of the things I would list wouldn't have happened. The MunichPutsch failed for these main reasons. Hitler and Ludendorff thought that it would be an easy task to take it over. Too many people knew about the attempt to take over the putsch.

Theme: Many events of The Nazi Olympics surround this sporting festival to make it one of the controversial events in sport history. Not only does Mandell cover the 1936 Olympic Games themselves but he gives insight to the history of the modern games, participation by the United States, the role of the games in the Nazi propaganda efforts and portrays heroes and key figures. Mandell wrote about the intersection of sport and politics and how world leaders set the agenda, not the athletes. The Nazi’s used the 1936 Olympic Games as a way to reinforce their political and racial goals. Although they were founded as part of a vision of world peace, the 1936 games became a stage for political disputes. The Nazi Olympics takes an in depth look at the efforts the Germans made to show the rest of the world that they had again become a powerful nation under the leader of Adolf Hitler. The events that followed the games in Germany, mainly the Holocaust and World War II overshadowed the Berlin games. However, it is very important to note that a world gathering like the Olympics took place in a country that was in the process of eliminating an entire race of people. The games were a huge success in regards to the Nazi regime, they were able to fool the world and prove to Germany that they were a peaceful and stable nation.

The development of Committee X was just one of many counter-terrorism associations that were formed as a result of the Munich Massacre. Reasoning behind the counter-terrorism teams was not always intended as revenge, but as a scare tactic to prevent further incidents. Palestine was put on the world’s stage due to the massive amounts of media covering the events at the Olympic Games. The attack was easily executed due to the lack of security that Germany had provided for the events. Following the Munich Massacre, the Olympic Games have had a substantial increase in quality and numbers of staffed security. This increase along with the anti/counter-terrorism associations have and will hopefully continue to prevent incidents like the Munich Massacre from ever repeating.
All over Germany before the Olympic Games were signs that read Juden Unerkehrt, or “Jews not wanted.” “The racial discrimination- so obvious and deliberate- was more than some foreign sports organizations could stomach. Apart from being offensive to normal human beings, the Nazi attitude was also diametrically opposed to the principle of free competition on which the Olympics were supposed to be based” (Hart Davis 62). More than anywhere else, action against what was happening in Germany mounted more quickly in the United States, especially in New York, where there were almost 2 million Jews living (Hart Davis, 62).
Introduction: The Holocaust was an event that took place in Germany which means ‘sacrifice by fire’ in Greek; many murdered Jews were the consequences of this terrible action caused by Adolf Hitler. According to the website United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) it states that “The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators.” This terrific slaughter was a racial and discriminatory oppression for the Nazis to the minorities. The Holocaust is an important and historical event taught in schools and known by many people. The word ‘holocaust’ is associated with massive deaths based on the background of Hitler’s actions during 1939-1945.
